DeAndre Jordan was a joke in the playoffs so hopefully that ends all the trade for him nonsense that was going around. Nikola Pekovic is a restricted free agent so do we really want to overpay for him so the Wolves won't match? So who does that leave Al Jefferson, he is probably too expensive to sign with 11 million in cap space. Samuel Dalembert is 32 and coming off his worse season since 2008-2009 not a great way to spend 5 million. Face it when giving Oden another try starts to sounds like a great plan then you know the odds of getting a good defensive center are very slim.

However, I believe this team can acquire an elite center without sacrificing too much. Here is how:

Step one: Buy a draft pick, we have 3 million to offer a year in cash incentives via trade Portland should be able to buy a late first or multiple seconds with the money.

Step two: Trade Joel Freeland for a Euro stash player or a second round pick.

Step three: Trade remaining second round picks to move into first round. Should cost around three 2nd's to move up.

By now Portland should have 2 additional first round picks likely #25 or later. It is time to go after our center.

Portland trades Nicolas Batum and multiple first round picks to Milwaukee

Milwaukee trades Drew Gooden and Larry Sanders to Portland

    Thoughts behind the trade-

Portland needs a elite defensive center more than anything at this point. The odds of getting one via free agency is virtually non existent so trade becomes the only option. Batum is young and full of potential but SF in this league are a dime a dozen. Also the Blazers have enough young players at the moment that trading away draft picks is not a bad idea, especially in what looks like an average draft at best.

Milwaukee with Jennings, Ellis potentially and Reddick becoming free agents the Bucks could be in a major transition period. Getting Batum would be an upgrade over Reddick and while his price is high he still has potential and time to grow. Furthermore, absorbing some of the price becomes easier when Portland eats the near 14 million still owed to Gooden over the next 2 seasons. Add in the extra draft picks and the Bucks can restock.

Portland could either trade pick #10 and both late first rounders to the Bucks for their pick #15 or more likely would offer #10 and one of the later first round picks.

Now with an elite center and PF our starting front court is set. The next step is to replace Batum and shore up our bench. Portland would gain around 4.5 million in cap room from these moves putting our number around 16 million.

Tyreke Evans would be my first target with an offer of around 4 years 44 million, with the first year being 10 million. He is the best when he attacks the rim and is a good passer and rebounder. Evans can play PG, SG and SF but I think it is time to decide on a position for him. I do not know if he would accept being a bench player or not but on paper he would be a perfect 6th man.

Tony Allen would be my second target getting him away from the Grizzlies will not be easy especially given their success this year and if they win a title consider it impossible but for now I believe a 3 year offer of 6 million per season would be enough to sign him since it is more than he can make signing a MLE. Obviously his defense and leadership would be a huge boost to this team. Furthermore, he more than makes up for the loss of Batum's defense.

Matt Barnes he played real well this year and has always played really hard. Portland could use either their room exception around 2.5 million or the trade exception they gain from Freeland to get him to the Rose City.

If Portland could work out a sign and trade for Barnes then they could use their room exception to resign Maynor otherwise they could go after someone like CJ Watson.

Portland could then offer the veterans minimum to Greg Oden or Jermaine O'Neal.

    2013/2014 Blazers

    PG Lillard

    PG Maynor

    SG Matthews

    SG Allen

    SG Barton

    SF Evans

    SF Barnes

    SF Claver

    PF Aldridge

    PF Gooden

    C Sanders

    C O'neal/ Oden

    C Leonard

That roster is certainly a playoff team next year, what are your thoughts?

Tony Allen wouldn't leave Memphis after making it to the Conference Finals. Milwaukee wouldn't trade away one of their best players, their best interior defender, for a couple picks in a weak draft with no real interior defenders. Dieng is okay, but Sanders is obviously better.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

i like that trade. if we have 16 million like you said. i rather sign parson to 5 years and 10 million per year. sign allen to 4 years and 5 million. sign patrick mills, o'neal, maynor and alan anderson all to vet min. draft shabazz, trade all 2nd round pick for thunder 12th pick. draft dieng. waive freeland

    lillard/maynor/mills

    allen/wesley/shabazz

    parson/anderson/barton

    aldridge/dieng/gooden

    sanders/leonard/o'neal

once leonard get hid defensive game going, we can trade sanders to team have a good back up center and have a high draft pick. with this team. we should be able to make it to playoff in no time

I am a fan of Damian Lilard leading us to a title and MVP to him, LA and MEYERS

parsons will stay in houston... and i guess you wouldnt be able to get all those just for vet mins...

I think there are easier and more realistic ways to improve our team.

I would trade our 10th pick + 2nd rounders + rights to Papapikolaou for J. Mcgee.

Then Sign Jeremy Pargo, Marco Belinelli with cap space left. And with the room exception sign Ronnie Brewer and Jermaine O´Neal.

    PG: LIllard / Pargo

SG: Mathews / Belinelli / Barton

    SF: Batum/ Brewer / Claver

    PF: Aldridge / O´Neal / Freeland

    C: Mcgee / Leonard

People always forget, why would these guys leave playoff teams to come to PDX? Tony Allen will resign with his western conference semi finalists, Parsons is on of the youngest teams that can actually become a powerhouse, and Belinelli is with the Bulls, and for some reason they seem to think he is a god in the clutch.

Rip the Larry Sanders trade would happen on draft day so people would already know we fixed out biggest weakness. Then once free agency begins its up to LA, Lillard, Stotts, Olshey and Paul Allen to lure people here. It becomes a lot easier to convince Tyreke Evans to come when he can clearly see an opportunity to start. With Batum gone that opportunity is there. Also paying Tony Allen 6 million, which is more than he can make by any Mid Level Exception offer, will give us a chance to sign him. Will he choose us over Memphis that is hard to say but adding Sanders and Evans to the core while offering him a nice contract will help. Barnes made the veteran minimum last year and he outplayed that but the Clippers will be well over the cap if they resign CP3 so Portlands 3 million offer should be enough. Maynor will get some interest but unless a team is willing to make him a starter then I can easily see him coming back for 2.5 million. Add O'Neal or Oden would be fairly easy at that point. You can clearly see this team would be deep and a viable contender in the West, furthermore, with Sanders and Leonard ahead of them, getting 15 minutes a night would allow Jermaine to stay healthy or allow Greg to ease back into the game.

However, if things do not work out this way it is not a big deal because it is a lot easier to find a SF than it is to find an elite center and much cheaper too.

That is a monster team but Evans would be playing out of position. Hes best at SG

Im not sure that Milwaukee does that trade. Batum didnt look that good at the end of last season so his stock probably down, Bucks have Ilyasova who is similar to Batum. Not sure getting Gooden of the books, Batum and some picks does it for them.

Milwaukee would seriously look at it though.

Lillard, Wes, Evans, LA, Sanders would be a Great Core

We would  not be settling for mediocricy if this plan went thtough

Barnes would not fit in Portland. His attitude is completely wrong. Sanders has anger problems, but is not an bad guy. Barnes is dirty. Tony Allen already has an excellent core in Memphis. Z-Bo, Gasol, and Conley. He has finally found a team which plays his style of basketball. I love the guy, I really do, but he will not come to Portland if he has a chance to stay with Memphis. If for some unknown reason Memphis doesn't want him back, MAYBE, MAYBE, he will because he has a history with Paul Allen. And what was the Sanders trade again?

See I think Tyreke plays best at pg, thats what he primarily played his rookie year and that was his best year to date. I do not think I want him here, just because we're already paying Nic for his potential that he can be even better, I just don't know if I want another similar situation.

I hate Matt Barnes with a passion. Tony Allen stays in Memphis. He left a championship team in Boston to play there, he obviously loves the city/team. He doesnt like being overshadowed apparently. We need to get him out our plans. Restricted FAs too, they always match (LOL) Only way we can improve GREATLY is by Draft or Trade.

Agree with you 200% Siccolo. He fouled Rubio on that potential game winner, no call. He just fell when he hurt his knee, they call a foul on his defender. He has been helped by the refs so often, and if anyone says he wasn't, I got a boatload of video for you to see.

You know why ripcity cause he fing earned those extra calls the same way MJ did and the same way Lebron has. I mean just watch Lebron play he commits around 5 or more offensive fouls per game just lowering his head running over defenders but never gets a charge call and gets at least half of those plays called as and ones.

I'm not talking about those kinda calls, but phantom calls. Kobe gets soooo many phantom calls. I like Lebron, but I know because he's a superstar he gets certain actions overlooked. Kobe just gets random stuff called. Remember when Kobe smacked Damian right across the head, no call.

Claver will make a great squad player when he develops his outside shot. His size is an asset because he can guard SF and stretch 4s. If he can be a better rebounder and add a post move to his game we could be looking at a possible answer to our front court 6th man. I think if we get Tyreke Evans and move Wes to the bench we would have a dependable 8 man rotation and guys like Barton, Kostas and Jermaine Oneal will make up the other minutes.

Lillard and Maynor are a good tandem, but Evans will make a great backcourt partner for Lillard because he can rebound and handles the ball. Evan will also give us another attacker and can get to the free throw line late in games. His strength will be a great weapon opposition defenders.

I think this would be a really good deal for Bucks then. They can draft Dieng with the 10 and maybe Franklin with their pick.

Jennins, Franklin, Batum, Henson, Dieng would be a pretty good core for them. They might really like Sanders though.

I think that Meyers will be more versatile, you know can do a little of everything, but Henson will just dominate at his game.

LOL, Yeah I liked Henson coming in to the draft. I would take Henson over Leonard any day of the week. Leonard is athletic but shoots too much for my liking. I would take Henson's offensive skill set over Meyers (Skill set I would want my big man to have) Henson will be a force in the league and POTENTIALLY be better then Larry Sanders. I dont want to be to down on Leonard but I just dont see it in him tbh man.

I apologize, for some reason I thought you were a homer and would tear me up for saying Henson > Leonard.

Thing is, Henson does not intimidate people. He's probably the nicest looking shot blocker I have ever seen. Google him, literally every picture is of him smiling. He looks so decent.

Sanders was my pick for a spot on the all defensive teams because he had a great year in terms of Shot blocking and defensive rebounding. And he was in the conversation for most improved at one stage. He is still undersized. He would be a defensive version of JJ Hickson. And other than the fact that the Bucks won't let him go, I don't see sanders forcing LA to make that switch to the 5 so that he can play PF ( his more natural position). We need size!!!!!

Pekovic would be great. But I think we should go for Spencer Hawes. He's 7'1 and can shoot the ball from 16 feet. He is also better defender than Hickson and I feel was really undervalued this season. He is a good passing big man and will provide a better presence in the middle on both ends of the floor. And if we trade down, we could get Philly's pick and Hawes.

    I am a fan of shouting Batuuuuuum-Shaka-Laka whenever Nic hits a 3!!!!!

Sanders is 6'11" Cailin he is about 5 pounds lighter than LA so his size should not be an issue.

I am a fan of Getting Defensive Players This Summer.

Sanders is the exact player Portland needs. http://www.sloansportsconference.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/The%20Dwight%20Effect%20A%20New%20Ensemble%20of%20Interior%20Defense%20Analytics%20for%20the%20NBA.pdf

That shows just how good he was last year.

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
