Trail Blazers (0-0) At Lakers (0-1)

Basketball is finally back...well kind of. They aren't playing for keeps, but the Trail Blazers and Lakers will both be looking to work the kinks out. L.A. already has one game under their belts, a 110-83 loss to the Golden State Warriors. In defeat, the Lakers gave up a 35-0 run to the Warriors and saw no starter play over 19 minutes. Dwight Howard also sat this one out.

Who knows how Coach Stotts will approach this pre-season opener. He's been keeping the players on their toes during Training Camp by not keeping the groupings during practice consistent so the majority of the players saw time with the "1's" and "2's". We know what we're getting out of Aldridge, Batum, and Wesley, but I really want to see how the young players react to a live NBA game. This isn't Summer League and you don't get 10 fouls before you're shown the door. I'm also interested in seeing which Small Forward takes ownership of the backup role behind Nic. Will it be Morrison, Babbitt or Karl?

Don't show the Lakers too much of our playbook. L.A. does there homework, and will look to take advantage they can, during the 1st regular season game later this month.

I think showing the Lakers our playbook won't be a problem as our roster is still learning it themselves. Also think with a lot of rotations from the bench we have an advantage. Can't think of another NBA team that has more new players this season and teams won't have the past to gauge our team on. I'm really excited to see how the vets play. I see Ronnie Price as a real advantage against Nash because he practiced against him in Phoenix and is the better defender. I'm hoping Wes and Nico cause major problems for Kobe and LA outplays Gasol. JJ should dominate without Howard playing. 8 players with double doubles is on my wish list.

Im ready. A couple of guys i'll be specifically rooting for if they get some run is Adam Morrison and Victor Claver. We know what we can expect from Lillard, and that Meyers is a work in progress. Freeland or the British Tiger has been solid. Sasha is a vet and alot of people arent aware of how well he handles the ball. He can play point at times and give us a huge front and back court. Of course that would only happen in the later stages of the season. But Claver i havent heard a whole lot about in these practices. Morrison ive always liked since his Zag days. I also have a soft spot for North Westerners. I hope this kid is as lights out of a shooter as he once shown that he could be. Go Blazers !!!

I just want to see a clean game. While this is the first pre-season game, this isn't summer league. No crazy fouls. No silly passes. I want to see the team play fundamental basketball and use the pass to get one another open looks. I'm not expecting a lot of the shots to drop since it is the first game but I want to see quality looks, because I know those same looks will connect when the games start to count and hte players have formed a rhythm from the pre-season.

Excited to see our starting line up with  D.L. If I see 5 good offensive sets this early I think we will be ok this year. Really want to see Batum and D.L. run a bit too. Love the Blazers, GET SOME!!!

No Kobe, shoulder strain. Listed as day-2-day. Batum too much defense for a preseason game is scaring the Lakers.

im pretty sure they determined babbit will only play the 4 which means unless someone goes down he's going to be a rare appearance in game, perhaps he'll get some time in pre season but hickson freeland and our main man LA require far too much playing time in regular season. and id rather develop meyers where we can than have babbit stinking up the defense.

Hey... these couple of lottery picks aren't bad. I was nervous when Dame first came out. He didn't look like himself, then he suddenly did after the half. I laughed when Nash practically ended up on his ass when Lillard stepped back to the top of the key from a full sprint. WHO DOES THAT?! His passing was right on target. He could've had 10 assists if Luke, Nic, and LaMarcus were shooting like their normal selves.

By the way, I think the concept of Luke playing strictly at the 4 was referring only to tonight's game. Considering the lineup changes in this game, I can't imagine Stotts is already deciding that certain players will only play one position for the 82-game season. Although, I'm just as frustrated with Luke as ever. (Mike Rice apologizing as usual: "don't judge on one game.") If he doesn't stop looking like a rookie by the trade deadline, send that albino boy packing.

i think the problem with babbit is he cant guard a 3, so he's stuck at the 4 guarding back up PFs and boxing out, which isnt a bad thing if he is successful but i dont want him eating minutes from good players with LA playing ~36 a night (hopefully he gets to rest more now that nate isn't here) and freeland filling the gaps i dont see luke having much time.

this game was very exciting, i saw some rookie jitters and some rookie fouls, but by the second half lillard looked like a 3-4 year veteran, he has quickness, patience, and accuracy, his bball IQ is godlike im glad he had 4 years of college. once JJ learns to catch his passes this kid is going to be unstoppable.

meyers is exactly what i expected so far, i knew he'd be better than people were giving him credit for, he has a lot to learn but he is learning and has a high basketball IQ. i loved the double screen lob play that kind of thing is going to be there so often with aldridge commanding respect.

morrison still has work to do, he looked out of shape IMO

    im sad barton isnt playing

One tiny thing I saw that made me happy.... Joel Freeland. Even though I'm a little upset he didn't get to play as much as I would have expected, I saw that there is absolutely zero euro weakness in his game. I liked what I saw from his limited minutes the most

I like Stotts ball... LMA and Lillard are such tough covers I think Wes and Nic will be huge benefactors of all the attention they will get... Meyers-Hickson-Freeland headed monster is going to work just fine.

Blazers are so much tougher many people think.

Lillard is the definition of Efficient... Cool Customer that can flat out stroke it

    Nice first win

Lillard is as advertised. Fearless. He ran our squad as good as Nash. I love the way he just explodes to his left. He is so explosive that Nash began respecting his first step. He almost broke Steves ankle with a feint and then a step back jumper.Wish we could have seen Barton. Freeland is solid. Morrison can shoot it. Is it me or did the Lakers look a little tired in the second half ? I guess all that running we did in practice paid off. Who's next ?

I love all of our off season acquisitions. This game should show fans that Neil Olshey actually may be one of the sharpest GMs in the game. Ronnie Price is NOT a 3rd option scrub pt guard. He's way above Nolan Smith. Sasha Pavlovich is a real asset as is Jared Jeffries. Meyers Leonard really impressed me as well as Lillard, who put up better stats in less minutes than Nash did! Morrison shot well but cannot guard Meta World Peace. Babbit shot horribly but played the best defense I've ever seen him play. Claver had great handles and I think is potentially better than Babbit or Morrison. Both Nolan Smith and Joel Freeland were the most disappointing in the opener and yes, I know Nolan is playing in pain. I love our new vets! Gasol couldn't play against any of our bigs..he looked confused all night. Go Blazers!

Like to add that I think Joel Freeland is more suited to the 5 than the 4. JJ played great in limited minutes..3 blocks! LaMarcus really rebounded well in limited minutes. Our starting lineup is very impressive. All this without Elliot or Barton....our bench has been grossly underrated all summer

Ain't that the truth. While watching last night's game all I could say was "Oh my god they're playing defense!!!" I definately think we'll be turning some heads and surprising a lot of people this season. Especially once we actually get our flow and start to gel, it's gonna be frightening. It's so good to see movement on the offensive side of the ball, passing up good shots for great shots, making the extra pass. And all of our returning guys have grown SO much over this offseason, almost beyond recognition. I think one word that really comes to mind in regards to last night's performance: hussle.

Only reason this game was tied at halftime, is the refs made a bunchl of favorable calls for the Lakers in that 1st half.
