The time has come. It is now officially basketball season! Its time to post some season predictions.

    Division Finish: 1st

    Conference Finish: 3rd

Where will the season end: Game 7 of the 2nd round

X-Factor: Wesley Matthews. His intensity and defense will push Brandon Roy to new heights. Also, he gives the bench some much needed stability.

    Western Conference:
    1- Lakers
    2- Mavericks
    3- Trail Blazers
    4- Rockets
    5- Thunder
    6- Spurs

    3rd, I like it.
But we can take the Mavs, 2nd place in the conference has a nicer sound to it.

    I got
1st Lakers (only cause they got Steve Blake, otherwise I always put the Blazers in first)
2nd Blazers (and U know 'dis)
    3rd OKC (yup)
4th Spurs (Like a fine wine that's vintagely aged, they can still win a lot of games)
5th Mavs (Spurs and Rockets will sweep the Mavs in the season series, demorlizing Nabisco, and Jason Terry will have too many hissy fits)
6th Suns (Turkyglu impresses some, and makes others fall asleep, but manages 19ppg)
7th Nuggets (they'll probably do better, but I'm runnin' out of bad things to say)
8th Hornets (it's all about Quincy Pondexter, that kid's for real)
I am a fan of multiple All-Stars on the Blazers roster this season!

X-Factor: Andre/Roy Chemistry. No more drama with Blake and Andre and debating who's starting. Both players realize they both need to sacrifice some and I think they will take the team deep into the playoffs.

    West-
    1-LA

Honestly, I know we had several wins due to the play of Juwan Howard last year but we missed a combined 311 games due to injury.

I have to believe that we would have won at least 7 more games last year had we not missed so many games. Getting Greg and Joel back will shore up the middle. Marcus is still here and will be a huge factor. Don't forget about Jeff. He will bring energy night in and night out, as long as he plays.

Wesley Matthews will indeed cause Brandon to elevate his game to new heights.

As long as we stay healthy this year, I have the Blazers winning the western conference.

I think Boston will win out over Miami strictly because there will be a chemistry problems mid-way through the season in Miami.

Other teams have proven time and again that you can't buy a championship. Miami is dangerous though.

With the Blazers youth, I have them losing in the western conference finals in game 6. We still need some experience but are getting close.

Portland will win 58 games this year.

Finals - Lakers + 3 offials + the league's front office will win over Boston in game 7

The Blazers are on the right track with their new slogan: "To get where we have never been, we must do what we have never done."

When its all said and done, 55-57 wins is where I see the team at.

With that win total, the Division should be ours...but it will be competitive just like last year.

I'm with Clyde that we should be able to overtake the Mavs for #2 in the Conference.

    X-Factors: Matthews, Batum, Babbitt.

    WC:
1-Lakers: They are still the team to beat.
2-Mavericks: They'll win games in the regular season for sure.
3-Blazers: I'll be honest it was hard to put us in third
4-Jazz: This team seems to be overlooked. They added Al Jefferson...but it remains to be seen if he can produce on a WINNING team. Then again there is Deron Williams there.
5-Spurs: This may seem a bit high, but if they can remain healthy they will win.
6-Thunder: No comment. Just Kevin Durant.
And from here I'm just not going to comment. Right now as it stands it's a toss up for me.

Celtics have the bigs to disrupt Miami's offensive and defensive flow. Bosh and Joel Anthony/Big Z is just a finesse, non-intimidating frontcourt. Perkins, Shaq, JO, and KG all are physically tough players that could wear them down over the course of a 7 game series.

    Assuming no injuries or trades...

La/Miami in the finals, which I greatly look forward to watching, and LA in 7.

Blazers will face Texas teams in the playoffs.  It will get rowdy.  We'll win every post season series where we have home court.

    West:

    1 - Kobe
    2 - Denver
    3 - Dallas
    4 - BLAZERS
    5 - Houston
    6 - Sonics
    7 - San Antonio
    8 - Utah

The words "Oklahoma, City, or Thunder," are not in my goddamn vocabulary.  That team belongs in Seattle.  Clay Bennet is a thief and deserves none of the talent his team has.  I will henceforth refer to that team as the Seattle Supersonics.

Western conference will be competitive.  If I was in a different mood, I could put the Spurs at 2 in the west.  I feel bad leaving out the Hornets.  The only sure thing is that Minnesota will suck, the refs will miss calls, and someone, somewhere, is going down for the season, and they're going down early.  I hope it's Yao.  Houston is ugly.

I am a fan of Penderbeast makin an All-Star bid for 2013.

Blazers will win 50 games this season because of Roy, our defense, and style of play. This will make us the 5th or 6th seed and we will lose in the first round again. WHY do i believe this, because I'm not sold on our ability to score in the paint and get easy baskets. I think we will have a hard time scoring easy baskets since we didn't add a low post threat. LA's muscle won't do it and Oden is a big ? JP is out for the season. The big problem we have had for awhile now, that wasn't addressed in the off season, was inside scoring by a non guard. We didn't get a P.F. that will work like a dog to score. We have a line up that consists of guards who will do the scoring on this team, I don't think this will get it done for a Championship run. If oden can get 20 by the end of the season and into the play offs we can go a bit further, but I doubt Oden's ability at this point in his career. sorry I wish it was going to be different for this team.

    a couple of points:

    * if the blazers had won just one additional game for each major player who was injured last year (Greg, Joel, Brandon, Nicolas and Rudy), they would have finished at 55-27, tied with dallas, and would have claimed the second seed by virtue of the tiebreaker against the mavs. this would include winning the division.

    * Blake's inconsistency will hurt, not help the lakers.

    * according to Joel after his first full-contact practice on oct. 10, he's not ruling out appearing in the season opener. this likely means he'll be available to us within the first five games of the season.

    * the blazers will win 57 games this season.

now to the finishers in the western conference:

    1. lakers
    2. blazers
    3. mavericks
    4. jazz
    5. thunder
    6. nuggets
    7. spurs
    8. rockets

    eastern conference:

    1. heat
    2. celtics
    3. bucks
    4. magic
    5. bulls
    6. hawks
    7. cavaliers
    8. bobcats

assuming Anthony stays a nugget ...

    first round:
    lakers over rockets
    blazers over spurs
    mavericks over nuggets
    thunder over jazz
    heat over bobcats
    celtics over cavs
    hawks over bucks
    bulls over magic

    second round:
    lakers over thunder
    blazers over mavericks
    heat over bulls
    celtics over hawks

    conference championship:
the officlals ... oops, i mean the lakers ... over blazers
    heat over celtics

    nba championship:
    heat over lakers

    mvp: Durant, thunder
    roy: Wall, wizards
    mip: Aldridge, blazers
dpy: Howard, magic (would love to put Nicolas or Wesley in here though!)
    coy: Skiles, bucks

if all healthy -western confernce champs definitely possible

    MVP-Durant
    ROY-Wall
    6th man-Wesley Matthews

    Western Conference standings:

    1. Lakers
    2. Blazers
    3. Jazz
    4. Mavs
    5. Thunder
    6. Nuggets(assuming they keep anthony.  I still think this is the highest they will go since Harrington, K-mart, and Birdman are all going to start the season on the disabled list.)
    7. Rockets
    8. Spurs

For the playoffs I think the Blazers will win the first 1 or 2 rounds deppending on the matchups and eventually lose to either L.A. or Utah.

My finals prediction is that the Magic upset the Heat since Mario Chalmers will get outplayed by jameer nelson and Dwight Howard will rack up more points, Boards, and blocks than all of the Heat centers combined ( Unless the Heat end up signing Dampier).

For the finals I think it will be Lakers vs. Magic and the Lakers will win in six since they have a center that can compete with howard, arguably the best power forward in the game in Pau Gasol, Ron Artest can shutdown Lewis or Carter, and obviously Kobe is way better than Carter and JJ redick.  The only positions where the magic have the advantage is pg and center.  Also I think the Lakers bench is as good as any in the nba now that they added Blake, Barnes, and Ratliff, they still have Shannon Brown and Odom, and Devin Ebanks and Derick Character, from what iv've seen of them in college, look like they could become very solid players in the nba.
Miami might win in 2 or 3 years since the Lakers are'nt getting any younger, but for the next year or two I think the Lakers are still going to come out on top.

I am a fan of the Blazers draft selections. Feels good to finally be able to say that

*conference finals predictions.  Also the Blazers might actually matchup better than any other team against the Lakers so they could pull the upset, but I still wouldnt count on it.  But still, Miller is better than fisher or Blake, Roy is still not on the same level as Kobe but he is close, Artest and Batum are reasonably even, although I think artest is probably a little better, Aldridge and Gasol are pretty Comparable, and Bynum and Oden are pretty equal, and the Blazers and Lakers benches are about equally good.  Who knows, maybe the blazers will pull the upset and make it all the way to the finals.  I personally don't care whether or not the Blazers end up beating the Lakers since I am a fan of both, but it would be kind of nice to see the Blazers get a chance to show what they can do in a finals series against one of the best eastern conference teams like the Heat, Magic or Celtics.
