This is the trade that needs to happen: Robin Lopez to ATL, Josh Smith to Houston, Omer Asik to Portland. Boom a three way. I think Josh is a free agent but if he agrees to go to houston then I think the deal would go down.

Atlanta would never do this. Hawks take would not take Lopez over Asik in a trade, unless we added something better. Houston would probably give Atlanta Asik and Lin, which we cannot compete with.

Let them have Asik, you'll see that Lopez is every bit as good as he is. Plus Asik has a huge 3rd year in his contract, $15m. Is he really worth that?

Agree with Wscott, I'd rather keep Lopez than chase after Asik. Omer is a little more proficient than Robin on Defense (which NEEDS to be our C's priority, not offense), but he comes with a significantly higher pricetag... plus, Houston has now stated they're not letting Asik go to anyone, whether he wants out or not.

    But that's besides the point.

If we stay focused on what they bring, Asik's primary advantage is rebounding. Lopez has been criticized for not cleaning the glass enough for a Center, but there's also the argument that this is due to the fact he plays REAL defense; Lopez boxes out like Asik never will, and isn't as worried about grabbing the ball himself. As we saw last year with Hickson, he grabbed every board that came near him, but his overall defense was disgusting. Since rebounding is kind of a team job anyway, I'll take the shotblocker over the rebounder all day.

On top of that, Lopez is much better than Asik on the pick and roll, which will be a huge weapon when he's on the floor with either Aldridge or Dame.

Lopez is a better fit for the Blazers than Asik. Especially for the price.

Asik cap figure is 8.3 million for the next two seasons. When you factor in Lopez's 15% trade kicker there contracts are around 1.5 million apart for the next two seasons.

247 I like you but if you are suggesting that Lopez is a better defender than Asik then you're being a moron.

Yes Lopez is a better offensive weapon but his defense is way below Asik level and his rebounding is far below his level as well. Furthermore, considering Asik has missed virtually no time from injuries in his 3 years in the league and Lopez has had significant injuries for most of his career, Asik is more dependable.

Atlanta is not going to make that trade that much is obvious though.

with Josh off to Detroit the best way to get Asik is to trade Lopez for Ryan Anderson and then Ryan Anderson for Asik.  This would be difficult since Ryan Anderson is being offered straight up for Asik.  It does not appear like we have the assets to get Asik.

    Two problems, Cmeese:

First things first... The next time you call someone names, I'm just going to delete your posts.

That goes for EVERYONE: Learn to have civil disagreements and debate based on the points of the argument, not with trashtalking and namecalling. Don't worry, I'm not getting defensive because you offended me big time or anything, but I am feeling like being a little hyper-vigilant on people's vocabulary, because this forum has had too many problems with arguments getting personal and out of hand.

I want to encourage more Blazer fans to post on these forums, and that won't happen if you and others are going to attack them for not sharing your opinion. This is especially funny to me right now, since I already responded on another post where you and Fanatic were starting to get at each other (AGAIN), but in that post, you were the one being criticized and attacked. I defended you there, but you've already turned around and repeated the same problem. I'm not having it anymore, one way or the other.

Bottom line: EVERYONE needs to remove "moron" and all other name-calling from their posts, or I'll just remove your posts. Thanks.

    Second thing:

I'm pretty sure I never said Lopez is a better defender. In fact, the very first line of my post said Asik is a better defender. So thanks for taking that out of context... Did you bother reading the rest of my post where I tried to look past the numbers and more at the behavior, comparing Lopez's shortcomings with what he does right, and comparing that to the problems we had with JJ last year? Cuz if you did, I feel like part of your post would have been redundant and unnecessary.

On the other hand, you're right on the mark about the difference between Asik and Lopez's injury histories. That could be a warning sign, but considering Lopez's age and how different this last season was for him, I'm not ready to write him off as undependable yet.

ALSO also, Cmeese: I like you too!

In fact I LOVE YOU ALL. Seriously, I've missed these forums recently. I've been working in a lot of different places since the season ended (right now it's in BC) so I haven't been able to log in here as much, but I've got to admit, it's also partly because of the turn these forums were taking. It's just not fun to chat about basketball when everyone else's chat is just hating on each other, and it was getting to be WAY too much. I'm glad to see people returning though, and with them comes the return of better discussions.

We are all here for the same reason; we love the Blazers. In that sense, you are all my brothers and sisters. I don't know how many of you have true siblings, but I have 4 and we disagree all the time, all through our lives on all sorts of matters, big and small. That being said, the times that our disagreements turn sour and petty, are the times that we feel the worst about later. I get enough of that from them though, don't need it here with my Blazer family too.

I never called you a name just said if you were suggesting Lopez was better defender than Asik you were being a moron since you weren't it does not apply. You did say Asik was better defensively but I was thrown off by your real defense comment. That certainly seemed like Asik was acting like JJ and just filling the stat sheet without playing any real defense. I know you know better than that.

    Wolves:

The other problem with that trade proposal is I'm pretty sure the Wolves aren't trying to rebuild right now, they want to win like yesterday lol. Maybe if the picks are for next year, so they'd be able to rebuild quick, but I have a feeling that if they let any of their top players go, Kevin Love moves on.

Not to mention that the front office in Minnesota would probably burn this trade proposal on arrival, just because it would help the Blazers. They hate us, and they've been somewhat spiteful before!

Oh, so you're saying you SHOULD apologize? Cuz you still haven't, and that's all I've been waiting for to put this all behind us.

Like I said, just because I refuted your statement as to why you called me a moron does NOT mean that you didn't say it. What you are suggesting, that since you realized you were wrong to assert yourself that way means you didn't say it in the first place, would be comparable to taking a swing at someone you thought called you a name, only to find out they weren't talking to you and you respond by saying "well, i didn't hit you then".

That's ridiculous, Cmeese, and you know it. Stop dodging, be a man, and take responsibility for what you said. All you have to do is say "my bad dude, won't happen again", and it'll be gone.  But trying to pretend you DIDN'T say it or that it's negated because you were wrong is absurd, especially when we have it literally in writing that you did, indeed, call me a moron.

Grow up, admit you were wrong and apologize for your statement, and then we move on :)

I just hope you don't actually think that using qualifiers like "if/then" statements is a way for you to avoid the consequences of your words. Own your actions, for better or worse, and lets shake hands and move on. It's not like this is THAT big of a deal, lots of people get a little out of hand on forums (the downside of internet anonymity), but that doesn't need to be something we can't smile about later. Just gotta hear you own it first.

The ability to disagree without becoming disagreeable is a lost art. Ive sat next to Lakers fans that i flat out wanted to decapitate, but i stayed adult like in my responses, and when that didnt work,i put a kabosh to any and all banter by simply keeping it moving. If i see a post i dont likeor agree with, i keep it pushing. Contrary to what anyone has heard, its still fashionable to be intelligent. Let that marinate.

B247 is there anything sweeter than the quiet of an opposing fan in OUR house talking yang. I posted a video of Wesley hitting two dagger threes against Miami. Good lawwwd what a game. Even sweeter that they were the returning champs. As lackluster ,{ and im being kind} as our bench was, we were in alot of games against squads who had a bench. We had so many comebacks it was becoming commonplace to expect them to do it every night. JJ will be missed, but even without him we've got some never say die guys on our squad and Wesley matthews always seems to spearhead those efforts.

LexGrasser7 that's terrible. We have a starting line up that can hang with the best of them. Why trade them all away? I feel like our team already will be solid next season. We were in the playoff race until the end of the season when no one (including me) expected us to be. All we lacked was contribution from the bench. Olshey has provided us with some great pieces off the bench. That's just how I feel.

Not exactly; Asik's final year balloon payment of ~$15 million is still owed to him by the team who employs him, despite only $8.3 million of that amount applying to the team's salary cap, if I heard and understood the terms of his deal correctly. (you may correct me if I'm wrong, please).  That's a steep price (too steep, IMO) regardless of whether it shows in the cap space or not.  THAT makes him MUCH more expensive than Lopez.

I just don't see how trading away our core (other than Lillard) does anything more than gamble on SLIGHT improvement.

Butler, Deng, Horford and Asik are all great players, but Butler is the only one younger than Aldridge, and LMA's age has been one of the big criticisms as to why we'd trade him: if we move LMA, then it's about keeping our core YOUNG so they can stay together for the future. Horford is good but past prime, if it was straightup him vs Aldridge I keep Aldridge all day. Same with Deng, he's good but unless we plan on winning it all in the next season or so, he'll be gone or worth less. Butler is a great young player that would fit well here I think, but he's more of a natural SF than SG, so balance could now become an issue. Aaaaand we've all had plenty of the Asik debate on other posts recently, so not goin there.

Bottom line, this move is lateral. The idea that it would significantly improve the Blazers is a gamble, and at the same time it would shorten our window of keeping our core together.

I'll keep my Blazers as is.

Alright how about we send lamarcus to chicago for deng and butler. Then Chicago sends boozer to houston and houston sends us asik. Then we trade batum and leonard to atlanta and maybe thow in a pick for horford.

    Line up:

    Lillard, McCollum

    Butler, Matthews, Crabbe

    Deng, Barton

    Horford, Robinson

    Asik, Lopez

    How is that different?

Lateral moves are not worth the time. Cmon man if you're gonna say "how about this" why not actually change things a bit? All you did was trade Wright and keep Mathews, so yes it's slightly more balanced BUT Horford and Deng are still as old as LaMarcus, which as I said has been the biggest motivation for the "trade LMA" talks. And again, they're all good players, but this certainly does not make us significantly better.

It's giving up our core and their chemistry for a gamble to get, at best, SLIGHTLY better players, but for a shorter time period due to their age and contracts.

    No deal!

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
