Don't you just love it when first-round talent falls into your lap at the 40th spot in the draft? I think we got ourselves one of those second-round steals! Can't wait to see how he does at the Las Vegas Summer League playing alongside Damian Lillard in the backcourt.

He was listed as a sg/sf at Memphis... The thing is he is only 175 pounds... He would need to beef up big time

He has a long wingspan and he can play anything from PG to Small Forward and yeah, I've been mentioning that if Batum isn't back, Will might be starting... well I told him that on twitter.  lol.  He didn't write back.

Many small forwards these days are hanging out at the 3 point line, so I wouldn't worry about Barton being a defensive liability and with his springs and reach, he can block some shots on the perimeter.

Barton really is a can-do-all... weakest part of his game might be his deep range and possibly defense, but he was conference player of the year and statistically, well, you're going to see him rebound like a small forward, shoot like a guard, pass like a point, and he'll get steals and blocks.  I just hope he's not a typical 2nd round pick of portland that doesnt' get much playing time, is forgotten, and then is ultimately traded.  that seems to happen with everyone.  cunningham I think was a recent 2nd rounder I liked that same thing happened to.

I just dunno what portland's gonna do without batum b/c he's the best SF on the free agent market, so if we want to improve, we have to trade.

Greg Anthony was pimping thim before the draft big time, said he is going to be a steal.... Anyone who watched Memphis last year had to be impressed with #5, he was everywhere and scores in a variety of moves.

Lillard and Barton is going to be fun to watch for sure toghether.

Is EWill going to be cleared to play?

I was thinking he could put in some minutes at the 3.

Can you imagine Lillard, E-Will, and Barton on the court at the same time? That's a combination of running, leaping, and scoring that Portland hasn't had in a while.

Am I the only one that thinks his highlight reels look better than Dion Waiters'? I bet anything Waiters will be a bust and Barton will be a nice steal.

He will be outweighed on average by 30 lbs if he plays at the small for us.  Sure he's speedy...but an undersized rookie filling in at 3 for us will not be fruitful.

...that's not to say I'm not happy to have him or excited to see what he can do.  He will be best slotted for some 2 time behind E will.  We must address the 3 in other ways if we want to be successful.  Don't forget about Victor Claver.  That guy is more a true 3 that hopefully will be here.

Barton should be back up to Wes this season. Just like Rudy was to Roy. He should get about 15-16 minuets a game. I like him way more than E Williams. I am excited for next season. GO BLAZERS

Sorry, Siccolo, but we barely scratched the surface when it came to E-Will's potential. I wouldn't bet on a rookie ahead of him.

Just to clarify, strength has very little to do with perimeter play, which means about 80% of the SFs in the league could be guarded by a guy like Barton. For those few that have a great post-up game, just don't match him up with them. I'm not saying he should start at the 3, just play some minutes there.

I heard E- will be able to play. lol

i was stoked when portland took barton b/c with about 15 picks to portland's pick, my short list had draymond and barton.  when they announced in the chatroom portland was taking barton, I thought they were joking.  he never shoulda slid to 40.  awesome.

about you guys talking where barton will play, he's very versatile... he can even play the point if need be.  He'll backup matthews, and if batum's not back, he could start.... i expect both memphis tigers will be on the court simultaneously at times and they'll have some fun kickin butt together.

I wouldn't expect that all of Barton's minutes are in one specific position, but don't sell him short just cuz he's only listed at like 6-6.  The dude has a long wingspan and he uses his length to his advantage... he is very aggressive and, well, you'll see.  He'll have no problem starting at SF if batum's not back ... he'll show his minutes are much more valuable than babbitt's.... sorry to Luke, but right now luke's pretty one-dimensional and he's more valuable coming in off the bench.

He's been anything but thrilling in summer league. He can't finish. And it certainly won't get easier in the regular season.

Now that I think about it, I do remember hearing his name during the big Dance and I don't follow the college game outside of that, so I'm really excited that we have him and I'm encouraged by what he's done in LV and your statement Dustin, that he is a steal.
