This thread will be discussing the type of players that Portland needs to acquire to win a championship. Please do your best to avoid trade talk in this thread as we are only discussing the merits of particular players. If you have a trade suggestion or want to see a few names that will likely appear on this list in a few seasons check out the Off-Season Option C thread. I would also recommend checking out the Our New Style thread, which aims at discussing the games X's and O's. You might learn something or come up with an idea in those threads that deserves mention in here so please check them both out.

Rather than list off a ton of names all at once I will be covering just three at a time feel free to make additional suggestions but please back up your suggestions with analysis, stats, etc.

    Point Guards
Rajon Rondo- As good as I think Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Russel Westbrook are none of them would be my first choice for my franchise PG. Rondo may have a faulty jumper and struggle at the free throw line but the dude is a gamer. Outside of Lebron James, Rondo was the best player in the playoffs last year, even better than Durant. He raised his game to another level and had Boston a few blown calls away from going to the NBA finals. Here is a look at his post season numbers 17.3 PPG, 11.9 AST, 6.7 REB, 2.4 steals his shooting percentages were not great but that is only a minor complaint.

Why he deserves to be on the list- leadership despite the Celtics still be Garnett's team Rondo remains a vocal leader on the court. If his words were not enough, Rondo plays harder than anyone else on the court. Rondo uses his relentless motor on defense to great effect. He is one of the best defenders in basketball as he forces his opponents to taking tough shots and making bad decisions. Rondo is near the top of the steals list in the NBA but he rarely gambles, a trait usually associated with other members on the steals leader board. Rondo is not just great at locking up the opposing PG he is a versatile defender, which he showed against Miami guarding everyone from Mario Chalmers, to Dwayne Wade, to the much larger Lebron James.

Rondo makes everyone's job easier his great defense and versatility make everyone better on that end of the court, while his amazing ball handling and passing do the same for people on offense. Rondo could easily be a 20 point a night scorer if he wanted to but he is content taking around 10 shots a night and getting his teammates involved. It is this type of selfless play that makes him such a great teammate and leader. Effort does a lot of great things for you and Rondo has effort in spades. Rondo is 6'1 with shoes on yet he averaged more rebounds per game than 6'8" Nicolas Batum, that is what you can expect from Rajon Rondo and that is why he is my example of a franchise PG.

I agree. Rondo is a beast, but more importantly, a vocal leader. Id take him hands down over CP3,D.Will, and Nash.

Steve Nash- Despite never winning a title I would be hard pressed to come up with anyone I would rather have leading my team than a 38 year old Steve Nash. Nash is one of the hardest working players in the NBA, which is why at the age of the 38 he remains among the leagues best point guards. He is a gym rat and is always working hard to stay in shape and keep his game sharp.

Why he deserves to be on the list? Can you think of a man who has done more with less. Year after year he literally turned rags to riches in Phoenix. Nash is not going to wow you with his athletic ability but he is as fundamentally sound as they come. Nash despite being 38 and never being known for his defense Nash remains in the top 15 of PG's in term of defensive PPP. Nash is not on this list for his defense, but for his amazing passing, leadership, and efficiency. The 50-40-90 club is an exclusive club that Nash is a member of virtually every year. When he puts up a shot you know it is probably going in. I have the Lakers as my favorites to win the title this year because for the first time Nash will be surrounded by elite talent. Nash is the most fundamental player in basketball and he makes everyone around him better that is the role of a true leader and why I would take Nash on any team.

50 from the field,40 from three, and 90 at the lione. Thats impressive for a fossil. He's certainly in my opinion one of the best at his position to lace em up, but Rondo is still at the top of my wish list. If he works on his jumper and stays healthy, he's got action at catching the assists leader.

The last of trio of PG is a non traditional approach but is one who fits Blazer247 style of team.

George Hill- George is the epitome of a combo guard he is not quite tall enough to match up against some of the larger SGs and he is not the big assist guy you look for as a PG but what he does he does well. His shooting percentages are not going to wow anyone but he is solid from distance and won't force shots. He is the epitome of efficient with the ball as a full time start PG for Indiana last year he averaged almost 5 AST per game while only turning the ball over 1.1 times per game. He plays hard defense and ranks in the 60th percentile or higher against pick and roll, isolation, post up and spot up defense. Whether he is the starter or coming off the bench George Hill is someone I want on my team.  Apparently Indiana agreed with me giving him around 10 million a season over 5 years.

The next section will be centers and the three players I think are great models. Dwight Howard, Anthony Davis, Omer Asik are my choices if any of you agree with post why. If I get no replies I will post for each player like I did above.

I like the three PG's mentioned keeping Hill was smart for Indy but they gave him a lot of money.

I am looking forward to see why you chose Anthony Davis over someone like Duncan or Garnett.

Howard is obvious he plays hard and is a defensive force. Whenever you can get a multiple time Defensive Player of the year in their prime you do it. His rebounding ability and shot block allow you play almost any kind of player at the 4. I mean look at Orlando and the joke of a power forward Ryan Anderson. Even with his terrible FT% getting to the line over 10 times per game puts a lot of pressure on other teams. If Orlando had any talent outside of Howard they would have been scary.

I like Davis and hope he can become a similar player to Garnett which is why I added him. Also trying not to only add stars
