Trail Blazers (1-0) At Suns (0-1)

Even without Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, it was a great first performance, as a team, by the Trail Blazers in their 93-75 victory over the Lakers. While I expect us to continue to play well, Friday's game in Phoenix should be much more competitive. Yes, the Lakers are a much better team, but this is pre-season. They know what they have, so no need to to play their starters heavy minutes. On the other hand, teams like Portland and Phoenix, who are young and unknown, will lean on their core players a bit more during the pre-season just to see what they have. Just as the Mike's said last night on broadcast, there were so many different combinations on the court that, that was probably a group of five had played alongside one another. Coach Stotts is definitely going to work out the kinks and find out what he has with this roster.

In terms of Coach Stotts, I was really pleased with his offense. We rarely had a possession bog down late in the shot clock because there was so much ball movement, player movement. Not only is it more entertaining to watch, but the team thrives in his motion offense. As for the individual players, I want to see more Morrison. He shot lights out and I think he has a legit shot at being Batum's backup if he can continue to hit open shots. We saw the Lakers were unable to double team LA down low because guys like Lillard, Batum, Matthews, and Morrison were lights out from behind the line. Outside of Ammo, obviously I want to see if Lillard can continue his impressive play. He admitted to being a little nervous before his first game, especially against Nash, but once he calmed down, he was sensational. His hesitation, pull-up mid-range jump shot is just lethal.

Best wishes to Channing Frye. He is an exciting player to watch, and I hope he can get back on the court for Phoenix a.s.a.p.

Pphoenix has an interesting squad.  I won't be surprised if they improve upon last years win %.  They lose Nash but gain Beasley Dragic and Scola....hmm.  I like their squad.  This will be a good win if we can pull it off.

I want to see more of the Ronnie Price and Damian Lillard back court combo again.... why not let Lillard loose off the ball at times :)

Our 2 PG offense is driving defenses crazy. That's something that needs to be exploited during the season. (And let's hope Ronnie's ankle isn't serious.)

I was really afraid Lillard was going to have a single-digit scoring game, but that kid is a 2nd-half pimp.

MEYERS LEONARD! 14 and 8?! Imagine what will happen when he learns to power it in when he's under the basket.

Coby Karl... sorry, dude. You've got a great hustle, but I'm kinda rooting against you just because you picked #7. Too soon, man. Too soon.

Well, I did like the lines on our rooks.  These will be nice averages if they can maintain.  Morrison did himself no favors this game.  Did Babbit do enough to boost his stock.  Freeland is getting me excited.  Fast breaking and flat footed blocks...nice.  He is more athletic than he looks.

Freeland did look really good. There's something about a big man coast-to-coast that just makes me happy. And his post defense is going to be a HUGE asset to this team. I expect him to be coming in any time an opponent's C or PF is giving us too much grief on the block.

You can also tell the post moves are there. I just think he needs to be a little more patient with them and notice what the defender's doing first.

Lillard was in a slump this game but that will happen so IM not worried.
I really liked what I saw in our offense in the second quarter. Batum and Matthews looked like they improved with there handling and there decisions. First quarter was pretty bad though. A lot of bad 3s.

Really liked what I saw from Ronnie Price in his short time playing. He really surprised me. Great D and makes smart choices.

Freeland is also gonna be really good for us. He is a good aggressive defender. He didnt get a lot of touches on offense but you can see he got some moves.

Meyers was AWESOME this game. Loved his hustle diving on the floor forcing jump balls. His rebounding and put backs looked good late game. 14 and 8, very impressive.

Batum is looking good. Perimeter defense was an issue this game but PHO was getting lucky a couple times.  We are gonna be good.

Not gonna lie, Babbit was doing some good things out there. His defense has improved ALOT. He isnt settling for long 3s. Finally learned how to pump fake and make his own shot (Kinda), but I am liking him more and more.

Olshey did some good moves adding some players who I never thought would help BUT they are helping us greatly (Price, Jeffries, Sasha)

I hope Stotts has the team watching film on this game today. Our assists column was almost blank in the first half. Our offensive and defensive rebounding was atrocious except for LaMarcus and Leonard who rebounded really well. Leonard and Batum kept us in the game. Perimeter defense was not good. Babbit played better in this loss and so did Freeland. It was, I guess, what preseason is about. Finding holes in the game that need to be filled. Lillard padded his stats in the 4th qtr but only had two assists by halftime and couldn't defend Dragic. It was interesting and probably a good wake up call across the board. Wesley had a good game and I like Price, Jeffries and Pavlovic a whole lot. Hope Ronnie heals quickly because this team needs his defense against high scoring pt guards. Our 3 pt shooting was really bad as well. Hope we don't fall in love with the 3 ball.

Yeah I hope we dont fall in love with the 3 either.  Loved the out of bound off screen play for Batum. Batum looks more comfortable this season and I think he is ready for more pilays and touches this season. If Meyers can play like he did that game or even close to that game during the season then that would help us alotttt. Damian did make some dumb decisions this game. This is the first bad game he had though lol. Its good for people too have a reality check. He played great all the SL games and the Laker game, but he wont play like that every game. Still I dont think this will happen if we play vs the Suns during the season. I see us sweeping them. We are going to be good this season WOOOOOOOT WOOOOOOOOOT

Blazer did good not to lose by 20. Suns were hitting a lot of shots. I liked the scrappy play that kept the Blazers within' striking distance for most of the game. Phoenix double-teamed LaMarcus a lot. It definately took the Blazers out of what they wanted to do on offense.

To go another season with so many rookies is not a good idea. We need a couple of vets and atleast one young bench scorer. If we want a Center, go after Hawes from Philly and Dorrell wright can be signed as a free agent. We can trade our 2nd round...

Thanks Ricky.   I''ll be watching @ 10.   Haven''t seen enough right hand from Shazamm.   Without the ability to take his defender either way off the bounce, let alone finish at the cup with either hand?   Second rounder at best.

Sug81 I love Iggy but this team has numerous gaping holes throughout the depth chart so signing Iggy is not the best way to spend our limited funds

That roster looks pretty good, but if we would have enough cash Corey or Ronnie brewer would be nice
