Jason Quick of the Oregonian is reporting this morning that guard Brandon Roy has been cleared to play in the second game of future back-to-backs.

Guard Brandon Roy will no longer be restricted from playing in back-to-back games, and the limit on his minutes will be extended to about 25 a game, McMillan said Friday evening after meeting with team doctor Don Roberts.

However, Roy will be limited to 15-20 minutes when playing in the second game of a back-to-back.

    -Jason Quick
As has been discussed, Portland's schedule for the remainder of the year is brutal.  The Blazers face both Miami and Atlanta next week in the second of a back-to-back, and both on the road.  Remaining back-to-backs after next week include TWO games on the road with the Lake show, a game AT San Antonio, and the last game of the season, with the Warriors, which is also on the road.  Having BRoy available now for this crucial stretch run can't be looked at as anything but a positive.  The Hornets pushed Portland down to the seventh spot last night, taking sole possession of the 6th.  It's all hands on deck for this battle of attrition to finish out the season.  Count Brandon in.

Sweet, that seems to be good news! I think the Blazers will need all the help they can get, AND Roy needs to get back into game mentality, Rhythm, and shape for the playoffs. I think this will help.

He will definitely be needed down this stretch run of the season so I'm in favor of continuing to ease him in the line-up; if he's healthy come play-off time, they can make a strong showing in the play-offs and perhaps a first round win.

@Tayc come on now, bailing pretty quick on a very good player don't you think? He should be eased back into the lineup slowly, even a Roy at 85-90% what he used to be is still an ALL-Star.

I was just about to make a thread saying Portland should not play Roy on Monday and save him for against the Heat.  That game is looking more and more dangerous with them falling badly.  You know they'll want to bounce back.

    no!
i love B Roy, however, i would like him to continue playing basketball so i would say it is too early to play him, he is going to get hurt again and his career may be over.
We won almost 8 games in a row without roy in the line up and now he is playing more and we are not really hitting a winning streak, so i dont think we need an *0% roy, i think we need a 100% Roy late in the season, and especially in the playoffs.

Ya I hear that, call me anxious to see him back and healthy. I can't wait to see what these last few games could be like with a healthy lineup of Miller/Roy/Wallace/LA/Camby.  With Matthews/rudy and Nicholas off the bench..sick.

I don't believe it is Roy back that derailed our winning streaks though. We played the Lakers tough, The Rockets shot lights out and we were lucky to beat "Anaheim"

hahaha "anaheim" thats a good one.

I think that you should have the line-up switched up because otherwise the bench is a lack-a-daisy of POWER!

Throw Roy and Camby on the bench Squad so that there is depth and skill within the bench.
I know camby would more than likley want to start but i think having wallace and playing him maybe at the 4, could allow Camby and Aldridge and Wallace to rotate more often, if they can still get 30 mins of play.
Batum though, if i were him i think i would be getting pretty frustrated with this organization by now.
He is out there playing , nate has him "holding back" on his skills, he shoots the 3 more than anything and he is far from a dead on shooter.
but i am starting to become more and more frustrated with this wallace trade....and his height

Really you don't like the Wallace trade? I am stoked about it, they need time to gel. I am getting frustrated with the integration of Roy mostly he doesn't even touch the ball. I can see the need for power, we need a true back up center for sure. Collins isn't that option. Let us only hope the Oden nonsense pans out in the long run.

I would be pissed if I were Batum too, we've got to figure out the new rotation that's for sure.

Even though they have 3 days off, the pesimist in me hopes Roy plays minimal minutes against Charlotte, I love the way Roy's been playing, but I fear he's playing too hard on defense at times, sacrificing his knees for this team. More than winning, I want Roy to be healthy, now in his career as well as in life. One thing we need to accept is that maybe we need to save Roy from himself at times. I love the way he's being used by Nate in the offense though.

One thing we need to accept is that maybe we need to save Roy from himself at times.

This.  Roy has a history of trying to do too much too soon.  If he has the potential to come back as a major force on the court (which it is looking he does!) then he really needs to ease into it.  Also the reality is that he may need to be relegated to an explosive bench player instead of that guy that can grind out 40+ minutes a night.
