Portland is 2-6 in their last 8 home games after starting out 11-1. Can they get the mojo back at the RG over the final 13 game?

Trail Blazers (18-18) vs. Timberwolves (18-19)

Rick Adelman and Terry Porter return to Portland with the surprise of the NBA season under their watch. The Timberwolves have already won more games this season (18) than they did all of last year (17). And even for a young team, the Wolves are a respectable 8-9 away from the Target Center, even sweeping the Clippers at Staples, so they aren't just feeding off of the bottom feeders. This will be the first of three matchups against Minnesota during the month of March and a lot is at stake for the Trail Blazers if they have hopes of playing in May. Not only is Portland riding a 16-game winning streak against Minnesota but only a half-game separates the two teams -- both battling for the eight and final playoff spot out West.

The big matchup everyone will be looking at is Aldridge v. Love. An argument can be made for either as the best power forward in the NBA today.  Love, a walking double-double, is putting up staggering averages of 24.5 points and 13.7 rebounds. But against the Trail Blazers, it hasn't been smooth sailing for the former Lake Oswego Laker. In nine contests against Portland, Love is putting up just 12.3 points and 10.1 rebounds. It nearly impossible to keep Kevin off the glass as he just has an innate sense of where the ball is going to carom off the rim, but Aldridge's length really bothers Love in the post. The change-up will be if Love decides to play further away from the basket, taking LA all the way out to the three-point line. The reigning three-point champ has the ability to hit from distance, but the Trail Blazers would welcome Love lurking on the perimeter instead of keeping possessions alive with his offensive rebounding ability.

A full 48 minutes. This is what the Trail Blazers need to bring against the Wolves. They played two and half great quarters of basketball but stumbled to the finish line against the Clippers two weeks ago. For the first six minutes of the Miami game, Portland looked like a completely different team, racing out to an eight-point lead and taking it right to the Heat. But they've just not been able to sustain a complete game. Use the crowd's energy and attack, attack, attack. Portland needs to get to the free-throw line a minimum of 25 times Saturday. Minnesota doesn't possess and intimidating force down low to deter Portland from living in the paint, so don't be shy about forcing it down low to Aldridge and Wallace.

The X-Factor will be the bench play. Minnesota got 27 apiece from Beasley and Williams in their comeback win in Los Angeles against the Clippers a few games ago and along with those two, J.J. Barea, whom Trail Blazers fan are accustomed to by now, is capable of taking over offensively. So it will be up to Wesley Matthews to continue to hot play off the bench and Joel Przybilla to inspire the team with his hard-nosed, take-no-prisoners mind set.

Here's Toby's keys to the game

    - Play hard (Turnovers)

    - Get mean (Opponent FG %)

    - More Dunks (Points in the paint)

I say we lose.  I have no faith in this team anymore.  If I didn't have so much passion for the game, I'd have stopped watching by now and wait the season out. No playoffs this year.  Likely hovering around .500 the entire season, going below and above it by about 2 games every now and then.  Before March 15th we trade Felton and Wallace and Camby, all expiring contracts.  Felton has proven he doesn't play well with Portland.  Wallace doesn't give a crap 60% of the time.  And Camby is so old he forgot how to box out and just goes for Rebounds that fall near him.

Trade Wallace and Felton for Nash.  Let Camby's contract expire or trade him for a high draft pick.   Put some money into getting draft picks.  Resign Batum.

Minnesota is on the uprise, and Portland is sliding down.  They want it more than Portland.   I say Minnesota wins a close one.

Here we see two teams going in opposite directions. The T-wolves have a bright future. The Blazers...well...at least they have Aldridge.

    Go Wolves.

I take back my blog post about Lamarcus. What in the world happened to mister all-star? He looked like he was looking for Roy out there.

so damn right Herr. Poor season with such good names. But names don't play.
I would also change coach, Nate cannot go above some middle level of coaching and this season he is absolutely lost in space.

Another rough game. This team just isn't on the same page. One game Aldridge will dominate but Wallace will be quiet and tonight for example Wallace and Batum are beating but Aldridge was quiet. Sometimes they look energized and sometimes they don't. I really think its going to be tough to make this postseason with this difficult 7 game road trip coming up.

One major bright spot has been Elliot Williams. He recorded the highest +/- of any Blazer with +10 -- Ray Felton had the second-highest with +2. I just love the excitement E-Will brings to the court and he's always moving around on the court looking for slashing lanes.

I was bummed that we lost....however I think the major problem is our pace when we are fast paced up & down the court Gerald Wallace plays better. This is Wallace's first full year here & we had a lockout, I think if Brandon would have stayed we wouldn't be having this problem.
Personally I think Felton needs to go, he's complaining to the media about coach.  Whether his complaints are correct or not, that should have never made the public forum..this type of stuff undermines a teams moral.  It takes one bad apple to corrupt them all.
I say they trade Felton & maybe Camby, the rest of the team will work they just need to find their flow.
People need to remember we lost Brandon Roy, Oden still isn't playing & with the lockout Crawford never got any training camp & Lamarcus had heart surgery right before the season finally started.
I guess I'm just trying to point out they have potential it's just off track & I don't think we should scrap the entire team, just get rid of out unhappy whiner.
Just my opinon of course. :)
I am a fan of backing my team win or lose, we can still turn it around.

    First-time poster, welcome aboard sportslady20!

I agree with your statement about Roy and Oden. In a perfect world, they would be healthy and would form one of the most devastating Big 3's alongside Aldridge. But you can't miss on a #1 pick and then lose your 3-time All-Star and not expect a step back...that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

it was really step back ...after good start and solid middle of season , now we are palying awfull, I don't know what is the main problem ? is it Felton or Wallace, Camby ? ( I mean their poor efforts) or Nate ? it is really bad time but as I AM fun of Blazers I still believe, maybe our team can put together and wins straight some games, maybe ...

@ Tobyus . Short memory on Martell. He had game about every 10 games and to this date Luke has had no more than 3 mins at a shot. Martell's inconsistancy was what got him traded. Martell was overrated and overpaid hw got playing time because Batum was not ready and got the starting position because Udoka? got traded. Udoka got traded because his offensive prowess matched Joel's ..at best. So Martell brought his game the other night he probably cant put it back to back. As far as Luke goes I am not sure that we will ever know how good or bad he is until he plays against us

The problem with JJ remains the same at the 4 or 5 he is just not a good enough defender. Milsap and especially Smith are good defenders. The also both offer more on the offensive side than JJ does.

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.
