Just cruising around the NBA website (even with the world championships happening it all seems a bit slow in the basketball world) and found this article. Good read, especially since it mentions the Blazers and the strength of our bench.

    http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/shaun_powell/09/01/NBAs.best.benches/index.html

The opening starting five on opening night would most likely be:

    PG: Miller
    SG: Roy
    SF: Batum
    PF: Aldridge
    C: Camby

    With the second unit being:

    PG: Jerryd Bayless
    SG: Wesley Matthews
    SF: Dante Cunningham
    PF: Jeff Pendergraph
    C: Greg Oden

Throw in Pryzbilla, Williams, Johnson, Mills and Babbitt its evident why we have one of the deepest benches in the league. The only issue i have is that Nate needs to develop more trust in the second unit.

I personaly think the starting 5 will b:

    PG: A.Miller
    SG: B.Roy
    SF: N.Batum
    PF: L.Aldridge
    C: G.Oden

    And the second unit:

    PG: J.Bayless
    SG: W.Matthews
    SF: L.Babbit
    PF: M.Camby
    C:  J.Pryzbilla

And this is with me assuming Rudy will b traded, And if we do trade him it should b for a veteran Small forward. But wesly is probably gonna back-up Batum and roy

I dont think Oden will be a starter until at least 10 or so games if not more... Look for the coaching staff to limit Greg's minutes and test out that knee, keeping in mind that when Oden was on the floor for extended periods he committed a lot of fouls

I saw the poll of "which team has the best bench?" Portland gets no national love, I tell ya.

The nation would recognize the Blazers' bench power if Nate played them more.  Look at the trust Lionel Hollins has in his second unit on the Suns!  I don't even think their bench is as good as ours!  They're just a bunch of 3-point shooters!

Hollin's should stay focused on the Grizs' bench, and not worry about the Suns bench too much. I think our bench is good, but not great. I wonder where the offense is going to come (other than  the guards), and since Oden won't be around for a while, how do we really play the 5 when Camby is out. I love the starters though, and I think that bench is solid defensively. They should be able to hang in there and not let things get out of control while we rotate the starters back in.

OOPS.  I get Alvin Gentry and Lionel Hollins mixed up for some reason.

I agree with one exception. Cunningham in place of Babbitt. That is a serious loaded defensive unit.

i dont think bayless is as good as armon on defense and babbit might be on the second unit just to put a 3 point threat in there

Dont think they trade him for JJ tho, they can just sign Hickson.

I would agree LMA is a decent defender but his help defense and team defense needs a lot of work. It is in these areas that Bosh really separates himself from LMA and it is because of that he is a better player than LMA despite not putting the sam...

I was looking at some shooting stats and came across a very very alarming stat. LMA was the league leader in FGA from 16-23 feet. Not only was he the leader he was lead by a mile. His 7.3 attempts from this distance easily outpaced Demar Derozan w...

Sug I would start with him outscoring Wesley Matthews. He also needs to get his FTA up and his FG% up and cut down the turnovers.

His defense was decent last year but not that good as he is either too weak or just unwil...
