Is Lillard really the best rookie in his Draft Class?

Now I love Lillard, I think the should be the rookie of the year because of his impact with the Blazers, but is he the best. A lot of his stats are mostly because he played the most minutes in the league. His per 36 scoring is around 17. His PER is pretty okay, while the Brow has a 21 PER. Bradley Beal is 19 and putting up great numbers in less minutes. What do you guys think?

Yes Anthony Davis is a better player than Lillard. He is also more efficient and a better rebounder and defender.  Lillard would have been more efficient but often he had to shoulder more of the teams scoring burden.

Sort of like comparing a quarterback to a middle linebacker, I think Lillard had the better season and contributed more to his franchise as a rookie.

Exactly, Lillard contributed more, but Davis was more effective in the little he played. Compared to Lillard, most people played little. I don't think I've ever seen a rookie lead the league in minutes played. I don't really like Davis, but I don't dislike him. He's just a weird dude. I don't know what his offensive game is. He can dunk but I haven't seen many post moves and I don't think his mid range game is that great.

22 points 15 rebounds and 2 block per 48 minutes...  Pretty solid rookie stats right?  That was for Portland rookie Greg Oden but he did not play 48 minutes a game, he played 23 and he only played 6 games that season.  Greg's PER was higher than both Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge but was he more valuable to the team than either of those guys?  Not even close.
Putting in a ton of minutes is part of what made Lilliard so valuable.  He was among the elite poing guards all season and took a leadership role in his rookie season.

Yeah. Wait and see. Best thing to do. I think Lillard will be an All Star for many many years, but Anthony Davis will be and All-NBA guy. Yes his position is very weak but he is also very good. The fact that Portland fans are saying this should show you that we love Lillard and he is great but Anthony Davis will be better.

No knock on Davis, he's the real deal but to be a rookie starting pt guard is on another level when it comes to the responsibilities you have. Lillard stepped up to the plate and played a complete season setting NBA records left and right. He did things only legends had accomplished as a rookie. Pair Davis with Lillard on the  Blazers  and you've got a contender. If only!

Ben Golliver uses on/off-court stats to prove Lillard made his team much better on the court than The Brow did for N.O.

I like it when other people do the work and I can look at the organized info. :)

Lillard is head-and-shoulders the best rookie of 2012-13. Will he be the best player from the 2012 draft class? Possibly, but for all we know Evan Fournier will be the next Reggie Miller. It's too early to say who the best player is. But since you asked who the best ROOKIE this year is, we have our answer: it's Dame and nobody else.

Some great points there, and some great points by Riverman. I guess it all comes down to a matter of opinion. Lillard has had more of an impact, and Davis will be a better player in the long run. But then again, no one expected Dame to play this well. Maybe he can surprise us again. And one thing we can always count on, is and athletic big man's knees going out. So good luck Anthony Davis. Good luck Nerlens Noel.

Big Men seem to get hurt All the time. Oden was great when he played his 17 games in 2009. Im not saying anything really, cant predict the future but its very debatable.Obviously 5 teams passed on Lillard,4 of them for players not Anthony davis, its hard to predict who is gonna do what, just look at some of the past drafts,go on wikipedia look at them just for fun, youll be surprised who was taken and where. We took Martell Webster ahead of david lee,and danny granger,at the time people said it was good. But I personally think Lillard will be better, he tore it up the whole year, summer league, hes the only player besides oscar robertson to have 20 points and 7 assists.Stats are Stats so.Either way,Anthony davis looks terrible with this eybrow thing and he just kinda bugs to let new orleans have him and see were the ball flies

Sorry, RC14, it's hard for me to think of a reason NOT to wish we drafted Jordan. I don't really by your logic, because the Bulls are a work-horse, blue collar team now, and what you're describing is essentially the Lakers. So maybe be glad we never drafted Magic Johnson?

I do get your point, Billy. But that's a cop-out answer when you consider people like Kendall Marshall, Jimmer Fredette, and Johnny Flynn. Then on the flip side, guys like Blake Griffin. Lottery pick guards (even when thrown into a starting role) have almost an equal chance of failure compared to big men. It's not like Lillard is the first guard to be given an opportunity like Allen Iverson; he's the first guy to accrue the same scoring and assist numbers since Iverson. Derrick Rose ALWAYS had the ball and Lillard put up better rookie numbers. If Davis was a better rookie than Lillard, he would've proved it with or without a PG's help. But time will still tell on the overall careers of this rookie class.

Time will tell, true and tested. I just don't like Jordan and the fact that he was considered the Golden Boy and got a lot of calls in his favour at the expense of others. Also like the Lakers.

This draft will go down as one of the better ones

Harrison Barnes, Damian LIllard, Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond, and Anthony Davis all can be stars (imagine that as a starting lineup lol)

Then there are many players that will end up very good/stay in the league for years

Henson, Harkless, Nicholson, Barton, Jenkins, Leonard,

Something I would like to bring up since the name is out there: Drummond/Monroe. Does Detroit have the time and ability to let them coexist? Or can Neil Olshey attack this situation early and come out with a big, valuable body to put in the middle?

After reading every post i found it funny that a lot of people felt that Davis would have a better run, when he hasnt been able to run long. Dame plays the most cerebral position in the game. And played all 82 of them. The kid deserves some love. If you truly want to compare a rook to Dame, talk Harrison Barnes. Not that he's outplayed Dame in any capacity, but that he's in the playoffs making noise.

Plus Barnes is second in minutes played among rookies. So if the minutes argument is out there, Barnes would be the comparison to use. Oh, by the way, Dame's better than Harrison Barnes....
