What is the biggest key to victory?
    Establish Aldridge down low (12)
     52%
Keep Dallas out of transition (1)
     4%
    Points in the paint (6)
     26%
    Bench production (4)
     17%
    Other (0)
     0%

For the 2nd time in less than a month, the Trail Blazers head back down to Big D to face the Mavs. Only this time, they'll be facing an entirely different team. Against the Bucks on Saturday, Caron Butler suffered some cartilage damage, which will sideline him quite some time. Also, a sprained right knee will keep Dirk Nowitzki out of his 5th straight game. Dallas, 25-8 on the season, is currently 1-3 without Dirk, with their only win coming against the Cavaliers.

Normally, Portland would be considered an underdog in an arena such as Dallas, but with the Mavs' two best players out for this contest and Portland streaking, winners of 6 of their last 8, the stars could be aligning for the Trail Blazers to get a rare win in Dallas. How can they win this game? First, keep the L-Train on the tracks. He needs to stay out of foul trouble and attack the undersized Shawn Marion who has been moved over to the 4 spot while Dirk has been out.

Feed the ball to LaMarcus and RUN RUN RUN. I am really enjoying watching the TEAM move the ball around lately. GO BLAZERS

it's got to be Aldridge in my opinion. Last game against Dallas was the first game of this current hot stretch he's been on. He's comfortable playing in his home state, back close to friends and family, and I don't think he should have any problems scoring at will on either Marion or Chandler.

By establishing LA down low, it opens up our perimeter shooters.  We need to shoot above 45% to win this game.  Can't give up the easy transition baskets also.  Having Priz back will help on the defensive side for our bench.  Need to come out strong, don't let Dallas jump out ahead early.  I can see Portland stealing this game tonight.

Well, I guess a win would be a win but I am from the old school way of thinking and that is how can a team gauge themselves if they play a team that isn't with all their firepower/all stars??? Without the competetion at the level it should be we will never know what this win means if we get it. Sure, the Blazers are without some of our stars as well, BUT...we are without ours for more then likley the rest of the season so we need to know how well the team "AS IS" can perform against the elite teams! Don't get me wrong...I want another victory tonight just like everyone else here in Blazer-land, I just wish it would be against the full Mavericks roster! Once again, getting LA going down low is the key followed by bench production.

    peace out,
    daddy

Rare win in Dallas?  Correct me if I'm wrong but we swept the Mavs last season except that one game in Portland in which the refs heavily favored Dallas.

    No Butler and no Dirk?
You got two teams without their stars,  one knows how to play without theirs and the other looks like a bunch of idiots, and look even more stupid when they do have their star.

Andre matches up well with Kidd.  LaMarcus abuses the likes of Scola, Love, and whoever else is in the West, no way is he going to get abused my Marion.  Also LMA is a native of Dallas, no doubt he'll want to win and play hard.
Camby is a better defender than Tyson Chandler and knows how to pass.

Yeah, we should easily win this one.  I'll be very disappointed if we don't.  I hate Dallas, so a win would be awesome.

The scores going to be 163-1, Portland wins.
They're only getting the one point because the Mavs are gonna suck really bad,
and every trailblazer is going to crack up laughing and the refs are going to call a technical lol

Knowing the Mavs they'd choke on that technical.

This could be a dangerous game because teams tend to relax when star players are not playing, but i know coach Nate won't let that happen if we can slow down Berra, Terry and Marion and get good bench production we should win no problem.

Yes it would still be a rare win in Dallas. Before last year, I believe they had a double-digit winning streak at home against us. Just like Utah swept us last year at home, it was still a rare occurrence.

This is exactly what I'm talking about with Nate. Down the stretch of close games he comes up with the most predictable and stupid offensive plays that always lead to garbage heaves and loose ball scrambles.

Missed free throws and terrible perimeter defense cost us this one tonight boys. Why oh why were we doubling the likes of Marion, Chandler and Kidd in the post? Dallas just got way too many open looks and it bit us in the butt. We need to make those players prove they have post moves before sending in the cavalry.

I think Nate had his thoughts on tomorrows game.  Bench struggled big and he didn't play the starters enough in the 4th.  What Hawes said, along with questionable no calls, really hurt us.  The Blazers are mad about it.

A Mavs fan said this to me.

"So you are saying that all star Roy and a pretty untested center (that would only play for 25 minutes anyway) would have made a Portland team win over a Mavericks team getting a former MVP/10 time all star/7 foot power forward and their other all star forward back?... oh, and you think that they would win 90% of the times too?

    Boy, you are dumb.

    Chandler/Haywood are better than Camby/Oden

    Dirk is better than LeMarcus

    Butler/Marion is better than Batum/Matthews

Terry vs Roy is the only matchup that the Mavs lose

Kidd vs Andre is easy to pick too.

The Mavs bench, with Haywood, Barea, Marion, Terry, and Stevenson (who will go to the bench when Beaubois returns) is the best second unit in the league.

    Carislie is better than McMillan.

I think that the Mavs have a better chance at winning 90% of the games against Portland than the opposite happening."

I literally laughed out loud.  I guess people from Dallas don't only look stupid but actually are stupid.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...
