Lets first get ideas for chants and songs. After we get a solid base we can start refining and discussing which ones we feel would be best to actually use at games.

I'm reposting what I said earlier here so it stays available. I think just a "RIP CI-TY, RIP CI-TY, RIP CI-TY" would be an awesome start! When Phil Jackson is in town we could sing "It's raining, it's pouring, the Lakers are boring. They're mesomorised and mistified and none of them are scoring." but that isn't a general one.

So RedRudy5 mentioned to me we should chant Rudy, Rudy, Rudy at the game. We all love Rudy and I think we should have a Rudy chant. Since he also is quite the "footballer" maybe we could chant "Rudy" to the melody of the "Ole, ole, ole" song. What do you all think?

I think that when we have a "Spanish Connection" we should just chant the "Ole, Ole, Ole..." song... Saying "Rudy" to it would be cool too, but I am a fan of the Fernandez & Rodriguez duo!

I think that works better chanting Ole to the Spanish Connection, but we need some for Rudy when he drills a three from behind the arc or when he steals a pass and slams it home!

So it sounds like we agree on the OLE, OLE, OLE for when the Spanish Armada hooks up. We seem to all like the Lakers Song. What about a rally cry, something that could be sustained for a comeback. What if we revised the Marshall Chant, "THIS IS...RIP CITY!" Get two groups on opposite sides of the RG, or a long BLAAAAAAAAAZERRRRRRRRRRS, BLAAAAAAAAZERRRRRRRS?

Yao Ming, more like Meow Ming. Because he's such a pussycat when it comes to fouls. Blazer fans should make Meow cat sounds when Yao goes to shoot. (decorative signs might help too, like a Hello Kitty sign or something) It might be more effective then screaming and banging sticks together.

Oh and another thing for Game 5, since Houston disrespected Portland by chanting (Portland Sucks) during last game, when Houston's lineup is announced we either chant "Lets Go Blazers" or "Houston Sucks", but we got to do it loud enough so we cant hear mark mason.

I recommend that we chant "Lets go Blazers," we want to have the same effect, but prove that we are above them. We are better than them. By remaining positive while being disrespectful, it just seems better, or we could chant "Portland Rocks!" Again, a direct allusion to what they said, but changed to Rip City style. Rarely negative, but always driving the message home hard.

also, I think that given he is from eastern asia the Hello Kitty signs might be considered racially insensitive. Just a thought. Cat pictures and signs, would help, i just think Hello Kitty herself could too easily be misconstrued.

I was thinking that a quiet "rip" (no pun intended) could get progressively louder as it was chanted, all the while building energy as it progresses. rip rip rip rip Rip Rip Rip Rip RIp RIp RIp RIP RIP RIP RIP! Then just as an oponent was about to shoot we could throw "CITY" at them packed with 150 db behind it! This would work best over the course of several possessions in order to build Blazer confidence and then disrupt opponent play.

I like the concept, I just think it would have too many components to get 20,000 people on board. With the songs, people already know the tune and the words can get put in a program and it is just loud, no levels. The chants, are all just loud and simple. Where as there are just too many levels to that particular chant with the different levels and timing involved for a stadium full of people. That is my opinion.

I was thinking about what we could possibly do for Martel and I was thinking we could "borrow" the catch phrase from the show Webster. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it was, and no it wasn't "what you talkin' 'bout Willis." That was from Different Strokes. Just to get that out of the way. Was there a catchphrase, or was it more of a serious sitcom? Would it have any relevence? If there was one, what was it? What are some of your other ideas now that we are back up and running again?

By songs we are talking about songs we as fans could sing like you hear when watching a soccor match. You probably read the Lamarcas song and the Raining song, things like that so that, not songs that you hear on the radio.

I think we should try something else new this year. What if we made a big deal about the announcement of the ref's? Our niche in the NBA is that we are the most loyal and passionate fans, and we care about doing things the right way. We have a charm that no other city has. I think if we want to make it deep into the playoffs, we as fans might need to help charm our way in. These refs have egos too and it might be beneficial to us if we gave the refs a little more credit for doing their job then knocking them down all the time. Have they earned it? No, but we made the team we have by being the bigger person and forcing the hand of the organization to change their direction, who says we can't do the same with the ref's. Lets be the bigger team and come up with a cheer for when the refs get announced, or atleast agree to cheer louder for them this year than we have in the past and agree to atleast not "BOO" them because I think we all know that has been counter-productive.

I'm sure you guys have some GREAT ideas for B-Roy, LA, Oden, Przybilla, Webster, Batum. What kind of new ideas are floating out there?

I went to the final regular season meeting with the Philedelphia 76'ers and Steve Javvy was one of the referrees. Everyone thought that his referreeing was poor so a guy behind me started a new chant. "Javvey Sucks! Javvey Sucks! Javvey Sucks!" It was HILARIOUS!

As true as that is, and as funny as that is, Javvy feeds off that and it becomes COUNTER productive for the team. Let's try and find some more positive ones for our homeboys.

A good chant that I thought of is inspired by the rose garden. Anytime there is a bad call against the blazers the screen that surrounds the seats shows a frowny face and a thumbs down with the statement "Weak Sauce". Instead of the very negative boo, we should chant "Weak-Sauce! Weak Sauce! Weak Sauce!" because it has some humor in it but the phrase gets our point across that the call was bad or they need to review a call during a timeout.

I like it. With a two part phrase like that, maybe we could, instead of just chanting it, put it to like a fog horn (long high to long low) soud. "WEEEEEEEEEEEEAK  SAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUCE." It makes it easier for everyone to follow along and really allows everyone outside the audience to understand what the crowd is actually saying. What do you guys (and gals)  think?

I like the idea of the long weeeeeeeeeeak saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuce but where the heck are we going to get a bunch of foghorns? We should not use instruments, just our voices screaming (Or Moaning...)  will get the crowd going. This chant may take a while for people to get used to and we need to spread the word before every home game.

NEW SONG! We can adjust the last verse if we want to once we know what the team is going to be at the start of the season.

(To the tune of Yankee Doodle)

    The Rose Garden

    It is our House.

    We’re Rip City United

    You’ve Come to Us

    Upon your Bus

Now go on home be frightened.

    Rudy shoots the lighting out,

    LA makes you posters,

    Brandon breaks your kankles down

    And Oden swats you POSERS!

    Nicholas will stop you dead,

    Thrilla makes your thugs CRY

Blakey serves out dimes all night,

And Webster threes in your EYE.

    Bayless dunks like Johnny Starks

    Coach Nate’s a freakin’ Guru.

    Our GM PRITCHSLAPS EVERY YEAR.

A foul was called? WELL BOO HOO!

Cheryl, if you have joined this group, when you upload a photo, you can select the BlazerChanters Album when you are editing that photo's Title and Description. To upload photos,

    1) click on your picture in the top nav bar
    2) click on "photos" on the top right secondary navigation bar.
    3) On the right hand side there is "upload a photo" area. Upload a photo, give it a title and select which album you want to put it in. If you're part of the Blazer Chanter group, it will show that as one of your album choices.

    I hope that helps!

Great to see that we are up to 40 MEMBERS! NICE! I still would LOVE to hit that 100 mark by the beginning of the season. For those of you that don't know much about Blazer Chanters, I started it because I was inspired by the passion of the English League Soccor Fans. They have chants and songs that date back ages and the stadiums just ROAR with FANdamonium. I think we could do the same with the Rose Garden (without the cursing, we want it to stay a family environment). We have the most passionate fans in the NBA and we would love to BRING THE NOISE up to a new level this year. If you haven't joined, come check us out, if you have joined but haven't read how it started, now you know. Please feel free to add your input.

To get more people in this group, I would encourage everyone to invite one person. If they aren't a part of the site yet, invite them using the invite tool: http://www.iamatrailblazersfan.com/PrivateAreaRoot/Friends/InviteFriends/tabid/180/Default.aspx If they are already a member of the site, use the "invite" button at the top of the page. I also would encourage having some meet-ups before a game or two to practice, or at least pass out the lyrics to the chants so everyone sees them... eh? Maybe at "The Game" restaurant.

I could have sworn that I responded to this at the beginning of the month, but I guess not. Anyway, I LOVE the idea of handing the lyrics out at The Game before the game. Possibly even getting those who are part of the group together for a social event/introduction/lyric distribution type deal. If I were to print up copies for each of us, then we each were to make 10 copies of our copy and hand them out, we are talking about over 400 people at the arena that would have the words and the scenarios in which to use them. I think it would be best to have a rehearsal and get the information to the neccessary people sooner rather than later because it would be awesome to unleash the Blazer Chanters epidemic October 14th at Memorial Collesium. Dan, would it be possible for you and me to talk about possibly setting a date and posting as an event on IAMA, or is this something we would just have to do as a group? It would be awesome if we could get the organization behind us on this one. I really believe that this will enhance the game going experience for the fans, it will electrify the building, it would put Portland on a whole new level in the eyes of the sports world. If we get behind this, who knows, it could be the start of other sports expanding into Portland!

One issue to address, no more Spanish Connection. So now we can transfer the "ole, ole, ole," to simply a Rudy deal atleast until Claver comes over. Rudy deserves it. Anyway, when I get the rest of my school and work schedule set I will start posting possible dates and times to get everyone together as well as take ideas for a potential location. I want to make this a successful launch on the 14th if we can muster up enough support. If you aren't a member yet, check us out, this is going to an AWESOME addition to the fan experience at the RG.

So, here are the possible dates. They are all Fridays and it would have to be in the evening, after 5 PM.

    September:
4th, 11th, 18th or 25th. I discourage going on the 18th because I don't want any of you to have to miss it for Mt. Angel Oktoberfest or vise versa, but if that is the date we choose, then so be it.

    October:
2nd, 9th. Remember, the game at Memorial is on the 14th and it would be awesome to unveil some of the chants then so we want to have it done ahead of time.

Alright so I've been gone from here for a while. What exactly is the plan to get the whole arena doing the chants?

Here is the plan so far. I am taking your input on a date to have a Blazer Chanters meet&greet to hand out copies of the words and ideas. I would love to see if maybe the organization would back us on getting some of the ideas put into regular rotation. Right now I want to get the regular Blazer chanters together before 10/14 because it would be great if we could unleash it at the game against Phoenix at Memorial. So please, give me your input. I have the list of available dates on the previous post.

Right now, the most realistic is Asik. If Houston pursue D12, sign and trade JJ and a couple second round picks, maybe Joel Freeland or somebody for Asik.

Nah, Washington would just sign him themselves, save them a pick. Also, no way JJ is worth a lottery pick. Oladipo would be great, for pretty much any team in the NBA. I don''t think it''s possible to get him though. Should focus on getting a defe...

Jermaine O''Neal, Drazen, Z-Bo, Sheed (I know he was already a star but still). Also Drazen was buried under Drexler and Porter.

EZ, are you kidding me? You essentially want to trade LMA for Noel, or worse, DEANDRE JORDAN?

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.

Special K, aren''t you a cereal? And yes, Batum is expensive, but I think he''s worth it. Why would you take someone who isn''t is as good, just for less money. Then why don''t we take the worst possible player and pay him the least possible amoun...
