ESPN.com's NBA Draft guru Chad Ford has released the second version of his 2013 Mock Draft. And with the 10th pick, Ford has the Portland Trail Blazers selecting ...
    Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
    COLLEGE: Georgia
    AGE: 20
    HT: 6-5
    WT: 190
    POS: SG

Analysis: Right now, Caldwell-Pope is one of the fastest risers on NBA draft boards. He is a terrific shooter and a very good athlete. While the Blazers already have Wesley Matthews, adding Caldwell-Pope to the mix gives Portland great depth in the backcourt.

This kid has a beautiful shot. He's got an arc on it like Curry. Thanks for the link DHawes! Could you repost the thread you put up a while back on free agents and their salaries?

He forgot to highlight his lazy man defense and his love for gambling in the passing lanes. Also failed to mention that he has terrible shot selection for a good shooter, which shows in his low Shooting %. He has very little willingness or ability to take the ball to the rim off the dribble.

He can rebound which is a plus but like Matthews is a poor passer. He is essentially Matthews minus the good defense and with better rebounding.

If this is the selection we make I am worried for this team.

His FG and 3-PT shooting are very similar to that of Klay Thompson coming out of Washington State, so I wouldn't say his percentages are low. He basically was Georgia basketball last season. Also, I don't see any Matthews in his game.

He is a spot up shooter who has very little handles and does not pass well. Those are the epitome of Matthews offensive game.

Ford has Pope ranked 14 on his draft list but he has Portland using the 10 pick to take him.   Not sure if that is a sign of respect for the player or disrespect for Portland.

I see no second coming of Maurice Lucas who the Blazers really need now or even a good imitation of him at PF.   There are several centers of good size:  6' 11" to 7' 1" several of whom would help the Blazer thin bench.   I am intrigued with Kelly Olynyk who moves well, has a good shot with range and does block some shots.   Not sure if Zeller or Len will be available to the Blazers if we do pick #10.

  1. Posted 05/11/2013 8:46 PM

Well the reason he has Pope going to the Blazers, is the fact that we desperately need someone to come off the bench that can shoot the ball, and Pope can do that. I would rather grab Mccollum, think he can be our sixth man of the future and sign a shooter like Reddick or Korver. Also I do not agree about Olynk, I believe he has bust written all over him, doesn't seem like he can compete with the physicality and athleticism of this league.

    blazers have interviewed:

Jamaal Franklin (5/15) 6-5 185 SG/SF San Diego St. Jr., projected 2nd round, the whole meeting consisted of a psychological test taken on a computer

Michael Carter-Williams, (5/15) 6-6 190 PG Syracuse So., asked by the Blazers if he would be willing to come off the bench. Doesn't have a problem, has played SG in HS, but prefers the PG position.

Mike Muscala,6-11 245 PF/C Bucknell Sr., is scheduled to work-out for the Blazers in the coming weeks,

Shabazz Muhammad (5/15) 6-6 225 SF UCLA Fr., is participating in the Combine. Also, will play SG in the NBV.

James Southerland 6-7 215 SF/PF Syracuse Sr., will interview with the Blazers on 5/16.

I think we could get a good backcourt combo in MCW and Lillard. Both can handle the ball and have the size to guard their matchups on the defensive end. I think if MCW can be a reliable mid range shooter and a dependable free throw shooter (provided he gets there more than Wes) we could have a dangerous line-up.

Muhammad is impressive, but with his slightly checkered history I am quite skeptical. He isn't s great shooter and we need that from our SG. But his rebounding and energy will put him slightly ahead of MCW in terms of what we need right now.

mcw can't do much more then shoot the ball he will be the next nolan smith we need someone who can drive the lane we have enough shooters on this team and he won't have an immidiate impact like everyone predicted a couple months ago I think even 2 pg back court with michael carter williams would be better then mcw

Thanks Ricky.  I'll be watching @ 10.  Haven't seen enough right hand from Shazamm.  Without the ability to take his defender either way off the bounce, let alone finish at the cup with either hand?  Second rounder at best.

Earlier in the combine prodcast they showed Shazamm's shooting from the 3 pt distance.  He was 50% from the corners and 20% from the other three directions out front.  Reminds me a lot of Steve Blake's shooting touch.  When driving he seemed to be always going one way.

if we still get 10th pick. i would look at mccollum, shabazz, pope, dieng, gobert, and franklin. the best choice would be shabazz or franklin. shabazz would be a deadly 3 pointer when team are not covering him. franklin would be nice but i never research on him, but i heard that he is really good. in the 2nd round we should draft seth curry, allen crabbe if he falls to us and ryan kelly. i like curry best because he can be like his brother but at SG positions. with this kind of draft, we can become a western conference power house in a few years

The list of possibles assumes Oladipo does not fall below the top nine.  I agree that if he did the list would change and most responses would indicate him as the choice.

Here's my best Mock Draft scenario for the Blazers:

Trade every pick we can to get a starting defensive Center.

We have enough young guys, we need to win now with LA reaching his peak very soon. No more of this youth movement stuff. I'm not watching us turn into the current Cavs

thats cool and all but who do we get I see 2 centers that could be on the move for d12 one being a huge overpriced disappointment and thats chris kaman and the other being a nice upgrade in omer asik but niether would take us to the next level when we don't have a bench
