    Where to start?

    Management? Coaching Staff? Fans? Regurgitators(journalists)?

If you have a coach that you are behind and whom has a system in place then you recruit players that will fit into there system.

If you are a coach with a plan than you hire assitants who will help develop unknown talent into your system.

If this system fails over the coachs duration of there contract then he must be able to adapt to different variables,if he can not then he should be out on his arse along with the training staff that he hired.

Problem with Nate was he was not able manage players minutes. He over played his star players because he had no confidance in his back ups(or no confidence in his own coaching abilities),hence come playoff time Portland were always FLAT.

    Back to Mills.

A class character with skills to back it up(in the right system).

During his time at Portland I would have to say that he slipped from #1 to #3 in Australian Point Guards.

    Fans

There are some great fans at Portland but there are also a lot of frustrated fans who are always looking for the easiest targets.

Before you trash players you must give them the tools to perform and if they have that and they still continue to let you down then be my guest. But Mills was a player who was always up against it,any lesser individual's NBA career would be over.He was injured in his last year at St Marys and upon his return (first game back) against Gonzaga he lead the team to victory over Stephen Curry whom had been playing and was in form.

Naturally his ranking slipped and was drafted in 2nd rnd by Portland,in which he missed the season due to as I recall a broken leg before season start.Following year he is ready to play and sits on the bench knowing he may never get minutes to play so he becomes the ultimate team supporter.Gets dropped to D league for playing time and in two game shows that he is a class above everyone else,he is then returned to NBA so he can once again rot on the bench. He in my opinoin was only returned because management did noy want other NBA teams to see his talent in the D league.Nate had no use for him but management were concerned another NBA franchise might.

Then you get some idiot making a statement like he can't play defence because he played a couple of minutes in garbage time when Portland were getting hammered(like as if he is going to make any differece under those circumstances)Then some other idiot repeats the comment and he is stigmatised(Just because you repeat someting over and over does not make it true).Ask Tim Duncan,Tony Parker the first thing that they point out about Patty is;not his towell waiving abilities, nor his infectiuos great attitude, nor his shooting but wait for it ...HIS DEFENCE.

Hey!Terry Porter,do you still prefer Armon Johnson of Patty Mills.
    Aussie,Aussie,Aussie Go,Go,Go

PORTLAND management should learn from San Antonio.

At least you now have a coach with BALLS,my guess is he won't be there next year.

    Good Luck.

I think we can all agree that a lot of young guys didn't get the shot they deserved under Nate. I like Mills. I liked seeing him on the court. He's fast, brings a lot of energy and can shoot outside at a decent clip. I'm disappointed on a more personal level because he was just a cool guy on and off the court. I know he's better than he played in Portland so I feel good about him going somewhere else and getting a chance to flourish a bit. I don't feel a sting because he didn't fit in Portland at the time and I wish him the best!

Just think Portland could have kept Patty Mills and drafted Kenneth Faried instead of Nolan Smith. But what do I know.

IT'S EASY TO HAVE 22-22 VISION IN HINDSIGHT--BUT HAVING SAID THAT, I SURE WISH THAT WE HAD PATTY CAKES INSTEAD OF SAN ANTONIO--HE'S ACTUALLY PLAYING AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE TEAM! WE MISS HIM HERE AND SURE WISH THAT THE INTERUM GM COULD'VE DONE SOMTHING BEFORE IT WAS TOO LATE (GETTING PATTY BACK). TONIGHT, WE'LL CHEER CAMBY WHEN HE'S INTRODUCED AND LET HIM KNOW THAT WE MISS HIS BLOCKS AND REBOUNDS! GO BLAZERS!

everywhere Patty has played in the past year, he's fit in right away. he joined the Melbourne Tigers of the NBL (australia) and ended leading them in scoring; he joined the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the CBL (china) and immediately had some monster games for them; and now he's doing the same thing for the spurs -- making an immediate impact.

Patty can adapt to any team and any situation. that seems to be his strength. the only problem is, when you have a coach who all but refuses to play him, he's not going to get a chance to showcase his talents. thanks to Nate, he never truly got that chance in portland, despite the fact he's gotten it everywhere else.

Nate is a coach that needs veterans he can rely on because he was absolutely terrible at developing young talent.

I cringed when the Blazers chose Smith just ahead of Faried...I believe you almost always draft the best player available,Nolan Smith was not even close. It would have been nice to have the manimal out there with Batum at shooting guard.I feel like I'm always saying "could have" when referring to the Blazers. We need a solid GM with a winning philosophy to stick with.First step in the right direction was getting rid of Nate...the guy was afraid to experiment with players and line ups....wearing down the starters.
I am a fan of Batum taking fewer three's and dicovering the mid range!

The problem with JJ remains the same at the 4 or 5 he is just not a good enough defender. Milsap and especially Smith are good defenders. The also both offer more on the offensive side than JJ does.

Howard would be fine if he was the same player he was in Orlando, but his back has really slowed him down and he is no longer the most dominant center in the league. His offense was always trying to dunk on people and getting fouled he has not imp...

Exactamundo. Seriously though, both of you''ll are right. The blame should be placed on the attacker, not Lillard. That being said, Dame should have stepped in.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn''t see much court time and from what I saw didn''t real...

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.
