Earlier this morning, I read an article that shocked me the most. The title of the article is Pardon His French, but Batum is honest. As his biggest fans, I was curious of what is it about. So, I ended up putting my stuff aside and take a time to read this article. Once I finished reading it, I felt that it was one of the greatest moment of my life to see how a young player is mature enough to handle different kind of situation. I am turning nineteen in less than a month and seeing someone who is five years older than me able to do that kind of stuff, made me feel that I need to be a better person. I need to be like him. He is like a role model for me. Not for his basketball talent but for his character and how he treats people.

    Nicolas Batum, Portland Trail Blazers

The main reason why I love him as a player is (1) because he is young and (2) he has a good character. I never heard him complaining coming off the bench even though he plays better than the starter. I never saw him got angry to other people. I never saw him fighting with other players. I never saw him trash-talking. I played basketball when I was in high school. So I know exactly which player has a good character, and which player doesn’t have one. But honestly speaking, Batum is a player with a tremendous character. If NBA All-Star players are determined based on their attitude on the court, I bet Batum is the strongest candidate to be an All-Star.

The article is an eye-opening for me. The writer shows how pure and honest Batum is. Throughout his comment during the interviews, how he respects them and he gives them eye-contact are a solid evidence to prove that he is a player with an attitude. If I’m the reporter, I would not mind interviewing him after games. Indeed, there is a language barrier between him and others but at least he shows us some respect. Indeed, he is not the best player on the team, but at least he knows how to treat other well. Besides, he is a great player overall. He recorded a back-to-back double-double, he played well offensively and defensively, he rebounded the ball, and he plays with his heart.

Looking back at the time where he scored his career high with 9 3′s, he said that he was able to do that just because the team helped him. Just because he was wide open instead of saying that he is a good player who can shoot the ball. Fast it forward to ten days later, during the Valentine’s day, where he tied his career high, he said that he felt sorry for his team just because he took too many shots. It shows that he has a genuine heart and he is not a type of player who think he is good and everyone needs him.

First time I heard Felton was mocked due to his late turnover that caused a loss against Utah, I was kind of upset with the other Blazers fans. I just feel that people make mistakes. Indeed, it is Felton’s fault but cursing him is not the right thing to do. However, after I saw Felton’s attitude with the media, I began to reflect to myself and I asked this question to myself, “Does he deserve to be defended?” When Batum did the meaningless late layup against Minnesota, he directly apologizes to the Minnesota. He honestly said that he was sorry and he would not do it again.

A true hero is the person who has a pure heart. A true hero knows how to treat people well. A true hero would not  think they are better than others. For me, Batum is a true hero. He has the quality and one day, people will recognize it and appreciate it. I’m glad Batum is playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, if not, I would not know him. I would not have someone to look up to as a role model.

Thanks Ricky.   I''ll be watching @ 10.   Haven''t seen enough right hand from Shazamm.   Without the ability to take his defender either way off the bounce, let alone finish at the cup with either hand?   Second rounder at best.

Sug81 I love Iggy but this team has numerous gaping holes throughout the depth chart so signing Iggy is not the best way to spend our limited funds
