Blazers offer Blake to Clippers for Camby

Here is a snippet of the article:
"This time, Blake has been offered with Travis Outlaw(notes) to the Los Angeles Clippers for center Marcus Camby(notes), a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

It’s also believed that the Blazers will add cash to the bid. All three players have expiring contracts, so it would likely take an additional ingredient – cash and or a second-round draft pick – to convince the Clippers to give up Camby for this package."

While I would hate to lose Outlaw, Camby is an expiring and we could re-sign him. The snag could be the Clippers forcing us to take back Telfair or Thorton.

It's going to be a crazy trading deadline!

Even at 35, he's still 2nd in the NBA in rebounding...

Camby would be a quality addition to the team this year.  He might even be someone who would be willing to sign on with the Blazers for a couple years when his contract expires.  Camby can play both PF/C.  Yes he will be 36 next month, but I see him being able to hang around the NBA for another 3 years and be very serviceable.

I think it's great news. Sending two players we don't need for a solid short term fix inside. Assuming Camby stays healthy we are getting a great deal IMO. I'm not sold on Outlaw and with Webster back to his old self, Rudy and Batum on the bench, and Bayless emerging, we don't really need ourside players as much. West has been a weak conference so far this season, this move can help us a lot in the playoffs. Keep in mind that we are getting one of the best defenders without any future salary obligations.

It's now being reported as official, the trade will be announced today. Reports coming out that Camby is not super excited about it, but a playoff run should fix that. Luckily, it's a one year fix and he has an expiring contract anyways. Still, should really help for a big push towards the playoffs.

I am in favor of this as Camby has shown what he is able to do and does it day in and day out. Portland now gets tougher and bigger and even starts to define some of the roles on the team. We are going to miss Outlaw and his fourth QTR plays but we could always pick him back up at the end of the season. Now that we will be having a known big man in the middle it's time that the team puts it's head up and look for a better position in the playoffs.

I've said it before on this site and I'll say it again - Pritchard is an idiot and always will be no matter how many good trades he has done in the past.  To trade Outlaw after investing so much time and money and emotion in the man - like Jermaine O'Neal - is just wrong and stuipid.

We have a capable core of players and a good enough Big Man in Howard to compensate for losing Joel and Greg to injury.  Can we make a run in the Playoffs with this small lineup, yes we can, but I think not now that Pritchard has dealt us another blow in the gut.

I've said it before and I will say it again, Miller should go not Blake. Miller will never play well with BRoy. They don't like each other, they don't play well together, and we will never get anywhere with the two of them on the same team. Either trade Broy or Miller, but you will never get anywhere with both on the same team.

I think this deal will benefit the team more than hurt it.  I just hope Camby doesn't show "jet lag" because he misses LA.  Go P-Town!

I am sad to see Outlaw go - indifferent about Blake... we absolutely need a big someone in the paint so our boys can drive to the rack. Their jump shooting is unreliable and dunkin' on fools is almost out of the question. I'm excited to see what the big man will bring, even if he is throwing a tizzy. As stated above, if this gets us to the playoffs I'm sure he'll get over it.

Is everyone in here crazy? Clearly Marcus Camby will make us better, and I mean better than we were with Oden or Pryzbilla. He is clearly the best center we have now. We now have a proven defensive stopper who also guarantees us 12 boards per game. I think if we insert Bayless into the starting lineup along with Batum, Aldridge, Roy, and Camby we can compete with the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Andre Miller will be much more effective sparking the second units running attack.

I love Camby,   shot blocker, rebounder, former defensive player of the year. The Blazer defense at the rim and rebounding just improved.

Welcome to Portland Marcus Camby !!

But Kim's Blazer heart has a hole in it now without Travis.  I'm leaving this picture through my grieving process... I will miss Travis dearly :(

    How soon can Camby play???

This trade consolidates the team and clears out the SF and PG logjams and I know it is best for the team, but losing my fv player Trav hurts. I really hope we can sign him back in the summer.

Just another poor move on the Balzers part!  We just gave away to players who always have contributed for a 35 year old over his prime player and we pay money on top of it!  If Oden was worth his pay this would not have had to happen...Just disgusting!!!

Seriously....losing Travis does hurt, but this is a business. Portland sometimes seems to forget that, so I am glad good judgement prevailed. Blake is a really nice guy and a decent player, but ultimately expendable. Outlaw is harder to gauge, since he barely played this year and looked really good last year, at the end of the season. He's a free agent this summer, so it is possible we get him back.

To make a serious playoff run, we absolutely needed a true center. I love Juwan, and have so much admiration for him, but really, his age gets in the way, and might not hold up to the pressure of the playoffs. Besides, this will allow LMA to play his natural position, with the added bonus of having been a center for over a month. Additionally, our PG spot is less packed, so less contention.

Btw, whoever said Miller and Roy can't play together obviously didn't read the article about what Roy has learned about Dre's game sitting on the bench. He clearly indicated he is far more willing to play Miller's way and now has a much better understanding of what Dre is after. Now, it hasn't been tested yet, but I think they are going to be great together, much better than anything Roy has had to work with before.

It seems to me like this trade sacrifices the future for nothing more than a chance to go a little further in the playoffs this year. Camby will certainly help fill the void while Oden and Przybilla are out, but even with him I don't see the Blazers going past the second round in the playoffs. Blake and and Outlaw were part of the bigger picture and part of a team that (assuming no major injuries) could have been serious contenders for a championship next year and for the next several years to come. This was an unnecessary trade and one that will only leave the fans next year to wonder about what could have been.

Sad to lose a vital cog of the Blazer machine and the best sixth man in the league, but gained a piece we need this year in the playoffs, and a legitimate back up for Oden next year. If Camby gets injured, a horrendous bust!

Hey Kim, I am completely on board with you!  Camby has made this team better already.  Blake and Outlaw clearing out their lockers will enable younger guys on this squad to improve with very necessary playing time.  Let's go #21 when he makes his debut against KG and the Celtics!

My thinking was just the opposite..Even though the year hadn't gone well for Blake, that last game he had, pickin and poppin with L.A., was to me the reason why we keep him. Behind Joel, he was mister lunch bucket in my opinion. I've always liked Camby, and hope he can at least keep his averages where they are.

I nominate sjcla for post of the week!

I hate, hate losing Outlaw but both he and Blake were expiring contracts and there was a good chance they would be gone next year regardless. Why not get something out of them now to help us gain that much needed playoff experience with the help of a top 10 center?

We had 4 point guards on the roster and Blake was the 3rd best and had the most desirable contract up for grabs. Outlaw was part of the small forward log jam with Batum, Webs, and Dante. It just so happened he had an expiring deal, which is all anyone wants these days.

In all honesty, we probably still have 1-2 too many good players assuming our centers remain healthy next year, so another 2/3 for 1 trade will be needed.

My guess is the Clippers didn't want Miller, they wanted a TRUE point guard, which is why the Blazers should have kept Blake and never acquired Miller in the first place. Miller and Roy are SG, no wonder they don't like each other, their too much alike. The best games i've seen the Blazers play this year involved Blake at point, and Miller at two guard because Roy has been hampered with his hamstring, which by the way willl most likely not heal completely this year. Having Camby will do little good if the Blazers don't figure out how to run the offense effectively.

couple things... considering andre miller has more APG than blake throughout their careers, its tough to say blake is a better "pure point" than miller, just because miller scores more points.

also, how exactly were we gonna get brook lopez, who right now is the cornerstone of the nets franchise? I find it hard to believe that the nets would just trade him away for another expiring contract.

I might be alone on this one, but I've lost the Oden fever all together. I would have given Oden plus cash up for Canby at this point. His career has just been underwhelming—if we keep siding with 'potential' as our reason for evolving his career we might as well have kept Outlaw. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being deep in PG's either; Blake would have kept the Blazer leadership competitive and scrappy. Bite the bullet KP, your marketing-blitz of a draft pick needs to move on. Season ticket holders like myself bought in for the guys we grew to love, and Oden aint one of them.
