MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy has had a setback with his surgically repaired right knee, casting further doubt on his chances of resuming a career derailed by knee problems.

Roy gave an update Thursday on his recovery from arthroscopic surgery in December. He says he was feeling close to trying to play in a game for the first time this season, but felt more pain last Saturday and had to slow things down.

The former Portland Trail Blazers All-Star retired before last season because of chronic knee issues. After feeling better this summer, Roy signed with the Timberwolves to start a comeback.

Roy says his latest setback has been discouraging. But he remains hopeful that he will play this season. He says there is no timetable for his first game.

I dont think Brandon " The Natural " Roy had a bigger fan than me. That dude was an assassin. A beast with the rock. You knew what was coming and still couldnt stop him. From his crossover step backs, to his game winning dagger three's, the man represented Rip City. But there comes a time when you just have to hang up your jersey and say i gave it my best shot. Someone in his immediate circle has to man or woman up and tell B-Roy, Dude ! Enough is enough. Unless you're no longer concerned with ever walking again. No one would think any less of a cat who laced em up and brought the business every night that he was capable. Walk away. Keep your head up,but walk away.

Been sayin' the same for longer than I can even remember CT.  Being a father myself, my wish for Brandon is for him to be able to lace 'em up in the future...in his driveway with the kids as they grow.  At some point, as you've said, an intervention of sorts needs to take place here.  Somebody needs to save Brandon from Brandon.  Perhaps too much of his identity is tied to the game, maybe basketball is who he is and life away from the hardwood seems dark and lonely.  Perhaps it's just as he has said in countless interviews, that it's simply just his love for the game.  Whatever the case BRoy, think about your kids and your future with THEM.

    Brandon,

Please retire with dignity and let Number 7 hang from the rafters of the Rose Garden.  Then become a Coach/Mentor for young men coming into the League.  But first, retire for your family.

You are always welcome at the Rose Garden.

Screw that B Roy you play forever never give up on your dream get a bionic knee, get on the juice, nearly OD on deer piss if you have to but don't give up. Show your children what it is to be a man and fight for what you want. Then and only after you have tried everything should you consider retiring.

No if he wants to keep trying to play basketball then I am supportive. I hope he does not severely impair his life after basketball by doing so but if the man wants to play I say do anything and everything you can to make it happen while you still got the passion.

Nice Idea but I think the TWolves trade is very lobsided in our favor

Derrick Williams and Budinger are proven players in the league. Claver and Freeland are not

Hawes was playing nice this season and would be a good pick up imo ...

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
