Trail Blazers (33-43) Vs. Mavericks (37-39)

    What To Watch For

    Another Finish To Remember?
Who can forget what happened between these two teams the last time they battled in the Rose Garden? Check the video below if either A) You're living under a rock or B) well, there's no other explanation for not remembering the improbable comeback which took place on January 29th. First Nicolas Batum hit a big 3, then it was LaMarcus Aldridge who decided it was time for him to drain his first 3 of the season, that one of the step-back variety. Former Trail Blazer Ronnie Price stepped in for the charge, giving the ball back to the home team where LA took it from there. Aldridge hit a game-winning shot against his hometown squad for the second-year in a row. Will this game be filled with as much drama as the previous contest? One thing's for sure, Aldridge will be back for seconds and if Friday's game against Houston was any indication, he's ready. LA tallied 32 points, on 12-19 shooting, and 13 rebounds as he showed no signs of rust after a four-game layoff (ankle). While the Blazers are eliminated from the playoffs and the Mavs are fighting for their own postseason lives, this one has all the makings of another photo finish. Both teams always seem to play classics against one another, especially in the Rose City (cough*Game 4*cough) and when you have two of the game's best power forwards going toe-to-toe, beautiful basketball will be in the building on this Sunday night.

    Defensive Intensity
Let's not sugarcoat it, Portland's defense against the Rockets was not pretty, allowing the high-powered Houston squad 118 points. And Wesley Matthews was not happy about it, even calling out his teammates after the team's seventh straight loss.

"The fans are sick of it, we're sick of it," Matthews said. "We've got to give them something to cheer about. Losing seven straight isn't it. We're playing a little bit harder, but not up to our standards, not what we're capable of. It doesn't matter that we're mathematically out [of the playoffs], this is the best job in the damn world. We've got to treat it as such. We've got to be men. We've got to play, we've got to come to work, until this is over with. We're not doing that. We need to play with some pride, man, we need to play with some pride. I'm trying not to cuss right now. We have to play with some damn heart, this is crazy, this is ridiculous. ... We've got to play like this is the blessing that it is. We're over here taking this for granted. We need to check our hearts at the door. We've got six games left. We lost seven [straight], come on, man, we're better than that. We've got to play with some damn heart."

Watch the opening quarter to see how the Trail Blazers come out on the defensive end. They gave up 32 first-quarter points to the Grizzlies and 35 to the Rockets. If they get up and pressure the Dallas guards and harass Nowitzki every time he touches the ball, it could be a good night in the Rose City. Portland must keep the Mavericks under 25 points in the opening 12 minutes of action and set the tone for the remaining three quarters of play.

I want the Blazers to lose, just to scare the Lakers. Don't care whether it's Utah or Dallas, don't want Lakers in the playoffs.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

I never want the Blazers to lose a game. Rather see the Lakers crumble on their own.

Mavs fans may thank us if we win tonight. Then their players can all shave their playoff beards. It's gettin' a little ugly out there for Mavs fans. It's warm down there in Dallas. You don't need a winter beard like you do up here.

they havent got their 30 point + defecit yet but their workin hard to get there and now with Mathews out im sure there wont be a problem, all they have to do is send in inconsistant babbit to speed things up

I am a fan of the NBA fining referee's for obvious stupid calls and HARD AGRESSIVE DEFENCE FROM START TO FINISH NOT WAITING TO DIG A 10-30 POINT HOLE

I would have settled for a strong 12 minutes...ONE QUARTER...which, not so coincidentally enough is how long I watched this "game".  An injury to a starter playing far too many minutes at this juncture?  Wish I could say I hadn't told you so...repeatedly to redundancy.  Wesley won't be the last either, unless steps are taken.  Is there a difference between losing by 25, or by 40.  I'll take the 40 if it means my guys are healthy...all day long.

Jazz bumped the Fakers out of the eigth spot tonight, so this evenings news isn't all bad.

you watched it for even 12 minutes? I just checked the boxscore in the second quarter and didn't even bother turning the game on after that

Yeah, Will 'The Thrill' really impressed. Still should go to D-League for a month at least. I'm happy. We lost, but we weren't blown out. Lillard shouldn't have gone for an and one. Should have been a three. Now we just have to thrash the Lakers. But of course that won't happen since they always have atleast 8 players on the court. Conference Finals vs. Kings, against the Blazers, every game they've played this year.

Barton was the first rookie to put up those numbers since Grant Hill in 1995. He also played very well in the game against Houston. In no way is this saying he's fully ready, he still needs to improve. But he just showed you what he can do. We should show appreciation not hesitation.

I can't tell you if he is or isn't going to be that guy consistently in the future (although I do believe he will), it all depends on how he improves and commits. But Babbitt or Nolan haven't had any game this year ever even close to that.

they both had great games but not double doubles nolan had one game that was great and babbit has had a few great games more so then barton has had all year I do think bartons got a bigger upside do I think he will be a star probably not more like a real strong role player or 6th man

It's crunch time for the bench players, they are playing for a job now with less than 2weeks to go. Will made a case for himself over Nolan and Babbit. Babbit is a 3rd year player, Will is a rookie, big difference to me.

Babbit and Nolan have NEVER had a great game.. they have had decent games... also both were first round picks and Barton was the 40th pick

Barton MUST get 20+ mins a game for the rest of the season

We hope Matthews heals quick. He is a battler and tough warrior. But in the meantime, we're more then ready to see what Barton can do with extended minutes again.

The season is over so playing anyone including Babbitt and Smith 20 minutes is okay, especially since we want pick #11 and not #12
