More news on this rainy Saturday. According to a tweet from The Oregonian's Jason Quick, Jeff Pendergraph, who is out, likely for the season, with a torn right ACL, will be released

Rich Cho sez he's still unsure about 15th spot but that pendergraph will be released

If that is in fact the case, best of luck to Jeff. They don't come better than that guy.

Who is the backup point guard now? Patty Mills? Armon Johnson? Does Roy and Rudy the traitor handle the ball when Miller is on the bench? I'm confused. There HAS to be something else coming soon.

All I have to say to you Rudy nay sayers, For a guy who "wanted out," check his stats. 52% from the behind the arc with a leauge high 21 3 pointers.

Plus he is a guy who out plays bayless in every regard. Compare his Preseason Stats to Bayless, the only category Bayless wins is assists by .6 pg. Thats playing at the 2 position! now put him in the 1 and let him run the 2nd string and watch him shine.

What seems to make more sense is Matthews coming in for Dre. when Miller needs a rest. Matthews is a guy which an exceptional work ethic, Crazy high Court IQ, and mad man ball handing skills. Would you want to go up against Matthews, Roy, Batum, LaMarcus, and Canby (greg or priz when back)? Matthews is a guy who can distribute as well as be a threat on the offensive not only in the post but behind the arc, which is something dre can't do.

I'm behind this trade, I've never though bayless was a fit for this team. He has always seemed like a 2 trying to play the 1 and it just never worked out. I'm glad that nate has confidence in Armon as a rookie to hopefully step in once he becomes more comfortable in the NBA. In the mean time I hope to see Matthews run the floor behind dre, and who knows maybe next season let the Miller - Roy drama finally come to and end and let Matthews and Armon run the floor.

Tough break for the guy no playing time, now no team :( . I wish him the best of luck, hoping him and the Blazers will cross paths later in his career.

Will always be a fan of Jeff.

Wow, I am waking up to such much news (Sunday morning here) . . Bayless gone and now this . . never got to see Jeff, as I am not in the US during the season . . but what I saw and heard of him, he worked hard on and off the court; great personality and from what I read from you guys from time to time, seems like we have lost a great assest for our team. Yes, like many of you have said, I wish him all the best for the future.

No love loss sending J-Bay off to New Orleans, but losing Big Penny is a heartbreak.  He has such potential and is going places in the NBA and beyond.  In my opinion, very short sighted of the team.  Camby has maybe this season left in the tank.  Hope he finds a team that will hone his skills.

we may still be able to sign him after the season ends.  His contract would have expired after this season anyway so although I don't like that we have to release him we still have almost as good of a chance of keeping him past this season as we would have had anyway.

Not sure what to make of these 2 moves. Creates more playing time for Mathews,Rudy, and Johnson, perhaps opens room for adding a big. What are the conditions of the first round pick?

So not only did you release a guy who's injured (ouch low Blow)
But you released a big, and if im correct, does mills now have a spot on the team?

If mills stays an pendergraph goes, man this team can kiss the championship goodbye. I know that jeff was out for the seaz anyway, but thats beyond the point i think. YOu need big guys, i dont care if theyre all injured throw one of them out there, thats where we are at right now.
I mean you sign steven hill, then waive him? And trade bayless for a draft pick, and now you might have 2 rookie backups for PG?

Okay i missed the point on that.

It's understandable that the Blazers would want to release Pendergraph since he won't be playing at all, but they just can't cut him!  The guy's worked so hard and been so determined to return this season as a solid back-up center.  It's worth paying him for doing nothing this season so he can come back for us next season, because if he's released, it's possible he would never be signed in the NBA again.
Patty's the more logical choice for the cut.  I'm convinced he doesn't have any future in the NBA, the play style just doesn't match up with him.  Plus, next season, when Joel and Camby are even older and Greg's probably in a body cast, we'll need a young big rather than a quick point guard.  I also haven't mentioned the Penderbeast's incredible tenacity!  He's a monster!  He should not be cut.

Even Though there is a possibility that this trade can backfire on Portland it is a great trade as far as the future goes. (as long as it doesn't backfire) As for this year, the Bayless trade and Joel and Oden's conditions I interpret it that they have already waived the white flag and are positioning themselves for next year.

Conditions of trade are that the pick is protected 1-7 in 2011 draft, 1-8 in 2012,2013,2014, Two second round picks 2015 and 2016.

So the Hornets need to finish with the 8th worst record next year or better in order for portland to get the pick. If they finish 7th worst or worse then Hornets keep their pick and portland must wait till they finish 9th or better in one of the following 3 years. If Hornets finish 8th worst or worse all 3 years then portland will get both of their 2nd round picks in 2015 and 2016.

The Hornets will probably not make the playoffs but there should be at least 7 teams finish with a worse record. Definitely a gamble but a great chance to get a lottery pick next year.

His instincts to both stick by his word and get us a big man back up, and to trade an overzealous Bayless on a team that simply is too deep there, almost too good to be true.  Not only do you get rid of a relative ballhog-- although i wish him well, but you also have made his departure an asset for the team.  Wink to Monty.

You did deserve head coaching ability.  You still love Portland though . . . We will succeed as a team.  Camby And Miller are a strong part of our push toward veteran leadership that can still ball.

Fernandez, with all you frustrated me as a fan.  And with your ability to woo us, as a crowd in the Rose Garden with one shot or fancy move, and then throw the ball a away with one of your telegraphed hook passes that is too fast.  Hmmm.   I actually confess to not understanding you.  But i'd keep you none the same.  You can flat out shot and you are too valuable.  Beyond Bayless "potential" value.

So, if I look at that, and give this new dude a chance.  I wholeheartedly disagree with you.  Same as I disagree for our fickled natured "fans" who gave Brandon so much B.S. for wanting the ball.  I WANT him to WANT the ball.  Think about it, all of it.

It is a team sport.  Time to come together Blazers!

Let's be honest, losing pendergraph is not a big deal, since he wasn't going to play this year anyway.  Better to cut him and have someone who can actually take the floor, than lose a roster spot all year.  And there's no reason why the Blazers can't grab him again next season.

As for who fills that roster spot... I think it's time to give Mills a chance.  I know he has his haters, but he's never really done anything wrong.  I'm surprised that a guy who excelled at college level, dominated in the D-League and mixed it with the best in the international game - world champs and Olympics, hasn't been given a shot in the NBA.
