Im frustrated that Patty MIlls has been doing everything asked off him and still McMillan gives him no time. He was told last year Rookies must do their time and they sent him to D League. Broke a scoring record coming off the bench and consistently spread the ball to his team who he had never played with (Toliver scored 30 that game off Mills assists). Then in Summer League almost scores a triple double (interview with Chris Webber) still no love. Patty trains harder than any player in the squad and works hard to build team morale and positive influence within the team. What else could you want from a PG. He has proven him self over the years through out college and in international basketball, but still cannot get minimal minutes on the court.

I find it hard for people to judge his playing style when they have never really seen him play. Sure you could say his turn over rate is high. But remember he never sees the court and how can you gain confidence when your couch doesn't believe in your ability to control a team. Patty didn't make the NIKE world team twice for nothing and lead the scoring for Australia in the Olympics.Including scoring above 20 points twice against a full squad Dream team.  He brought a below average St Mary's to its first NCAA tournament in something like 15 years, shut down Stephen Curry while leading his team to beat them for the first time in a number of years. Yet after all the doubt he shows a massive amount of self determination and is still happy to be part of a team and the Portland community.

It seems that McMillan doesnt want him then you should have the guts to tell him and stop playing favourites. Patty and Armon are the same age and Patty has 20 times the experience as him on the international level. He has the ability to keep a cool head in high pressure situations and will continue to grow under the guidance of a veteran point guard.

Sure AJ has long arms and ok hops. But he will never control a team and improve their ability to score like Patty will. AJ is another Bayless, he is a OK SG but will not meet what the Blazers need and never make the Dream team.

I am a fan of Patty Mills. Cant wait to see him get some PT

Well maybe Nate has plans for AJ to be the starter post Andre and have Mills be backup that sounds reasonable.  He lieks AJ cuz of the defense he brings which is not Pattys strongest aspect but having 2 quick passing pgs cant be bad for us and also EW also is just stacking us.  And AJ is no Bayless and no SG don't let your frustration ruin your post.

Sirblkns, I tip my hat to you good sir, finally I at least have someone who shares my thoughts on Patty. I think I have raised most of your points at some point and agree with the rest.  The truth is the Blazers just don't know how to utilize Patty's skill sets. I'd love to add more to your post, but I give up. I'd rather they trade him somewhere were he will get some game time and at least my Aussie team won't have a rusty pg at the next Olympics.
So keep up the good fight Sirbilkns.  By the way you may have KIM post a reply here, ( she likes big tall defenders, talks about puppy's for Rudy and feels nauseous when players bust their buts trying to play on her Blazers team), oh and she doesn't like Patty much. Don't let her comments get to you; one day there will be a Patty Mills poster above her bedhead, if its not there already.  :)

sirblkns - It would be great if you never posted a comment on this blog again.  The fact that you think Patty Mills' PT has anything to do with the success of our team at this point is appalling.  As mentioned, if it wasn't for an injury, he wouldn't even be on this team.  Don't tell Nate how to run this team because if I know one thing, it is that he knows a whole lot more about this team and its players than you do.

Having said that, I want to commend Patty on making the team and working hard.  It's great to see people work hard and fight for their dreams.  But, this is a business, something that you clearly do not understand.  So you think that he should play because he has worked hard?  What about the millions of players who have tried to make it into the NBA and have come up short?  They have worked as hard as anyone.  Don't they deserve a shot to be in the league?  Don't they deserve a shot to play for the Blazers?  The answer is ABSOLUTELY not!  This is a business, about winning, where the best players play.  Oh but you are saying that he is one of the best players right?  Because he has proven it for Australia and in college.  The fact that you think this warrants playing time for us proves your ignorance.  There has been a laundry list of players who were great college and international players who haven't made the NBA.  Huh, wonder why?  It's because it is the NBA, the most competitive league in the world.  Let Nate do his job.

I like your post Sirblkns, I think everyone is entitled to an opinion and express that opinion. I do think Mills could help the Blazers in some ways. With his 3-point shooting ability, his quickness or vision of the court. He does seems to lack on the defensive end though. I would really like to see more of him so I could get a better picture of him running the Blazers.

AJ another bayless? what are you smoking.  In 9 minutes against phoenix he completly shut down dragic, scored 3 points, had 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.  Bayless or Mills dont have the potential to be a great PG like Armon.

Disagree strongy. Armon will be lucky if he can match Bayless' potential.
But any player will decrease in skill if you sit them on the bench long enough....

But i agree, i would like to see what Mills has got to offer the NBA

I'm not ready to give Patty the reigns or write him off completely...

He's the kind of player that can get in and stir up an offense. He's quick and make unexpected passes and jumpers. That's one of the reasons he's so fun to watch! It's also one of the reasons he dosn't fit into the current offensive scheme. I'd like to see Nate give him a chance and see if his fast, fun style of play could work for the Blazers. There's nothing like having two different styles to throw off a defense...

IMO we should get him some minutes to see what he can do.

Kingfisher, you are too funny. I will NEVER own a Mills poster. I have no use for Mills on the Blazer roster. Nothing personal. If he works that hard, I hope he goes some where he may actually play.

If someone could convince me that he can be of any use against Heinrich and Rose tomorrow, I may rethink my opinion :)

Mills is just bad. You already hit it but his turnover rate is amazingly high. Patty could have Kobe skills but if you turn the ball over, what's the point? Nate is keeping an eye on him in practice. He needs to be benched.

Also: if you think he's so good, maybe Nate is waiting for an oppertune time to throw him in a package deal for an all-star :)

    Fail!

Patty's Summer league was no different to Armon's, maybe no better, but definitely no worse.

Where are your turnover rate stats to prove your baseless post?  His efforts at the recent 2010 World Championship put him in front of more heralded NBA regulars; he finished in the top ten players for assists and his Assist to turnover rate was 2.3  That put him ahead of players like Dragic, Rose, Billups, Westbrook, Delfino, BATUM and Stephen Curry, hell, in fact he had a better assist to turnover rate than every player on the USA team!

You're looking at Mill's stats against bad players. Put him in a real game with real players and he couldn't handle himself. Sure he's decent in D league and summer league but that means nothing. He is a bench warmer and there is a reason why Nate isn't showing him playing time; because he can't handle it.

People in this thread think he's so great, he's not. If he were, other teams would be going through hoops to get him. Patty is a bench warmer and always will be one.

He did not play against all nba players, that is a big difference. And in summer league Armon's defense was far superior to Patty's. Also the US Team played together for only like 2 weeks before they started playing the rest of the world, so of course they turned it over more.
I think what we can live with right now is Armon's defense is much better than Patty's. Armon will play some D and pass the ball without trying to look for his own shot which will help limit his mistakes and turnovers while he learns, which is good for Nate. Patty does not play that way naturally so he would be more prone to mistakes and he doesn't play as good of defense so Nate would just pull him anyway as soon as he looked at the ball funny.

Still no game time DNP again and was the only one in the team. Even Babit got minutes WTF?

Do something with him or trade him. It isn't rocket science! Patty is a good player, but will never get time at Portland. Portland is paying him money and not developing him.

I know people will say Allen wants him in Portland etc etc but why waste your one spot for someone you have no intention of playing. You might as well send him to D league to get experience. Portland has a deep bench especially if they expect AJ to back up Dre all day. So they don't need him on the bench.

I think its a stupid way to spend your money if you will not develop a person you are paying wages to.

If they need him back then they call him form D League!
If he rips it up as i suspect then at least he grows and you have some sort of stock in him to sell as i suspect Nate wants to happen.

I suspect they are afraid they are wrong with their assessment of his ability and will trade and regret their decision to move him on.

    Thoughts?

p.s. im glad someone is talking about this because ive been waiting 1 year to see how he will go and its like putting a muzzle on a dog. You cant contain him forever you have to train him to be part of the pack

A Point of View from an Aussie Perhaps?

I see both sides of the argument here... You have Mills who has played well throughout college, Olympics, international level etc and it is not seeing minutes in Portland there is a reason... His style of game simply does not suit what Nate McMillan is after in a PG. With the Blazers playing one of the slowest paces in the league and preaching team defense it is easy to see why Patty isn't getting minutes . Sure he has a great shot but you cant be one dimensional in a team as deep as the Blazers... Although nothing more would please me more to see an Aussie such as Patty make the rotation, realistically he stands behind Miller, Johnson, Williams and even Matthews!

In the best interests of Patty's development id like to see him go to the Knicks, Pacers, Sacramento or even Golden state where he has an improved chance of cracking an nba rotation...

IMO i think that Nellieball and D'Antoni's SSOL (Seven seconds or less) offense would be an ideal fit for Mills' playing style.
I am a fan of seeing an uptempo Blazers squad!

How can you play Mills when Miller is playing well and Roy plays some minns at backup PG while. Thats barely any time for AJ who is also playing well so far. The PG position was not the problem. Roy was doubled while Batum, Matthews and Fernandez couldnt shoot. Batum needs more plays ran for him
