Morsel from coaching grapevine: Hearing Jay Triano will wind up on Terry Stotts' bench in Portland after ex-Raps HC was also chased by Mavs
Triano is the former Head Coach of the Toronto Raptors. He coached the Raps from 2009-2011 and ended up with an 87-142 overall record.

His teams in Toronto averaged 99 ppg (ranked 16th) in 2009, 104.1 ppg (ranked 5th) in 2010, and 99.1 ppg (ranked 17th) in 2011. Defensively, the Raptors gave up 101.9 ppg (ranked 20th) in 2009, 105.9 ppg (ranked 27th) in 2010, and 105.4 ppg (ranked 26th) in 2011.

I think he will help on the offensive side of things. Time will tell everything and usually it takes more time then most people want to wait..... but that's reality.

No offense to my co-bloggers but a 17th ranked offense and 26th ranked defense in his final coaching year, nice, fill holes, fit in, to me says yeah I honestly have no faith in this guy but I am trying to be nice. I for one am very disappointed in all the new coaching moves our team has made. I would like a coach who has shown through a winning record as a pro head coach that he belongs as a coach in the NBA. I would like some assistants who have a lot more to offer then these guys can show on paper, like a long NBA career or winning at least a division title from the second chair.

To me this is not reload and kick some tail, this is sad for high quality fans!
I feel that if we win it is not the coaching so much as the talent level of our team!

Sometimes coaches get players that arent coachable. Toronto has always been a bottom feeder. Its not like these guys coach to lose, they just happen to take jobs where their rosters didnt always follow through with their assignments. Players need to have the will to win. Coaches are just guidance councelors. They cant help what students they get.

Jose and Andrea have never been the greatest defenders. Also they have never had a bench. Its crazy when teams play terrible and are just plain bad teams the Coach always gets blamed.

One thing that seperates basketball from tennis or boxing is that it's a team sport. That goes for coaching staffs and execs as well. I think Neil has the right parameters for assembling players and staff. Loyalty and a great desire to be part of a promising franchise with one of the greatest fanbases in professional sports. We're sort of like the GreenBay Packers in that we're from a small market yet have put a championship together and had great teams. I like and respect Olshey and Stotts and trust their judgement when it comes to these decisions. 3 assistants with NBA playing experience and scouting experience. Kaleb could've gone anywhere this season but chose to stay on the staff of the guy he competed for the job with. That's rare in pro sports. Portland is not Toronto or Atlanta or LA...it's a different culture here and we have an owner who is willing to spend money for the future. We should be celebrating this transition instead of bashing it to pieces with doubt and negative affirmation

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
