Trail Blazers (8-10) At Pacers (9-9)

    What To Watch For

    Finish, Finish, Finish!

The Trail Blazers have been on the road a long time. It's been over 10 days since they've slept in their own beds and they can see the light in the tunnel. Only a game against the Pacers in Indiana stands in the way of the Trail Blazers heading home. It can be easy, especially for a young team, to lose focus and take the night off knowing their longest road trip of the season is nearly over. But after two incredible overtime wins, Portland just can't let that happen. They can't ruin the momentum of those two wins by laying an egg in Indy. Luckily for the Blazers, their bench has been productive these past two contests, scoring 31 against Charlotte and 29 against Cleveland, which means the starters should have enough gas left in their tanks to finish this marathon.

    Aldridge At Center

After Coach Terry Stotts had success by playing LA at the 5 and surrounding him with a bunch of guards and small forwards, what will be do this time around against the Pacers? Will he view that success as a one-time ordeal or will it become a staple of the Trail Blazers' offense. During the comeback stretch, Aldridge was in the post as the center and came up with two, absolutely huge offensive rebounds, which led to putbacks. Not only was he a beast on the boards (13 rebs), but he commanded a double team and Coach made sure there were shooting lined up along the arc ready to catch and release if left open. Will we see the Lillard, Matthews, Batum, Babbitt, Aldridge combo once more? I certainly hope so.

Don't listen too much into folks explaining how the Pacers are way below their expectation levels. They lost their leading scorer to injury. That'd be like us losing LaMarcus and expect to win every game. That's not going to happen. The Pacers have a solid sytem, a deep bench, and can still play some pretty mean ball.

Hopefully the Blazers have a few more cavalry charges left in them. Last one guys, you got this Rip City!

Pacers are defensively still very good. We'll need to match that effort to beat them.

The Blazers have seen the glimpses of light in the storm they been facing with the way this trip has gone I'll take a 3-4 road trip, this game will probably be a grind if the effort is there we should be in good shape if we can try to be on pace to get 90 I like our chances.

Portland will need to resurrect something that resembles interior defense to get this one from Indy.

Pacers played Chicago last night and eeked out a win in the final min. 80-76 final. Pacer bench played a combined 55 minutes and scored a combined 12 points.

    P. George 40 min

    L. Stephenson 38 min

    G Hill 36 Min

    D West 35 mim R. Hibbert 34 min

Blazers cannot afford to start slow and shoot poorly. Digging out of holes is not what I want the Blazers to be known for. As Mike Barret point out against CHA, the Blazers made 8 of 37 baskets in the first 6 minutes of each of 4 quarters, and 32 or 49 in the last 6 minutes of each of 4 quarters.

I think we'll struggle on the boards, but I look for JJ to bust his tail tomorrow night to limit the gap. And we really need to take care of the ball better. Indiana is going to pick our pockets all night if we don't.

Pacers are 29th in PPG and 27th in APG. Not a big scoring team...
Yet they are #1 in RPG and #3 in points allowed.

Missed shots are gonna hurt 2 fold, but I don't think they can keep Portland from scoring like they do other teams, simply because Portland has so many weapons. Dare I mention Luke Babbit? I don't want to jinx him.

Thought we looked tired, rotation wasn't smooth this game, and just had too many bad offensive looks. But it wasn't an outright negative game, it was good, just a loss.

Ya win some, ya lose some.

The bench did not step up tonight and Batum was out with a sore back I think. Not enough ball movement and too many turnovers.

Didn't happen, so neither did a W. Giving up a higher FG% than you yourselves shoot and doing it consistently means lottery bound. Need a shot blocker/changer yesterday, a Canales replacement, and an ongoing conserted effort to ratchet up the perimeter D. Teaching how to "hit, find, go" boxing out your opponent also wouldn't hurt. Get tough, get nasty, get wins.

Blazers were shooting 70% in the 4th quarter up until the 6 min mark.  It was a 4 point game at that point.   Portland allowed several 9-0 runs and dug a deep hole again with a very poor 3rd quarter.  Some eggregious turn-overs (barton for the 2nd game in a row, steping back, out of bounds  while in the corner)(JJ throwing the ball through a defender, or not making the open pass).  Definitely wasn't pretty.

Guys going to the line and going 1 for 2 in crunch time kills when you aren't getting to the line much in the first place.  Only 3 Blazers got to the free throw line all game... yes, that's correct... only THREE Blazers shot free throws.  The refs did not help at all as Hibbert constantly jumped into Blazers, and guards constantly blocking Lillard and Matthews at the top of the key.  Physical game, but the calls were not consistant at all.  Can't make silly mistakes when you aren't getting calls, and you've got to make your free throws.

Not all who wander are lost. The Blazers did not get lost on this road trip. I think that's important.

Agree Tobyus. Once again, bringing the heat with some valid points Fanatic. Supplementing your point identifying only three Blazers shooting free throws...we have little to no post offense with this roster and in Stott's system, and not being aggressive in taking the ball hard to the rack are the contributors. These two factors along with obvious fatigue, manifested themselves in sub .500 FG% again. Stott's system is perimeter oriented, necessitating defense and rebounding for points in transition. None of that is happening, thus the record.

All the production we got going into this game was not maintained when the bench came in. Big backslide by the bench last night. Every big run came when we subbed them in. Turnovers were the culprit from what I saw. Way to many passes picked off. Back to the drawing board. At least back home there will be film sessions and practice time to adjust..that's harder to do on a 7 game road trip. Our schedule has been brutal but looks easier over the rest of the month.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
