    Via Chris Haynes - CSNNW
Agent: Shawne Williams Will Not Accept Buyout From Blazers
“We talked about the possibility of a buyout, but we decided it just wouldn't make sense for us,” Williams' agent Happy Walters told CSNNW.com. “Shawne is continuing to rehab right now and he's excited to be a Blazer.”
On top of that, Williams has a player option for next year that pays him $3.1 million and Walters says there are many variables that will decide if Williams chooses to utilize that option.

“It will depend on the coach and the GM situation,” Walters said. “We have time to make up our mind, but we'll wait and see what happens with those situations first.”
Walters says Wiliams is expected to arrive in Portland in the next couple of weeks and will be 100 percent by the summer.

If he won't take the buyout then use him in trade with Matthews and one of our 2012 2nd rounders.

I just hope he opts out of his contract but that won't happen as he wants to get paid

Even if we do not buy out his contract we can still trade him or even waive him. If we are not going to keep him on the roster we still have plenty of options.

My question is who the hell is he?  Are we sure that he won't do us any good?  We need depth at the 3.  His stats show that he's a decent defender.  But there is this:

On September 11, 2007, Williams was arrested in Indianapolis, Indiana on a charge of possession of marijuana. Two passengers in Williams' car were also arrested. One was charged with possession of marijuana, the other was charged with possession of a stolen handgun.[6][7]

In January 2010, Williams was arrested in Memphis on felony drug charges for selling a codeine substance. Williams later pleaded guilty in April to misdemeanor drug possession. He was placed on six months' probation, ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing, attend a drug offender school and make a $10,000 contribution to the Shelby County Drug Treatment Court. His legal situation cleared up quickly.

    Hmmm...

I was with you at first Posted, about wondering who he is and if he could help us after looking at the statline, but then looking at what you linked about the criminal history, I'd say he is an absolute "no we do not want him in a blazer uniform".

The pot possession doesn't worry me, I will be the first one to stand up in support of marijuana legalization (way less harmful dangerous to your body and the safety of those around you than tobacco, or alcohol, or pharmaceutical painkillers). But if he's driving someone around with a stolen gun, AND has had felony charges for SELLING harder drugs (yes, even codeine is a much harder/more dangerous substance than marijuana), that is an absolute dealbreaker. Even seeing that the charge was reduced to possession (because he has money and paid his way out?) doesn't help his case. I'm not interested in Shawne Williams as a Blazer.

That's the whole point Tobyus...we might be stuck with..."who?"  Or at least with his money he is owed under our cap.

He had problems but fixed them.  Healthy, he is an asset and should be a part of the plan.  Aldridge is not going to lead any team that far - he needs solid players around him, and Shawne will be that with health.

Shawne is not an asset and Portland if they cannot trade him might want to consider using the stretch provision for the extra 2 million in cap space.

Wow, how is he making 3 million a year? We must trade him we don't want the start of another jailblazer era. Just trade him for a second round pick if you have to save cap space.

For a second round pick sounds good, but who in their right mind wants this guy. I say package him with Jamal,Babbitt ,the Whino and some cash for an opportunity to acquire another first round pick. The we can pick up Lillard,Drummond, and Leonard.

Cmeese is right. All of these guys will make way more money. There will be other teams offering to buy them as well. Damian, try to settle on one roster a week or something man.
