I know this is in the wrong part of the site, but the off topic just is not getting enough traffic that this topic needs. I have noticed for a while that the posting on here has dropped off significantly, so what changes would you like to see on the message boards to make them more user friendly?

The one I would like to see most would be to have a free-flowing type of board where all the topics are either Blazer related or off-topic so users only have 2 forums to browse through.

Anything else you guys can think of?

What would you guys think of this:

    - Consolidate individual game forums with the rest of the forums.  These are currently separate making them difficult to find.

    - Simplify navigation between different message board features like the Active Discussions Showcase and the actual message board home so navigation would be more intuitive.  Link The Site | Message Boards  to the message board home instead of the showcase.

    - Upgrade the reply editor to use the same one the blogs use. This should fix the line-break issues for Safari and FireFox and make those posts easier to read.

    - Simplify the message board skin to use a lighter-weight interface that should render faster.

    Anything to add to this?

I think a few well-placed updates will go a long way toward 'resetting' the message boards in terms of usability.

Make them like the old message boards. Honestly, it's great to upgrade to a fancier, prettier setup, but you guys totally killed the user-friendliness that the old site had. Besides just the extremely muddled navigation, the fact that it takes it's time loading and everything just makes it almost more of a headache than a joy. I still come here almost every day, but it's not extremely worth it considering there are hardly any new posts, and even if there are, there's no easy way of seeing them. I'd say, add the option on the front page to view all recent posts in chronological order. That way, some of the posts won't get lost in the shuffle simply due to not being popular or having responses. Also, make it easier to post new topics. That little sidebar is a pain, I'd rather have a page similar to posting a reply, so at least my paragraphs would work properly. And do away with the intro page (showing the fan statements and all), just take us directly to the message boards. That's what people come here for, you know?

In all honesty though guys, just turn back the clock, make the forums similar to the old ones in terms of functionality, and you'll be set. We don't come here to conduct rocket science, just to talk Blazers, and so the site really doesn't need to be anything fancy at all.

Hey, didn't you guys have a thread when this site was first unveiled where people gave suggestions? Seems like you'll get more info there than out of the 7 people who actually still use this thing, lol.  :P

What specifically did you like about the old forums? The navigation? The usability? The layout?

If the old message boards were easier to use, how were they easier to use? Did you simply find the buttons you were looking for more quickly? Were the posts themselves easier to read?

My personal suggestions include having a "quote" button like VBulletin, where if you hit that button, it places the respective post inside a blockquote so that other users know which post you are replying to. An addendum to that idea would be a multi-post quote feature that makes it easier to quote multiple posts.

The other idea that might increase replies is a "quick reply" box at the bottom of each thread that lets users post using a simplified WYSIWYG.

A little late to ask that question damir. I mean, how long have we been on these new forums now? It's a bit hard to remember exactly what made the old forums great, because it wasn't until the new ones were unveiled that the quality of the old site really stood out by contrast and at that point it was too late to go back. I don't remember much about how the old forums worked because I never felt the need to analyze/dissect them, all I remember is that they were more enjoyable to use, and it doesn't seem as though I'm alone in that opinion. What was the purpose of changing away from them in the first place anyways?

Hey KingKoopa, thanks for the feedback. I think Damir is just trying to capture what the spirit was on the old boards to get that mojo back. Totally understand if you don't remember.

We completely overhauled the site and took it in house. Our vendor wasn't fixing problems that the old site had and we added a lot more features. The main part that has suffered with the new additions was the messageboards, so we need to resurrect them and get them rolling again. We've gotten really good feedback about the new features, but obviously, messageboards need to be a lot better.

I was thinking instead of having all these sub-categories, just having one area, Blazers. That's some of the feedback that we've gotten here. Whether you're posting about the 2009-10 team or about Blaze's Dunks, they would all go into one area. I get the feeling people want it all in one place.

Also, posting new topics needs work with line breaks and bolding, underline, etc.

Promoting the most recent topics and most popular topics on the homepage of iamatrailblazersfan.com and on trailblazers.com is another feature I think we need to look at.

Once again, thanks for the patience. We did make some changes from the way they were first launched, but we'll keep working on them.

    Dan.

Blazers keep losing games to the Knicks and Bucks, folks around here won't want to talk about the Blazers much anyway.

You''re right. They should dump Monta though. I was thinking maybe the Rockets could use the number 1 pick to get the lakers to do a sign and trade for D12.

Batum is a great fit for their system and is young. Plus a lottery pick and potentially 2 other first rounders would give them a ton of flexibility.
