    #3 Jim Paxson (23)

    #6 Rod Strickland (19)
     45%

    BURNSIDE REGION
#3 Jim Paxson vs. #6 Rod Strickland

    No. 4 Jim Paxson | Guard/Forward | 6-6 | 210 lbs
    Written By Casey Holdahl
    Career Stats As A Trail Blazer: 29.3 mpg, 16.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.3 spg, 1.1 bpg  50.3 FG%, 23.0 3PT %,  80.4 FT %

It is widely acknowledged that Bill Walton and Clyde Drexler are the two greatest Trail Blazers (though this bracket may eventually change that!). Without Walton, there would be no championship in 1977. And without Drexler, those two trips to the NBA Finals would have gone to another Western Conference team in 1990 and 1992.

But in-between those two icons, there was Jim Paxson. He didn't carry the team alone -- nor did Walton or Drexler -- but he, along with Mychal Thompson, keep the Trail Blazers afloat and in the playoffs through the 80's. He lead the team in scoring in his second season and proceed to be one of the team's leading scorers until Kiki Vandeweghe and Drexler came on in the mid-80's.

Paxson shows up 11 times on the franchise Top 10 list thanks to playing eight solid years in Portland. Ranking third in field goals made (4,058), fourth in steals (857) and fifth in games (627) and points (10,003) cements his place among the all-time Blazers. But it's possible his ,standing as tenth all-time in field goal percentage (.503), despite playing on the wing, might be his most impressive achievement.

    Schonely Speaks:
"With or without the ball, wherever it was on the floor, Paxson was there. If it was loose, he could find it. And when he found it. He would score."

    No. 1 Rod Strickland | Point Guard | 6-3 | 185 lbs
    Written By Casey Holdahl
    Career Stats As A Trail Blazer: 33.7 mpg, 16.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 8.2 apg, 1.6 spg, 1.1 bpg  47.2 FG%, 32.7 3PT %,  71.4 FT %

Rod Strickland played less than five full season in Portland, and yet, he is fourth all-time in franchise history in assists with 2,501. The three players above him (Terry Porter, Clyde Drexler and Damon Stoudamire) all played far more games as Trail Blazers. And of those, only Porter could be considered a "true point guard."

If you're voting based off of which Trail Blazer had the best NBA career, Strickland would surely be higher than a sixth seed, especially considering he's ninth all-time in the NBA in assists (7,987). You could argue he's the best point guard the Trail Blazers have ever had, but less playing only 312 games takes some of the venom out of that claim. Then again, he packed a whole lot of assists into those 312.

    Schonely Speaks:
"Quick as a fly. Smart. Ran the team. He could pass. If you needed the ball, Rod would get it to you."

I went with Rod Strickland. Neither player really helped get the team deep into the playoffs but Strick surprisingly matched Paxson in scoring average and rebounding all while putting up over 5 more assists per game. 16 & 8 over a 5-year career is no joke.

i never saw Paxson play, but while his scoring average3 is similar, he scored 21.5 ppg, over two seasons before Drexler got here. it seems to be like Drexler's play kind of phased out Paxson (didn't they play the same position?). Stickland's assists were impressive, but he was not the leader that Paxson was. gotta go with Paxson here.

Yes, Drexler and Paxson played basically the same position, which is another reason why we passed on Jordan, because we had Drexler AND Paxson. Strick was legit though. I still remember him leading a pretty mediocre Blazers team back to the playoffs and giving a talented Jazz team all they could ask for in the 96 first round, going all 5 games.

15-14 for Paxson? Man, this one's going down to the wire. I had to go with Rod because he was probably our second greatest point guard of all-time behind Terry Porter. He was just so lightning quick and found the cracks in the defense to get to the rack.

Splitter would fill our needs the best. Pekovic isn''t great defensively but a solid rebound and a muscle man who would do decent. Al Jefferson is a less polished LMA with not as good defence and his rebounding is decreasing.

I was looking at some shooting stats and came across a very very alarming stat. LMA was the league leader in FGA from 16-23 feet. Not only was he the leader he was lead by a mile. His 7.3 attempts from this distance easily outpaced Demar Derozan w...

Sug I would start with him outscoring Wesley Matthews. He also needs to get his FTA up and his FG% up and cut down the turnovers.
