I've been watching the blazers a long time.  Some players just have the killer instinct to become a star in the league, unfortunately Batum isn’t a killer.  Don’t get me wrong, he's a nice compliment player. He will be a 11 and 4 guy his entire career.  The Blazers just don’t see that.  There shouldn't be one player on this team that is untradeable.  Love Dre, he is the glue of the team.  The Blazers will only trade Dre if it looks like they won’t make the playoffs, hard to throw a new starting PG from another team into a new system.  Rudy, playing better as of late, but will disappear when Roy gets back.  Love Priz, but he has no value this year other than his contract.  Rudy, Nic have to low of contracts to trade for a superstar, so you have to package with one of the higher salary players.  Maybe, Nic, Rudy and Priz for K.Love and Brewer.  Maybe, Nic and Priz for M.Beasley and Brewer.  Minnesota will not be able to sign both of these players when they have to in 2012. We might be able to make the playoffs with a %500 record, maybe, but we will get blown away.  Do we sacrifice possible opportunities with old players or do you look to the future.  It pains me to say it, but the Lakers really know how to make decisions like these.

We look to the future. You've hit just about every point I have in my brain about the blazers. No one on this roster is untouchable. B-Roy is the only one who is pretty much forced to be untouchable due to his knees and contract.

There are a few teams that have the same issues as Minnesota.  Memphis, is another do they sign Zach or Gasol, they cant do both and there is a good chance they cant do either.  Oklahoma with Westbrook and Green, I dont see that core staying together, why do you think they signed Collison to a cheap long term deal, because they are not going to be able to sign Green with the qualifing offer, they can only pay one superstar in that kind of market.

I agree on Batum. I don't see him becoming the aggressive player that most of us were hoping for. His trade value might be at it's peak right now so we should capitalize on that and get what we can.

Wow, there ARE people in Portland that don't believe Nic walks on water.  Batum does not possess the motor necessary to be a star in this league.  Period.  An occassional highlight?  Sure.  Anything more?  Nope.  A shame that a player blessed with such unique athleticism doesn't also have the drive to use it.  Truly a shame.
Agree with you 100% (and have).

where i agree with you on that batum isn't a star now. none of us really knows what the future holds.
batum could and had the potential to become a very good player in this league.

all the expatations of everyone saying batum will be an allstar this season really wasn't blown out of porportion..
    i mean honestly?
    he's 22. and very raw.

you dont know. hes just starting to figure out the game of basketball. you never really figure it out at that age. batum is willing to learn though as you can see from his improvement from year to year.

heck dirk said himself a few weeks back.
"i wish i knew what i know now when i was younger about the craft of basketball."

honestly. give batum some time. dont give up on him now because all of the expatations where impossible to achieve in one offseason/season.
just because batum doesn't look like he's showing effort or emotion like some of the basketball players do.
doesnt mean hes not into the game. far from it.
nor does it mean that hes not giving it his all every play.
    hes young. twenty-two!

well the biggest argument about batum isnt of how good he is, but of when well he get to show it.
it is often said that Nate is the sole reason Batum isnt exploding into the dynamic SF we know him to be. batum's quickness and high flying tricks are so anti Nate, so it makes sense to as why we have yet to see that in a game, but also allowing Nic to let loose like that, would move him up to a dominant scorer.

Now all the things like extra minutes and rotations come in to play, and to me, it seems like nate is the kinda of guy who has his things a certain way, and thats that yo, no one can change it but him. Nicolas would be getting more touches taking away touches that , idk lets say that WM is getting. With Roy out, to me it seems that we are going to need all the help we can get, all of our players at 100%, and if Nates Nic is already been at 100%, then damnit make it 110%, i want to see dunks, drawing of the fouls, and free throws.!!!
Now isnt the best time to discredit him in any way, seeing as how he has just become that much more valuable to this team.

Batum is still the 2nd most talented person on this team, what he can offer to the NBA, in some aspects is unrivaled.

To me, Batum has the same exact problem that Lamarcus Aldridge had up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago. It's all in his head. He needs to want to dominate, be aggressive and think he is better than his opponents. The reason this organization is so high on Batum is because he has enormous potential, but the only thing stopping that is Nic. I was really ready to give up on Lamarcus this year if he stayed in the same mental state, but he seems to have flipped a switch and realized his own potential. Batum is young so you got to give him time, and hopefully Nate knows how to get it out of him. I don't think Nate does, but I still hope for that or Nic figures it out on his own soon!

They said all the same things about Sergio, Bayless, Rudy.  Not one of these guys can get a star in return. Its all about selling high people.  Its a gamble.

Batum's inability to put the ball on the floor and create for himself or others with the bounce, is now hurting his team and crippling both his effectiveness and consistency, in terms of contributions.  In this season's exit meetings, I would hope Nate would address this with Nic as an area he needs to dramatically improve in.  Nic not being a legitimate triple threat at that 3 position has a ripple effect on the entire team at the offensive end of the floor.

Batum can create for himself. i always thought the issue was nate holding him back.
the kid is a like a MiG jet. he can fly to the rack, he can dunk like Amare if he wanted to, draw that foul, but he sits on the 3 ball, idk why....?
he needs to take advantage of being 6'8 and with those long arms, the people who make posters will be lining up

ill agree with you for once, love nate, but ive watched gerald wallace go from a slasher/attacker to a guy that 9 times out of 10 will jack up a 3 as well, it must be the system?

what happened to the pump fake on the 3, losing your defender and driving to the rack for a slam or layup + 1.

yes, that's what we need to win this series and the next. I also see a lot of standing around on offense if it's not a fast break. dont stare at the guy witht he ball, make cuts and set screens for each other. the grizzlies are beating up the spurs because they MOVE.

Seriously, what's Batum's deal? For the third straight postseason, he has been MIA and I'm not talking where the Heat play at. I realize he's only 22, but I don't think 13-15 points/4-5 rebounds a night is too much to ask for. He has all the tools, but he plays like Martell Webster (another player who doesn't have the mental aspect of the game down).

Now, we have seen what LA can do and Camby & Dre aren't getting any younger. Cho delivered Wallace as a sidekick for LA, now its time we get LA the last musketeer. And I think the only available player we have to trade who could deliver that type of player is Batum. I'd hold onto Nic for the most part, but if the right deal came along, we shouldn't hesitate if it upgrades our roster. I just don't know if this kid will ever reach his potential. I thought it may have been Nate holding him back, but LA is succeeding under Nate and Wesley improved under Nate as well. Finally, am I missing something or were the number of Batum blocks way down this year?

I think the important thing with nic is that hes improved each year. Hes only 22 and has tremendous potential. The thing to remember is that going forward youre going to have to beat okc at some point and nic has had a ton of success guarding durant. I think hes invaluable for this team on the defensive end. He also averaged 12 points a game this year with a 3pt % of .34. If he can improve his 3 point shot, continue to improve on defense, and rebound a little more i think thats perfect for this team.
