Incase you haven't heard, Kevin Pritchard was on the Morning Sports Page this morning on our 95.5 The Game. During the interview he said "Just because we aren't AT the lottery doesn't mean we aren't going to be IN the lottery." He followed that by saying he wasn't making any promises, but he also isn't afraid to make things happen if it is in the best interest of the team. I am not sure what all this means, maybe nothing, but either way it means the excitement has already started. The talks have begun and I am almost giddy in my ignorance. I still am not that interested in much of the draft prospects this year but the fact that KP is talking makes me intrigued and a really excited. Again, I love our team, but in KP I trust when it comes to the Blazers. P.S. Kudos on getting Pen to stick around!

I like the idea of possibly drafting Jrue Holiday. If we can get far enough up in the draft i think Holiday would make our backcourt better. He is good on defense and is an intelligent decision maker. He is more like Jerryd Bayless than Steve Blake. He is more of a combo scoring guard but has enough skills to play both pass very well and score. He didnt have a great season at UCLA so we might be able to get him in the latter part of the lottery. He is almost 19 so he is very young but plays alot more mature than his age. Meaning he dosent make mistakes.
Tyreke Evans could be a steal in this years draft also. He is a great scorer who can play both the 1 and 2 guard spots. He is a underrated defender and is very quick. He can defend quick point guards and shooting guards. He would be an OJ Mayo type player. Would be a great fit if we decide that Martell's injury is possibly career threatning.
My favorite choice is James Harden. I think that he is the least likely to land in Portland but he is probably the best fit. 1. He is extremely unselfish and has amazing passing skills for a scorer of his caliber. He can score with a great shot and can drive to the basket. He is very similar to Brandon Roy in terms of unselfishness and ability to make plays for others. He is a very smart player and knows how to play to his advantages.

On BFT today they were talking about making a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies to EITHER get Conley for fairly cheap, or possibly pay too much to get their second pick and draft Rubio. Granted, this was pure speculation from Canzano and listeners, but it makes sense. I personally agree with Canzano that we would have to give up way too much in order to take Rubio, who is a fairly unknown commodity and another project guard, where as we could get a good starter in Conley for much less and get to benefeit this coming season rather than having to wait three more years and risk missing our window to win a championship. Not to mention getting Conley could help Oden's confidence level and make him feel more comfortable which could pay HUGE dividens for the Blazers.

I dont think we should get Conley for Oden. I think Signing somebody like Andre Miller would help him alot more than his friend. I think we should sign Miller and draft a PG to groom under Miller. Conley isnt better than Blake and definetly not better than Andre Miller so i dont see how bringing him to our team is going to get us a ring. Or even deeper in the playoffs. He just dosent make us better.

I don't know, the way Canzano was talking about him he seemed to be pretty high on him. Plus, Andre Miller would cost us financially a lot more than getting Conley. Conley is still growing, I mean this was only his second season. So he fits into that youth, talent, longevity movement. Granted, the problem is that Bayless then gets shafted a little bit. The other thing I heard this morning on MSP is that there are rumors of Portland making a play at Steve Nash. That was apparently reported in a Phoenix newspaper. What could that do in developing Bayless or even improving Blake? Would that be worth investing in, or again is that too much financially hurting our ability to resign our own guys?

Im just not a huge Conley guy. I read a report done by Marc Stein on ESPN.com that said that the Suns would probably want Jerryd Bayless and Travis Outaw. Wouldnt it be interesting to get Shaq in that deal and give them Przybilla. Shaq would be a good mentor to Oden and would do alot better in our offense compared to the Suns really uptemo style. It makes sense for us and them. The Suns are probably looking to rebuild and Amare will probably leave next summer. As for us we are looking to win and the addition of these 2 guys would put us as one of the favorites this season. With the number of second round picks we have and how we all know KP likes to draft internationial players. I think we could draft some guys and keep them overseas and wait to bring them over. What do you think??

I wouldn't give up Joel for Shaq. He wouldn't be effective here and I will tell you why. It's too darn cold too much of the year. Shaq, at his age, needs a dry, warm climate in order to stay effective. I wish I was joking, but I am being completely serious. The air in Miami was too think for him because of the humidity, that is why he wasn't as effective down there as he is in Phoenix. The climate in Phoenix allows him to breath better and move more freely. Portland would take all that away from him. Plus I like Joel. It would be a major slap in the face if we traded him for a rusty buick after he took a LOT less money to play here instead of San Antonio. The risk/reward does not work out in Portland's favor on the Shaq deal. As far as Bayless/Outlaw to get Nash, I would only do that if they also plan on trading with Memphis for either the rights to Rubio at the #2 pick or Mike Conley. I know you aren't high on him, but he is young, coachable, and if he studies under Nash AND McMillan he should get a good balance of PG skills and Defense to be the PG of the future for Portland.

I think KP should go after Ricky Rubio this guy is a heck of a players. He has been playing pro ball since he was 13 or 14 this guy is ready to play hes a mic between Nash and Pistol Pete i think if we get Rubio we are set for the Pg position. It will also make it easier for Roy with Rubio at the point KP go after Rubio!!!

See, everything I've heard from the guys covering him from the US say he's still 2-3 years from being a great NBA PG. He's still a project. For about the same price you could get Nash to train whatever PG you have waiting in the wings for two years and win now AND later. I don't think the key is to get Rubio, but rather get a veteran PG to train the ones we already have. Maybe Nash and Blake are our 1 & 2 PG then we bring Koponen over to train a year or two until Nash retires. It benefeits Blake, the Blazers, and Koponen. It solves the issue of who is our starter now, and who are we going to have for the future. Granted Koponen is no Bayless, but to get Nash it might be worth it to send a Bayless and Outlaw down there with our first round pick. That MIGHT get Nash, I doubt it would get Rubio. He is probably the most expensive project to come in the NBA.

why in the world would we draft Jrue Holliday? if you say he's like Jerryd Bayless well we already have a guy whose like Jerryd Bayless and thats Jerryd Bayless! James Harden would fit our system because he is exactly like Brandon Roy only Roy is better than Harden. Harden is good but we dont need him enough to give up what its going to take to get him.

If you read all the posts i put on this topic i also thought we should trade Bayless and Trout for Nash. I think he is a better PG prospect than Bayless. Jrue has the skills to play both as a scoring guard and as a pass first guy. Jerryd is known basically as a scorer. He hasnt had much chance to prove that he can pass but when he did play significant mins in summer league he averaged less than 2 APG. There stats we similar in college but I still think that Holiday would be a better choice if we wanted to have a true point guard instead of a scorer.

Has everyone forgotten about sergio? there was a huge article in the oregonian a while back saying he wanted out. why is there no talk about where he is headed?I think sergio is part of whatever draft day trade we might do and i think nash is a smart pick. We have people who can shoot we just need somebody to set it all up out there and nash is a passer to say the least, not to mention he can hit the three. He advises Bayless and everthing is perfect

Sergio could definitely be seen as a tradeable commodity, especially if we go after a proven PG (Nash...) and package him with others.  As much as I hate to say it, both Trout and/or Frye could be logically paired in any trade involving Serge, maybe even Bayless (even though I personally like his game a lot.)  If it comes down to that, we just moved up SLIGHTLY in the draft, and that could also be thrown in for a proven presence, plus maybe a lower pick this year; or probably next year.  All I know is that the talks involving the Blazers are all just that... talks; until tomorrow.  The reality is, with all our young talent, we have a lot of ways to go about getting almost whatever we need.  It's just kind of excruciating to fantasize about "could be's" and "what if's" until tomorrow... I personally can't wait.

Frye is a Free Agent. Portland would have to do a sign and trade after July 1 in order for that to make any sense. I don't see Frye doing that. I think he signs with Phoenix. His style fits in the land of the Suns, they're cutting salary, and he played his college ball at U of Az. I think with them having moved Shaq and cutting salary Nash will stay as the corner stone of the team. Most likely scenario is Portland goes after Heinrich. They can get him easier because he is not Chicago's main guy and yet he makes a lot of money. They will want to dump his salary. Don't expect Frye to be involved in a trade.
