We need elite defenders so lets brainstorm who to get and how.

#1 Larry Sanders- He is a great shot blocker, and when he is in the paint less shots are attempted at the rim (Dwight Howard effect. He pulled down nearly 10 boards per game and he will only get better. Grab him before he becomes an all-star.

#2 Tony Allen- Veteran leader and best perimeter defender in the NBA.

#3 Jimmy Butler- Young elite athlete who is not afraid to chase, Kobe, Durant or Lebron around the court all night. His offense will get continue to get better watch out for a Paul George like rise next season

#4 Taj Gibson- He is a great post defender, who can rebound and also has a solid offensive game. If Chicago was not paying Boozer 16 million Gibson would be starting right now.

#5 Luc Mbah a Moute- Elite defender can guard sf and pf equally. He is not being utilized much in Milwaukee so its time to free him.

#6 Eric Bledsoe- the kid is aggressive fast and will be a star once CP3 resigns Bledsoe will become available.

#7 Andre Iguodala- He is considering opting out for one more long term contract. He can guard 3 positions and is in the debate with Allen as best perimeter defender.

#8 Victor Oladipo- There is virtually no way he drops to #10 in the draft with Smart and others opting to stay in school but could we move up and get him?

#9 Nene- don't look now but the Wizards had a pretty dominant defense last year and Nene was by far the teams best defender.

#10 Nick Collison- he represents the Thunder as their hatchet man and Portland certainly needs someone like that.

Defense wins titles enough said it is time Rose City stepped up in this department.

Bledsoe will be a star...but not here. Why would he stop being cp3s backup to come here and backup damian? Hes going to a team where he can start. Bucks most likely will not trade sanders till 2014-15 unless they get an offer they cant refuse, same with the bulls and butler. They are both still on their rookie contracts and theyre still improving. Igoudala will want close to 10 mill, which means he or batum needs to be a backup. No point in paying 2 sfs 10 mill each if one is going to be a backup. Taj gibson is on contract, which means we would have to trade for him, plus he is making 9-10 mill a year for like 3 more years, too much for a backup pf since we already have LA. Okafor will want 10mill since he made like 11-13 mill this year. Nene is still under contract, and making over 10 mill next year.

The only guys i can see us getting from that list are tony allen, mbah a moute, and nick collison. But mbah a moute and nick collison are under contract, so wed need to trade for them.

All the bigs youve listed except nick collison are making close to 10 mill a year...we only have 13-15mill to spend. Why not try signing samuel dalambert, who is a good defender, for alot cheaper (6 mill a year) as a starting center, and sign jermaine oneal to backup LA to a 3 yr 5 million dollar contract (1.66 mill a year), who is also a good defender. I agree to signing allen to maybe a 4 year 16 million dollar contract (4 mill a year). That is 11.66 million, with 3.33 left to resign Maynor.

With matthews, dalambert, oneal, allen, LA, and batum, we will have 6 guys who play above average to good defense. And lillard will work with payton over the summer, so expect his defense to be better. Dalambert also might be able to teach leonard some defense. I think our defense will be fine next year if we get these players.

Why do you guys pick big named people? Why not build cheaply for people underrated. Look at Cole Aldrich he is MORE than capable of being our starting C next year and he would come cheap to get a bench. Also look at a Hamed Haddaddi? He filled in nicely this year in PHX when he got forced into it! And he has a cheap contract to trade for.

    D. Jordan was horrible in the playoffs. I watched him and from what I saw, Joel Freeland puts up better numbers. He can't buy a freethrow, got 3-6 pts a game and about 4 rebounds. Why would we want Jordan? Clips wouldn't play him in the 4th qtr because he shoots 40% from the stripe. We need a double double center who's a force in the paint.

@ RipCity 14, u r right he's not a great defender but he's decent; the best thing about him is that he blocks shots :)  Again u r right about him w/ no outside game BUT... he doesn't need 1 ;)  I'd like McGee to b w/ our squad to split 1/2 time @ the 5 w/ Meyers; McGee can b our starter that actually blocks shots/play some D for ~ 1/2 the game & then Meyers can come in off the bench until he is ready to take on more minutes.  I STILL believe Meyers will become our 5 of the future BUT if somehow that doesn't happen... we could trade Meyers & whatever else it takes to get the center that we need to compliment McGee OR... we could do a 2-3 deal to trade both of them + whateva for the 1 center that we're after :)  Getting McGee gives us flexibility (ties up some of our $ but if we REALLY wanted to get into a more liquid position, Olshey's crafty enough to figure something out ;) in a variety of ways; also... what IF McGee starts to reach his potential while playing w/ us?  I think McGee is a gamble worth taking; the payout/off could b crazy good & the downside/risk really is quite minimal :)

@ robbiX, I like the way u think; I've mentioned Haddaddi a few times in the past (& Cole is better than most ppl think ;)  If we go after some big-time centers & strike out on all of them, I would definitely pull the trigger on Haddaddi; it's possible that we'll spend big $ on a sg + re-sign Maynor leaving little $, so @ that time, I would say it is crucial that we go get Haddaddi.  Haddaddi is good enough to start on most NBA teams today; he really is starting to learn the NBA game; IMO, his only knock is that he can't play a full 48, he gets tired BUT... for us, I ALSO c this as a benefit; I mentioned that I'd like to have McGee split 1/2 the game w/ Meyers, well this is EXACTLY what Haddaddi can do! :)

Mozgov stated that his current role in Denver does not suit him. About playing no minutes in the series against Golden State: "It is hard to take. But how could I make a difference? Quarreling with Karl? Complaining about the coach? All I could do was wait for a chance. I was completely healthy and eager to fight. However, Karl continued to trust others. I love this club, this city. But of course, the current role does not suit me. And I'm not going to continue to get paid for sitting on the bench.

I am going to ask this question bluntly WHAT THE F@#$ IS THE GOAL FOR THIS TEAM?

For me it is building a team that can contend for a NBA title. Signing Timothy Mozgov, or Samuel Dalembert are not going to get it done simple as that.

Pieces are a collective thing though, if you have a complete team deep everywhere you're going to have role players. On paper the Lakers should have won a championship this year but well.....I'll wait to judge the final product championship wise after the roster is full going into the season. The Miami Heat won last year without a great starting center. Pistons did it in 2004, Celtics did it with Perkins whose not an elite center. There are a lot of factors beyond individual talent that lead to championships.

We need to consider what the role of our center is going to be. We need a defensive presence in the post. Mozgov will give us that. He rebounds quite well and yes while he has been the laughing stock of Lob city and Toronto, he gives 100%. I like his attitude. He's not happy to be paid for sitting on the bench. We don't need a center to give us 20 & 10 a night. Just someone who will get us stops, set screens and provide help defense. Dalembert averaged close to 2 blocks a game for the first 10 years of his career. He knows how to play defense and will bring a degree of NBA know how to the team.

I agree that they won't make us title contenders, but neither will Javale McGee who will come for double the price nor will Larry sanders who will also cost more than Mozgov and Dalembert. The pieces must just fit the puzzle and address certain areas. Currently, the market for good all star caliber centers is non existent. So we need a guy who will do traditional centers work and will give LA some help inside. A defensive rebounder and a guy who gives weak side help on defense and changes shots.

@ cmeese47, Mozgov isn't THE answer, he's a piece to the puzzle.  THE answer to the center position is to get a "needle mover (i.e. Jokim Noah, Al Horford, etc.)" or let our center of the future (aka Meyers) develop w/o putting a guy in his way that will impede his growth, learning, & experience.  Taking chances that could yield big returns w/o too much risk exposure (aka letting Meyers develop while picking up a decent center that doesn't soak up too many min. i.e. ur Mosgovs, McGees, ect.) r the best ways to maintain flexibility (should the gamble not yield something < desired) i.e. like I said b4 w/ McGee, he's a good choice for us because he's a shot blocker/decent defender that will allow Meyers to play ~ 1/2 the game & eventually increase Meyer's min. (then McGee, can b traded for other player(s) that we need because some1 will want McGee's skills/the $ he's worth) BUT McGee STILL has potential to b the man IF Meyers should fail to develop (in which case we unload Meyers somehow & focus on McGee).
