Batum should have BIGGER role than LMA

I think we win the HAWKS game if we went through Batum during the 4th...  Nic was just getting hot from the arc and lane was opening wide up for him to create then the 4th gets going and we funnel it through LMA the rest of the way, granted a good option but not the best option to win this game.  LMA turing into the basket is one thing, but turning and fading then its low odds.... Lillard could also use more time off the ball IMO and rather than Price lets let Batum create and SCORE from up top in iso... guard him or he torches you from the arc... he has will now to get to the paint and glydes in or kicks out to open shooters either way usually makes right choice.... This is a dif player and ready to gear up another level

    Is now to feature Batum?

he is primed for a breakout game of 40 plus soon IMO i mean wouldn't it be fun to watch Batum torch the visiting team from outside all game for once rather than Mayo and Neal torching  us?

just what I'm seeing there are wins in this team if we ride Batum

Yes. Aldridge needs to be dealt for depth. Hickson plays the 4 better and Leonard should start at the 5. Nic is ready for the additional responsibility. If you're an Aldridge fan reading this and becoming upset, ask yourself what is better for LA, given this team's direction and prognosis. A beloved high character player in his prime, like Aldridge, deserves an opportunity to win at the highest level. This Blazer team will not afford that opportunity to LA soon enough, something we will all begin to see Aldridge slowly coming to terms with this season as the losses pile up. Everybody wins. This team needs more pieces, period...and Aldridge will walk away at contract's end yielding nothing in return.

Haha great jump, BDawg, from D Licious essentially saying "Batum could be our #1 option some nights and Aldridge could be a great #2" to you saying "Exactly, get rid of Aldridge"...

DLicious, agreed man. Nico is setting himself up to have a season where he could arguably silence a LOT of doubters. I think as this team moves forward, we're going to see alot of our pieces fitting together more smoothly; Nic and LaMarcus will balance out their duties, and Dame, JJ, and Wes will do what they do. Meanwhile, our bench, who everyone is hating on for not scoring (because the bench is NEVER in together, they play staggered with a few starters, who they feed for the better shot opportunities, exactly how they should be), will all gain critical experience and learn how to play some real NBA defense. I bet that by the all star break, we'll have a pretty dominant front line and a bench with, at the very least, some solid defensive capability and increased value for moving forward.

Not "becoming upset" that you'd mention such a thing, BDawg, no problem with it being brought up, I just don't see the evidence as being so definite... Aldridge's prime, as far as the window of opportunity is concerned, is not so far past Batum's/JJ's/the-rest-of-our-team that they won't have overlap and give us some huge years, coming soon... He's a beloved high character player, as you said, and part of that could be about staying with his team, cuz that's what high character players do! It's not all about trading for a ring, for every team or every player, in fact if I've heard any opinions about it one way or the other, I've heard Aldridge, Lillard, and Hickson all give quotes that they could see themselves as career Blazers. Some will say "sure, players will always say that to media" but we all know that sometimes you can tell when there's sincerity in the statement, not just talking points... You mention the "losses piling up" as being part of the reason Aldridge will distance himself from the team, yet it's never been ignored that this season is not about wins/losses... again, he's made plenty comments in interviews that would show he's okay with this, not the opposite as you imply... Yes, this team could use some more pieces, but we don't have to give away a franchise player to get them! And obviously, your doom-n-gloom that he will walk away after the contract and give us nothing is completely unfounded. Sorry, I just don't buy it yet, definitely not with such certainty that I'd jump on board with "sell him for high value now as he peaks in his abilities". Just a little early to have that conversation is all I'm saying.

Agree to disagree 247. Have always opposed cattering a makeshift, customized rotation around a non-traditional, jumpshooting, non-rebounding 4. When your 4 isn't giving you points in the paint or boards, you rely on your 5 or your 3 to do both. Neither is desirable, and putting either on your 3 is simply unreasonable. With LA getting more paint on his kicks ignoring wet paint signs strolling the walks of downtown Portland than he does playing basketball, his team will never get fitted for hand bling. If LA truly wants to stay and wants a championship, his play will speak for him and he'll return to the block and to All-Star form. We'll see. Stay tuned.

Game to game sometimes one guy has the hot hand. Last night Nico would'be been the guy. LaMarcus has not been a clutch guy in the end game. Great teams have different guys step up and be the go to guy and I hope that's what we'll aspire to. LaMarcus is not getting calls that allstars usually get. Last night when he drove to the hoop he was getting offensive foul calls that he shouldn't, so you should then adjust and get the BEST shot, not the go to guy shot. JJ could have been that guy too, but last night I thought it was Nico. My biggest problem with LA recently is his shooting so poorly at the freethrow line. I think Wheels said 52% before he missed those really important buckets in the final minute. Last season he was 89%. I don't get it? It's still early and our core is still a force that can beat anyone on a good night. Everyone in the starting 5 is a potential go to guy.

Aldridge needs to stop shooting jumpers and utilize his post game. Batum needs to start learning how to play defense more than 1 quarter/game. Babitt needs to stop being a complete bust!

you dont trade or let your best player go because now we're not winning and suddenly his game isnt right for his position. hes the best on our team and hes the one who should be talking the important shots until lillard gets a little bit older. then we can talk about that haha but its still early so lets hope to a great rest of the season.

I was happy at first when Olshey said he wouldnt trade Aldridge. But now the way he is playing im a little scared lol. If he doesnt pick it up by the trade deadline It would be best to trade him to acquire depth. Hickson is out playing LA right now....

I like to play the hand we were dealt so I'm not saying we ship LMA out of town so quick.  He has been a loyal Blazer and playing Dirk in Stotts sets he shoots a lot of elbow jumpers off two man pick and rolls from elbow extend.... a lot of jumpers... if he was demanding the ball deep in the box and getting to the line he would be great down the stretch and showed signs of that two years ago with Miller.... give him time but until then ride 88 and

Once again, D Licious, you and I share the same feelings. Of all the Blazers that I love and hugely respect, LaMarcus is at the top of the list... I feel it's a fan's job to be critical of his play and make sure he's keeping his head straight, but that's not to say that I see him solely as a tradeable asset, like I might be more ready to feel with some of our less-experienced, less high-potential players. Even in those cases, I'd rather send a guy (who's spent time and worked for our team) out to Idaho to grow, compared to trading them away for whatever's available at the time. Trades, in my opinion, are more something that should be constantly scouted and looked after, but you only jump at THE right ones... but that's a different conversation.

Like you said, if these are the plays that Stotts is lining up for LaMarcus, so be it, lets just hope that it also means that Nic will be playing a MUCH bigger role as well... he's ready for it!

... and still hope that in the long run, LaMarcus turns back to tipping his scales towards inside shots, and leaves the long balls to Nic and the Guards.

Lamarcus is coming off hip surgery....maybe he is scared to bang down low to re injure it
But this is early in the season. Maybe Stotts sees his production is lower and lets LA go back to his old game. Aldridge is a player you build around. With him, we are only 1 piece away from being an elite team.

Come around the deadline I gurantee LA will go back and go back to his All Star status.

I'm with yah on LMA being a chip!

Harden made the jump why not Batum.. give him the ball up top more... just watched him pour in 11 in that 3rd with that super slick stroke

    Batum #1
LMA #2 if LMA does tip scales to the box and trips to the line then Batum LMA go 1a 1b
Lillard #3 until he is #1 haha

I like these three chips tho to work with with Meyers being the Wild Card

Batum is better then Harden.Thats a no brainer. Thats like comparing Scottie pippen to Alex english. One guy just fills it up,the other has all around game. But Lamarcus is the #1 option, batum is a active player who really doesn't have a structured offensive game. Lamarcus gets the ball in the post, draws defenders, kicks it out and the blazers find the open man,its a structure,a game plan if you will. His Offensive game is refined.Batum is really a high energy guy who gets his points in transistion, slashing to the hoop or by hitting a 3. He doesn't have a refined half court game we you can just give him the ball and clear the floor for him to go one-on-one with his man.And guys lets not think about trading Lamarcus. Its hard to find players who WANT TO play in portland, lets be honest alot of the Brothers don't wanna come to Portland and they leave as soon as they can(felton,Crawford). Lamarcus wants to be here so lets not trade him, that'd be dumb

Batum has a super nice clip started
    averaging 39.7 minutes
    shooting .482 from the field
    .394 from the arc
    from the stripe .763
    20.8 PPG
    6.30 boards
    4.70 defensive boards is big
3.2 dimes this will go up if we continue to let him create up top with ball
2.33 steals (basically swiping everything he touches)
1.33 rejections he is the best SF since Pippen on run downs

only 23 and just starting to touch the surface of his potential... I dig his quote after the game "I'm feeling like I can do anything I want I on the court now... that is a dangerous!!

9 games in and how many of you would still would trade Nico to the Wolves for D Williams and change now??  Really overpriced?????

    Keep it rolling Sic Nic!!!

Batum is the man, just think we traded Darrel Arthur for him.Haha,we Trade Tyrus Thomas for Aldridge and we unloaded Gerald wallace for Lillard.I'd say Blazers have made some pretty smart moves. But all I ever get to hear about is Oden being drafted over Durant. If we had Durant we wouldn't have lillard or Batum so forget that Skinny no defense playing Bum

Just thought I'd revisit a comment made only two weeks ago that drew considerable criticism, but now looks to be coming to fruition. Ben Golliver of BlazersEdge asserted the same this afternoon on 750 The Game and Canzano's show, echoing my thoughts. Golliver asserted LaMarcus has basically mailed it in, seeing lottery as this season's end game. Hickson's play looks to be threatening LaMarcus' long term job security here in Rip City. Not one to normally toot my own horn, but when unfairly and inaccurately scrutinized? Toot toot!
