Would you like to see Batum become a better scorer?? He developed into a great passer. Batum CAN be a great on ball defender. He surely stuff the stat sheet with Steals, Rebounds, Assists, Blocks

But his offensive game is so one dimensional. All he can seem to do is shoot 3s OR pumpfake and draw 3 freethrows. Would you guys be okay with your second highest paid player not have a well rounded offensive game?

Is it acceptable if Nic becomes a 14/6/6/1/1 guy?? Or do you think as a 3rd option on a playoff team we need to be able to depend on him to score at least 15+ CONSISTENLY

With LaMarcus sitting, Portland's shortcomings offensively have been exposed.  Where do the points come from...on a CONSISTENT basis, when Aldridge isn't in the line-up?  Thus, the banter of upgrading at the 2 and the questioning of Batum.  For those wanting Aldridge traded, watch this team play without him.

I've been writing this for years, still waiting for Nic to give me a reason to stop.  Batum must become a triple threat to maximize his seemingly limitless potential.  He lacks the ability to put the ball on the floor, creating for himself and/or others.  This team desperately needs a wing that can break down and collapse defenses.  Lillard is a big step in the right direction, but not enough to contend...or even consistently win on the road.

In my opinion, Nic is NOT earning his contract currently.

Batum is from France, that is Not Basketball.  They play a much more passive game.  I have said this before, Batum lacks the Mental toughness to play at this level.  Personally I do not think we will ever see him play to a level that is worthy of the Joke of a contract that he got last year.  Paul Allen wasted his money.

They need to find a team in off season that Batum will agree to be traded to and get rid of him.

Would you guys relax? He'll be fine. He's been dealing with some injury or the other for the better part of this season, and still putting up decent numbers. He's got a nice new offensive coach in Stotts, and will probably get better in the off season. Still 24.

honestly he has expanded his game since last season and I'm a huge advacote of this just cause you give a dude a huge contract doesn't mean he's gonna automatically come in and be the next lebron james personally though I think it's still his wrist there hasn't been a whole lot of time to rest for him let alone anyone from our starting line up as there still playing big minutes

Batum has been battling injuries. He injured his wrist on january 19 vs the bucks. From the beginning of the season to january 19, 39 games were played. Throughout 39 games, nic was averaging 16.8 pts a game. So im pretty sure his wrist is still bothering him. I think that once he feels better and recooperates in the offseason he'll be averaging around 16 or 17 next season

Do you remember the beggining of the year when Nic was scoring like crazy. Now he's trying to pass and get triple doubles. This is the only time i would say dont pass to a blazer. He scored 2 30+ point games in the beggining of the year.We need him to shoot a lot more. Look at the game against the rocket in the beggining of the season.

BlazerManic last time I checked Tony Parker and Joakim Noah play on the French National team and they are anything but, passive. Now back to Batum I agree BDawg that is the thing that keeping Nic back from achieving that All Star level, he need to be a threat off the dribble because once you take that 3pt shot away he's Nic of old and it real hurt the team offensively especially now without LA he would definitely be a more triple-double threat if he had that in his game with the drop off passes to LA, Hickson And Leonard and have Lillard and Wes as spot up shooters. It really seems to me that when the heat was on him he responded and played well but, the more the heat went down his play went down I know he had the wrist injury but, you can't use that as an excuse forever even though he won't have that excuse next year Nic needs some big boy pants someone just needs to give him some.

Well you have named two players from France who have made it.  Out of how many?  Lets face it though, Parker and Noah are playing at a much higher level then Batum is capable of.   They are consistent and play thru injuries and do not give excuses on their poor performance.

If Batum really wants to prove he wants to get better and prove he is worthy of is joke contract, then sit for the rest of the season get healed, and play in Summer League like Matthews does to get better and come prepared to play consistently 80% (hopefully more) of an 82 game schedule.

    I agree with BDAWG:

"I've been writing this for years, still waiting for Nic to give me a reason to stop.  Batum must become a triple threat to maximize his seemingly limitless potential.  He lacks the ability to put the ball on the floor, creating for himself and/or others.  This team desperately needs a wing that can break down and collapse defenses.  Lillard is a big step in the right direction, but not enough to contend...or even consistently win on the road."

If we had at least him playing up to his potential "CONSISTENTLY" with Lillard & Aldridge we would be competive, and then we just need to fill in the rest of the pieces.

Most Analysts say we have the best starting five in Basketball, but we cannot solely rely on Aldridge to carry the team.  These past few games are evident of that.  One bright spot though, is Leonard is showing he can play at this level offensively.  Now he just needs to work on his defense and mature there.

Batum is ranked 11th in terms of defense among SF's (Hoopdata defensive metric).  Behind Gerald Wallace and Metta.  He is NOT an elite defender.  He gets a lot of highlight blocks from behind, but gets torn up routinely by elite players.  He's a good defender, but by no means great.

Regarding his passing, I don't see that either.  His assist to TO ratio is 1.89.  He's ranked 17th among SF's.  I still see him routinely throw balls to fans, weak passes with no zip on them etc.

Scoring is another disappointment.  Before the all-star break when his confidence was intact, he was scoring somewhere around 17pts a game which I think met most people's expectations.  Since then however, his scoring is a non-factor for opposing defenses.  He doesn't spread the floor, he doesn't get his own shots, his ball handling is atrocious, and his game is completely 1-dimensional.

As with all things Batum, we end up back at the excuse making.  His age, the coaching, the other players, and now his wrist.  I'm not buying it.  Batum is a veteran making veteran pay.  He's a leader on a team with an all-star, ROY and future all star, a guy averaging a double double, and Wesley Matthews.  His age is a non-factor.  When Kobe Bryant was 24, he was a 4 time all-star and had 3 rings.  Obviously Batum isn't in that situation, but what's holding him back?  It's not his age or experience period.  The coach has said numerous times that Batum needs to be aggressive and score.  His X-rays and MRI are both negative.  What exactly is hurt?  What player in this league is not playing with pain and injuries at this point?  The only thing broken is his confidence.

Bottom line is, this season is another massive disappointment made worse by his ludicrous contract.  If it wasn't clear last season that no other team believes in Batum, it is now.  Nobody lined up for him except that nut job Kahn (or is he a nut?).  His contract is poisonous after this season.  We gambled on development and a resolution to whatever was holding him back, and lost.   This season has done nothing but expose Batum's significant limitations.  I don't have anything against the guy personally, I don't care that he's French, and he is by all accounts a very nice person.  Aside from that circus he created last season (please, before you say anything, don't make another excuse about his agent) I have really nothing bad to say about him.  I really really want to be fan of all the players.  But he's just not a great basketball player.

Batum fan's (myself included) will say he shouldn't leave, others will say trade, but the I think the best thing to do is wait. Wait till at least Feb or March next year. He WILL improve. It is possible that this is a mental issue. Everyone goes through slumps.

    Now his Shoulder is Hurt.

Reports: Blazers To Shut Down F Nicolas Batum Over Shoulder Injury?

Stay connected for news and updates

    USA TODAY Sports

Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum has suffered a right shoulder injury that reportedly puts the rest of his 2012-13 season into question

Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum has suffered a right shoulder injury that puts the rest of his 2012-13 season into question. Batum underwent surgery on right shoulder in Oct. 2009.

Candace Buckner of The Columbian reports on Twitter...

Nicolas Batum says it's his right shoulder (in 2010, he had surgery on that shoulder to repair a torn labrum) But it's not torn this time.

Batum says the injury happened in Utah and he felt the "same sensation" he had in 2010. Says his arm feels heavy and he really can't use it.

Also the biggest thing Blazers should take from this, Batum says he will not return until he's 100 percent. Right now, he says he's "50-60"

Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reports on Twitter...

It's actually pain in Nicolas Batum's right shoulder. He's been told if not 100%, he shouldn't play. Says he's 50-60%. Could sit out season.

I asked Batum if playoffs were in play, would he be playing: "Maybe, I don't know. I can't say yes because my arm is real weak right now."

The medical term for Nicolas Batum's injury is "plexopathy" in his right arm.

Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports on Twitter...

I asked Blazers F Nicolas Batum if he plans on playing again this season. His reply: "I don't know."

Batum injured his right shoulder during Monday night's loss to Utah. He's had X-rays and an MRI, and the tests did not reveal major damage.

But it's the same shoulder that Batum had surgery on his second season, so he and the #Blazers are taking extra caution with it.

There are eight games remaining over the next two weeks in Portland's regular season schedule. The Blazers will soon be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Batum, 24, has averaged 14.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 block per game. Batum has played the third-most minutes of any player in the league, trailing only Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant and Blazers guard Damian Lillard.

What's stopping them from shutting him down it not like he's saving us from playoff elimination this season is over so his should be as well.
