The Trail Blazers have announced that Damian Lillard will represent the team at the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery, which will be held less than two weeks from now on May 21st. While Portland has just a 1.1% chance at landing the top pick, there has been a good precedent set for the Trail Blazers in the past in terms of sending Rookie of the Year winners to be the face of the franchise. We all remember Brandon Roy being selected to be that face back in the summer of 2006 and he came back to the Rose City with the No. 1 pick in hand. Will history repeat itself in 11 days? Only time will tell, but who can forget that wonderful May afternoon, seven years ago?

Crazy things happen in the NBA

Orlando was the last team with the worst record to keep the #1 pick, that might repeat it self.

Last time Blazers sent a ROY to the lottery we won it, that might repeat it self.

Maybe Stern wants to give Portland another stud to pair with our new star Damian Lillard! But he wouldnt want us to have 2 ROYS in a row...

Cant wait to be in the Rose Garden for the Draft. I remember dancing behind Mike and Mike when we selected Damian!!

I am a stout atheist, but if we do, I will pray to god that we don't select Nerlens Noel. As I have said, Greg Oden waiting to happen. I never liked athletic big men, and he already has a history of injury.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

if we get no.1 or no.2 pick, we can trade down for more picks or we can trade that no.1 or no.2 pick with hickson and 1 million cash for any big man in the league, maybe mcgee, or asik or even vuevic

Lol. RC14, your pic is of JJ, an athletic big man.

Anyway, I don't have my hopes up. We're likely to fall 10th, and so my predictions don't put us lower than 8 or 9. And I hope something good comes out of this draft since the players coming into it aren't much to talk about.

Great to see Damian representing the team in any capacity, though. The more his face is out there, the more people and other players start thinking, "hmmm. Portland, huh?" Blake Griffin's presence in LA helped get an elite PG who could throw him lobs. Maybe Damian's presence can get us a center that will catch his lobs.

Why would you trade a 1st pick in a package for a big, particuarly asik or mcgee? You could just go after a center during free agency for a cheaper cost, cause dh12 and aljeff are the only ones worth over 10mill. I agree with not picking noel, but why not draft ben mclemore? We need a sg, damian and mclemore would give us a lethal backcourt. They are both athletic and can shoot. Apparently, ben mclemore has the potential to be like a ray allen player (according to nbadraft.net).  Mclemore and damian would give Us a great backcourt for years (if he pans out). Matthews could then slide to our 6th man, which is what we paid him to do im the first place. Then sign oneal for 1.2-1.5 mill. A bench with oneal, matthews, claver, barton, freeland, leonard, maynor would be enough to contend in my opinion. I think well have like around 10 mill left, if we could get aljeff to sign for 4 yrs, 40mill, then id say go for it. A Staring lineup of lillard, mclemore, batum, LA, jefferson, and bench of matthews, oneal, claver, barton, freeland, maynor, and leonard would be a playoff team for sure. Maybe a 4th or 5th seed.

With all the draft buzz that's coming up, I think you'll see us trade the pick for a legit center. We may draft for another team to get that center which is the same as a trade. Olshey hinted at that before he went to Europe to talk to a couple players. We may pick up a project in the 2nd round like we did with Barton but that top 10 pick is going to move elsewhere. The first thing we'll do in this offseason is lock down the post position and it won't be a rookie. After that we'll look for bench help, particularly a scoring 6 man and defensive combo guard. You're right about one thing, Damian's face is all over the media now and he's a big draw for free agents combined with LaMarcus and Stotts system guys will want to play here more than before. I'm impressed with how Damian handles the media. Just like he is on the court, with a microphone,, he's poised.

Agreed, river. Two lottery picks in the quality of last year's draft? You make the picks. One lottery pick in the quality of THIS year's draft? Olshey will have to get creative.

I wish someone would give us their center for our number 10th pick. If we cant draft Dieng

No way Mclemore falls to 10 unless he flunks workouts/combines and injures him self lol

Lets go over the cap and get exactly who we want. Get the best 2 guard available and the best big man option within reason.

Yeah, but JJ is 6"9. SF height. He is actually a stretch 4, who plays stretch centre. I meant like Dwight Howard or McGee, or DeAndre Jordan.

I'm glad we get a draft pick. The Raptors don't get a 1st round pick this year because they used in the wishy-washy trade for PG Kyle Lowry.

I'm sure the Blazers will select good players. We're not going to be able to win every game with our new crop of rookies, but if we can find:

    - a dunker/slasher
    - a shot blocker
    - a 1 on 1 player
    - a physically strong post player

These are probably the Blazers most glaring overall weaknesses, where I think a youngster could easily jump in and give the Blazers quality minutes doing one of the above mentioned skills.

Sorry, not Varejao, just saw something that put him as one of the worst interior defenders along with David Lee.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
