It's been long discussed and debated, and now it's come to fruition. With seven games remaining in the season, Nate McMillan has decided to switch up the starting lineup again by sending Nicolas Batum to the bench, putting Marcus Camby back in as starting center and shifting Gerald Wallace to small forward, his natural position.

We seen this lineup from time to time, most recently last Sunday against the Thunder, as a thigh contusion hobbled Batum early, forcing McMillan to insert Camby at center and rotating Wallace to the wing. Gerald responded by scoring 40 points while holding Kevin Durant to 20 on one of his worst shooting nights of the season.

It's possible that the success Wallace had the last time against the Thunder played part in the decision to move Wallace to small forward, but McMillan also noted that he felt the small lineup, with Wallace at power forward and LaMarcus Aldridge at center, was tiring out both players both mentally and physically. By putting Camby alongside Wallace and Aldridge allows both players return to their natural positions, both on offense and defense.

So what are your thoughts on the move? Bout time? Wrong time?

As much as I love Batum in the starting lineup I do think gerald and lamarcus in their natural positions is going to be more effective then if batum stays in. Also I hope Batum doesn't take it personally but with him coming in from bench him and Gerald can put top notch Defense against opponents best players 100% of the game... that is well worth a few points we might miss from having him start over Camby.

Aldridge and Wallace will combine for 80 points.  Blazers will lose by six because OKC shoots 41 FTS on 21 Portland fouls.

I am personally excited to see this line-up start.  My biggest concern is managing a rotation that doesn't leave the Blazers with a tiny unit on the floor for extended periods of time.  It's true...I just used the words biggest, tiny, extended and unit all in one sentence.  It's a talent.

    Wallace and Aldridge 80 points?
    no, im sorry.

aldridge career high, 40pts, wallace career high, 42.

i dont really agree with this decision, i think wallace moving into such an important position for this team.
batum is much in the clutch for this team at the 3, i just feel as if this is going to haunt the team if the rotations stays till playoffs.
im not saying this is the reason to why he has moved, but just because a guy scores 40 pts it doesn't qualify him to start....imo, and again im not saying that is the reason for him starting.....

I know for a fact that Gerald can only hold down the 4 for a small amount of time. 6'7 going up against guys about 6'10, 6'11 constantly wears even the best defensive players out. That was the thing that had me scratching my head was when I hear you guys were gonna primarily use him at the 4.

Well he'll probably sit at 4 quite a bit for regular and post (hopefully?)  Look for Portland to fill out the 5 a bit so LA and Wallace can do their thing where they're supposed to do it next season, brudda.

I definitely wanted this a long time ago, except I want to see Wallace starting at 2 and Batum starting at the 3, then wes can bring us energy off the bench. But I hate Wallace at the 4, seems like such a damn waste, for both Wallace and Aldridge.

but i could maybe see what tom wanted working out better than this current move of the rotation.
batum + wallace = what i would like to see as well.

I don't exactly fault the starters for what happened in the first quarter against OKC.  I'd like to see one more start with the same guys before really getting too critical.  The only disturbing thing I saw considering Portland was going large (lol) was the bad rebounding.  No excuse for that.  Portland shot well, didn't turn the ball over much and was on OKC.  There's just not much you can do when the opposing team is making every shot, other than try and make those shots a little tougher.  An adjustment was made and it paid off.  Also consider that starting with that particular bunch allowed the game to play out in the way it did.  I dunno', it's just hard to argue against Wallace at the 3 and Aldridge at the 4 after one first quarter.

seems obvious. i thought this was the lineup when we made the trade. never made since to me why we were playing our best two players guys out of position and had camby coming off the bench just so batum could start. prior to this was one of the few times i have questioned nate. this is obviously the most natural line up. going small was a lame idea.

I think what we can't do is say this is set in stone. This is clearly our "BIG" line up (which could be made bigger with Batum at the 2). Against smaller teams we probably will go back to our old line up with Camby on the bench.

I think it's worth a try, but at the same time I think Batum at 2 would be better... he's played the 2 before and well. If he worked on his handling and managed to get it to a decent level it would be a no brainer...
