Source is from the Oregonian....  Blazers with get a partial season out of Greg after the lockout ends but I'm still a little bummed that he won't be around longer.

Blazers *will get a partial season.........  Trade options are enticing but his value is low because his assumed risk is high.

Well then Oden should be put in a trade with Indiana for Roy Hibbert. I think that both teams could do well in trade which the two centers are swapped.

I don't see anyone trading for Greg Oden unless its for a similar risk or older player. Maybe for a young untalented player like Aaron Gray? I just don't see it happening. Might as well roll the dice with Greg and hope he can become a monster again.

I don't want him to leave. What's up with that? He just doesn't like Portland?

    Guys, pleeeease... stop spreading rumors.

Look at the article, and click the link on the last line where it talks about Oden becoming an "unrestricted free agent". This takes you to a new article, and this is where this rumor starts, not the article that MiketheMichael linked to us.

Now, look at this original article from OregonianLive. See the name who wrote it? JOHN CANZANO. Canzano is the biggest rumormill on the air in Portland, he's known for being that guy that will make outrageous claims because it GETS HIM RATINGS. He has nothing to do with the Portland Trailblazers, he's not inside the organization whatsoever, and his motivation is NOT about helping the team, it's about stirring up controversy. OF COURSE HE'LL SAY THAT ABOUT ODEN! It's a lot more interesting to talk about then if he assured us that Greg is comfortable here.

What's more, he BARELY even mentions Oden! This article is Canzano moaning about how the Blazers need to find a GM because we won't be able to take advantage of our position without someone running the show. He talks about Paul Allen, he talks about the lockout, he talks about potential GM's, then he briefly mentions Roy and Oden, our two stars who are in controversial/unclear spots in their career, and he goes for the easy conversation starters: Roy's salary and Oden's injuries and contract. Notice, he never mentions Aldridge, Wallace, Batum, or any other player that could be seen as attractive to a potential GM in Portland. Cuz hoping for the future or being optimistic just doesn't get as high of ratings as talking about doom and gloom! Don't believe me? Just turn on the news.

Bottom line: there's approximately 15 paragraphs in Canzano's article. Greg Oden is mentioned ONCE. There's no quote from Oden or anyone in his camp, just Canzano claiming that Greg Oden "feels" like he'll do this. It's nothing new guys! We've known this was a potential option for Oden from Day 1...

NOTHING HAS CHANGED just because one radio personality blogs about it and then some other schmuck journalist writes a mini-article based off one paragraph... and he's writing for Yahoo Sports! AND he's writing the article that Mike linked in a section called "Scoop Du Jour - Trade News...Injuries...Transactions...Rumors" It's right there in his title! Imitation-journalist Mark J Miller is openly admitting that he's just stirring up rumors, and getting em straight from Portland's leading expert in that field! Seriously, this is like gradeschoolers spreading he-said-she-said around a playground. Can we please not look at articles with the word 'Rumor' in the title, or if you have to read them can ya take it for what it's worth? Just a 3rd party journalist trying to cause a stir. NOT a legitimate opinion from any Blazer or anyone having to do with the team.

Can we get back to basketball please? Forget all the rumors and talk during this lockout, forget thinking ahead about trades. Whether anyone stays or goes, we've still got OUR Blazers. I'd like to enjoy that when our season starts, as opposed to spending a shorter season thinking about the next one.

Canzano is not one of my favorites. Matter of fact he should be "traded" to another city to be a sportwriter. Doubt anyone would want him though. He has little basketball wisdom, AND, that should be pretty important criteria if you are in Portland, OR. I agree with above comment by Blazer247

I hope we keep Greg. Don't give a damn what anyone says about him.

Great to hear that it was a rumor! I hope Oden stays in Portland till he retires. I also hope he comes back strong and healthy like most others.

just sayin guys, as fans, when someone posts a link to an article that CLAIMS something like this, as fans the absolute LAST thing we should be doin is talking trades! And you guys did it immediately, there wasn't a single question or doubt! The first response on this thread was one hour after the original post, and it starts with "that being the case we should trade him asap..." i'm not calling anyone out but did ANYONE want to ask questions about this? It scares me a bit that true fans of this team would approach it in the way they'd approach a videogame or fantasy-league team, just lookin at the numbers and quickly goin to the trade option, instead of thinking about all the variables that don't translate to paper and stats.

Just an fyi, I've been a huge Blazer fan since I was growing up here, and I've been reading these boards and checkin the site for YEARS... but I never found the motivation to sign up and start commenting myself, until THIS thread. When the comments first started comin up about trades, I tried to sign up, but couldn't get the confirmation to work so kinda began to let it go. I was hoping that someone would be the voice of reason (Kassandra and all you other Faithful Fans, WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU!?), but instead all I saw were more replies about making a trade. So yes, I have you guys to thank for finally gettin myself on the site, but it's only because it was THAT disturbing to me that not one of you spoke up in Oden's defense.
Remember how amazing he was when he was healthy? Remember what an explosive difference he made on the court?!? Before anyone says "yeah but he's too injured and will never play enough to be worth it", you should take a look at the list of NBA players who have had the same injuries, received surgery (that would've been less advanced than what Oden gets now), and then went on to have successful NBA careers. A few names from the list: John Stockton, Brian Grant, Jason Kidd, Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin (multiple surgeries, and believed to be the first NBA player to have BOTH knees operated on), Amare Stoudamire... plenty names in there that would still be considered legitimate threats if the Blazers had to play against them.
Even outside the NBA, this is not that uncommon of an injury for baseball or football athletes, but it's really not considered something that is a definite career-ender. Plus each year, the sports doctors and high-end surgery techniques are getting more refined and less invasive, meaning less recovery time and a higher % chance of a FULL recovery. So why are we acting like Oden (or Roy) has nothing left to give to Portland? Instead of bailing instantly on the star athletes who have done so much for our city and our team, i think it's our DUTY as fans to give them our faith as long as possible, and our hope and support that they pull through the bumpy parts of the road to emerge on the other side, still Blazers, and cheered on by the best fans in the league.

I 100% agree. Some Blazer fans can be very fair weather. How could anyone talk smack about Roy? After all he's done? Why would anyone put Oden down, he hasn't even been given a chance? It strike a chord it me that irritates. The players feed off our support. We gotta stand up and support them. Glad you made your point. My initial comment wasn't directed to be negative towards Greg, I would just feel cheated if we lost him, we haven't even gotten to see him play! I went to his best game vs Chicago and he played pretty good I mean give these guys a chance.

I respect opinions to a degree but blatant rudeness, negativity and what not really bothers me. Stirring up controversy and being overly critical is not cool either, there is a fine line there. Constructive criticism is ok.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...
