IDK heres a random thought.  Portland GM's tend to be horrible at drafting and amazing at trading on draft day.  We drafted GO over KD.  We drafted Martel Webster over CP3.  We drafted Bowie over Jordan.  The list goes on and on I think.  I say we trade all the Portland draft picks look at who we got in trades, pretty much anyone good ever to play for Portland (I know that I am missing a few good Blazers we drafted) but on average we suck at drafting.

    Random thoughts?

IMO you can probably look at any team out there and see how they over looked a player,or placed the player they drafted too high. However with a starting five set along with a deep bench access draft slots could be used to trade for a "Star"

You sir, have either a very bad memory or a very short one.  We got Brandon Roy in a draft day trade deal with the Timber Wolves and we sent them the rights to Randy Foye.  Also LaMarcus was a draft day deal with Chi Town Bulls if you remember.

    My points still stands.

I went back to look at draft picks we selected since 1986 there were a handful that were worth mentioning

Over 60 draft picks we were able to draft these not worth players
    Arvydas Sabonis
    Cliff Robinson
Aaron Mckie (sad when he is mentioned as a best draft pick in a 20 year plus span)
    Jermaine O'Neal
    Zach Randolf
Travis Outlaw (great player, just not that great)

Once you got past 1986 we were drafting 10 players at a time with about one worth while, including Drexler, Porter, Kersey we got those 3 in 30 tries.

Hindsight is 20/20.  I have the utmost confidence in Cho and in our scouts.  IMO this may be the best group this team has seen.  Let them do their job and wait until the February trade deadline to comment.  Until then, let's support this team...every player, as they are OUR Portland Trailblazers!

For every person criticizing the Bowie pick, there would be ten or more doing the same if we had taken Jordan with Clyde already on the roster.  The same can be said for the Oden pick.  Very old and tired argument.  Ask yourself what Jordan WOULDN'T have been, having to share time with Clyde.  What of "The Glide"?  A true shame for the league and it's many fans, that scenario would have been.  Apply that same thought to the Oden/Durant draft.  Besides, GO is NOT Sam Bowie.  I could go on and on, but really, it's not justified.

I'm with BDawg, the whole topic of past draft picks and could of vs reality is a very old and tired argument indeed. The point is during the events you never truly know what you're gonna get, or what you're gonna give away. If anyone new that Bowie and Oden would have this tie, then good for you. Still a decision any GM on the market would have made. Just makes sense. So come on Blazer fans, let's not play this game again. GO BLAZERS!!!

a draft day trade for a draft pick is still drafting him. And you can't trade consecutive picks away, so if we traded away our pick for the 2012 draft, we'd have to keep the 2013 draft pick (same round) unless a later trade was made sending the 2012 pick back to us....something like that.

By the way Bowie was a great player with a strong work ethic, he just had a series of injuries that he couldn't overcome.  Everyone knows we didn't need jordan because we had Clyde, and back then stars didn't want to share the limelight, we didn't pick Durant because everyone and their mother projected Oden to be a great player, and it's not the new management's fault that Oden didn't disclose his injury prior to us drafting him.

Well, the draft is bigger than picking a player at your numbered selection. Granted our natural overall draft pick (one that is assigned/given to us by the league) might not have turned out to be the player we hoped for that doesn't make or break your draft day. It's easy to say coulda, woulda, shoulda after the fact.

Drafting is not the act of picking a player...if Portland really sucked at drafting the team you watch every night would not exist. Roy would be playing for Minny, LA would be in Chicago, Rudy in Phoenix, Batum in Houston, etc. etc.

I dont buy into the notion that Jordan couldnt have played with Drexler or Durant with Roy however facing the heat and the lakers I would rather have Oden than Durant.

Yeah we got Broy from a trade. I agree with you that this guy has no idea what he's doing, but  I'd becareful these fans up in here get butt hurt like crazy when you criticize and make comments about that fool.
Everyone knows we didn't need jordan because we had Clyde
....that.....is.....probably one of the WORST things i have EVER READ on THIS SITE!!!!!

I said we were good at trading..... And no drafting is the act of picking a player, if he is DRAFTED by a team then traded it is called trading his rights.  Since that NBA team owns his rights but he hasn't signed with them yet.

And hind sight?  How about just don't pick like idiots, when Webster was drafted EVERYONE said CP3 would be the best player in the draft.  But Portlands GM in all their wisdom decided that Telfair was the pg of the future for our team and drafted  SG.

GO over KD was a great choice, seriously.  Durant would suck in a Portland jersey.  Don't let the overrated BS the media/NBA feeds KD and the Thunder let you see past reality.  I'd much rather have Batum and Oden than Durant.

    what are you talking about.
Kevin Durant isnt Overrated annd hyped up.
He goes out and proves it every night.
While Oden is sitting on the bench, crying over his knee.... Durant is on his way to the MvP this year.

I think durant is overated but there is no way Oden has been better than durant or ever will be.  Actually not a bad idea to trade all of our draft picks for the next year or two for a star player since we have too many rookies and second year players anyway and also we are in need of another star

How about just don't pick like idiots.

You can't always get the steal of the draft every year, or the best player in the draft every year no matter how low or high they went.
Do the Blazers have the best draft resume'? Of course not.
But no team in the NBA does, you scout players, do your homework, and most of the time your drafting for a need not a want.
I'm sure Houston wanted to pick Jordan...but if you look at their roster, they needed a big man so they took Olajuwon.

I think scouting players is probably the hardest job in any sport, because you just don't know how a player is going play and adjust at the professional level.
Its because of this debating who got who is pretty pointless.
