ESPN.com has released its summer forecast for the Western Conference, compiled from a survey of its various NBA writers and bloggers.

The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to go 35-47 and finish in the No. 11 seed in the Western Conference.

The playoff teams, in order: Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz.

The teams below Portland: Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings.

Update: Meanwhile, Bradford Doolittle of Basketball Prospectus projects 33.1 wins for the Blazers and the No. 13 seed in the West, with only the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns trailing Portland in the standings.

This is an insult. Its time to make people eat their words. Go Blazers !!!!!!

While I echo my friend meese's thoughts, I will say I like this new pre-season concept of under-promising and over-delivering (potentially).  Can't remember a time heading into the grind where expectations were so low.  Maybe pre-BRoy.  I do feel they are just however.

This team has five rookies, a second year player in Nolan who was awful last season, Luke no D Babbitt, and Elliot Williams who might as well be a rookie since he can't stay on the court. That is eight players with little to no NBA experience. Then our veterans are not much better, Matthews and Batum are inconsistent and just above average in terms of starters at their position. Hickson played well for us last year but he was also cut from a terrible Sacramento team. Jeffries, Price and Pavlovic are nothing more than bit role players. LA is our only player without question marks.

Expecting this team to make the playoffs will lead to disappointment.

What we should be cheering for is this team meshing together under Stotts system, sustained year long effort, and development of our young players so we can challenge for a playoff spot next season.

Pffft... Portland will win 40 games. Lillard will roll right into a role, and not seem to be a Rookie. Matthews is much improved in his shooting game and getting to the basket.
Elliot Williams is NOT a Rookie level player and will surprise many!
Batum will thrive under Stotts and be able to play his game, putting up better offense and Defense.
Aldridge will score more off the creativity that Lillard brings in.

    40+ games won guaranteed!

Anyone who's been a long time Blazer fan knows we never get much positive ink before the season starts. Under the radar has become our identity and I don't give it much thought. When I think about the possibilities of the upcoming season, I start with optimistic projections across the board. Sort of like saying players are innocent until proven guilty. Already a lot of Blazer bashing on the net and we haven't even tipped off yet. Ronnie Price could very well have a career year, Leonard could turn into an allstar, etc...we have no clue what's going to develop and even less knowledge about what the new coaching staff's approach will be as far as strategy or rotation. I think we're deeper than most people think and wouldn't talk trades until mid January when we'll know who's working and who's milking a paycheck. My hope every season is to stay above 500 in the win column and stay healthy. I'm not dillusional enough to think we'll get to a championship this season but in my own jaded way can hope the Lakers and Heat have injury problems to major players aka Chicago. I really want to see our young team in the 2nd round of the playoffs at least. Go Blazers!

Lets not talk about the past. We dont need that kind of negativity lol
When I was looking at our schedule game by game I had us going 44-38 But a few of those game were a little biased heehee. So I see us going 40-42 around there. Hopefully we can keep it above .500 . CANT WAIT FOR THE SEASON!

One does not appreciate victory until having had tasted defeat. Or like my Homie Siccolo said, " something like that " . If thats the case, we should be on par for victory damned soon, because Lawwd knows we've been getting pummeled for years. hahahahahahaha

Golden State, Utah, Minnesota, Memphis, and Mavericks and Blazers are going to fill out the 6-8 seed in the playoffs.

Golden State has the worst chance because of there constant injuries. If Curry and Bogut dont play then they have no chance.

Memphis in my opinion have are going to struggle this year.  They almost have no bench. I will be curious to see how they do this season.

Minnesota will have a lot of question marks this season. If Roy knees are done for sure then they will have problems. Also AK hasnt played in the NBA in a while.

Utah is very young with Gordan Hayward and Alec Burks. Also they have problems at the PG spot with only Mo Williams. They are going to be good this season though.

I think teams with big front lines are going to give us some real problems. And unfortunately in our division, all the teams have good depth at the Center and PF positions.
Remember, OKC had to be bad for awhile before they got good. They were so bad, that there own City sold them to Oklahoma. Now look at them, they're an incredible basketball team.

Agreed.  Classic speed vs size...David vs Goliath, clearly what is necessitating the predicted uptempo offense.  Entertaining brand of basketball, unfortunately a brand that doesn't always translate to W's.  I'm for Chip Kelley having courtside seats by the Blazer bench and all expenses paid.

About 30-35 wins is my prognosis for the upcoming season. I feel like this year will be very reminiscent of 2007-07 where we won 32 games and lost 50 but had some highs along the way (5 game winning streak, LA & Roy in the Rookie game, etc). This rebuild isn't going to happen over night. Just be patient and continue to acquire good assets.

Huge waste of cash.   We''d be better off giving that money to 2 players making the veteran''s minimum.
