Where Does Brandon Roy Rank Among The NBA's Best Shooting Guards?
    #1 (Simply The Best) (11)
#2 (Behind Wade or Kobe) (19)
    #3 (Behind Wade & Kobe) (46)
    Top 5 (14)
    Top 10 (3)

Over at Ball Don't Lie, they recently listed Andre as the 14th best point guard and have now moved onto the shooting guards. There are no surprised who were ranked #1 and #2, but they listed Roy pretty firmly at #3, even though he's coming off arguably his worst season since his rookie year. On one hand, it's good he's still so highly thought of and well-respected that he gets this kind of media treatment, but on the other hand, as fans we hope he can bounce back from his 2010 campaign and that, that season was the exception and not the norm.

Here's what they had to say:
Roy took a bit of a step back in 2009-10, but, if anything, it pointed out that his all-world play in 2008-09 might be a bit of an aberration and last season is more of the norm. But what a norm it is -- 26 other teams would kill for that "norm." Roy averaged 21.5 points and 9.1 combined assists/rebounds on a team with the fewest possessions per game. The injuries worry the heck out of me, but let's not get into that until we have to, OK?

Do you agree with the ranking? Is 3 right where he stands? Maybe more importantly, is 3 the highest he'll ever reach? I don't think so. I think we see a revitalized Roy this season and if Kobe continues on the decline, he'll move up a spot where he'll battle D-Wade for the right to be called the best shooting guard in the league. But Brandon needs to work on his defense. Guys like Kobe give it all on both ends of the court, something that takes a lot of time and maturation. Its a process. I don't expect it right away from Roy, esp with Camby, Oden, Matthews, and Batum on the same team as him but once some of the offensive burden is lifted off of his shoulders, we'll see a better Roy on the defensive end of the court.  If he can lead us to a WCF or dare I say championship (!), I don't think there will be any debate, he'll be the best of the best at the shooting guard position. I don't think Wade topping Wade in insurmountable.

I voted for Top 5, but that could still mean #3.  I just thought I'd add in a "cushion" in there, but definitely, Roy is pretty cold.  Other than Wade and Kobe, who else is better than Roy?  Besides, isn't he an efficient scorer?
Not thinking about it much now, but we should.... We should be thinking on how to get some of the Phoenix's training staffs' secrets.  This was something mentioned a while ago.  If all our team can even get some of those trainings, hopefully it'll help improve their health and abilities, thus, encouraging our players to play harder.

Kobe is still the best player in the game no doubt... and you cant put roy over wade anytime soon until he wins a championship... but other than that there is no better SG than roy in the league. He is easily number 3 but wouldn't move up until he takes us further into the playoffs and when kobe retires. I know blazer fans are supposed to "hate" the lakers, but Kobe is definitely one of my favorite players in the league... i dont see how people dont like his game

B-Roy is one of the best. He is my favourite player and deffinately one of the top 3 shooting guards in the league. Now, I'm from Australia, and I'm a HUGE Blazer fan. I try and watch every game and everytime i do, Roy just amazes me. In 08-09, he was great. In 09-10, he was just good. But he is a great player. He'll be back to his 08-09 level in no time.

Well, I think they put him right where he should be. Quality SGs aren't exactly in abundance, and Roy is definitely way up there. I can't put him above Wade or Kobe, but I can at #3 without even blinking an eye. Can he surpass Kobe? Sure, especially as Kobe enters his twilight years. Wade? Umm....I don't think so. However, if his defensive ability improves, and he doesn't have any more serious injuries, it could maybe happen. Sometimes, when I think about where this team is headed, and consider what happened in Miami this off-season, I am reminded of our Drexler-Porter squad having their dreams squashed by Detroit and the almighty Bulls. It's certainly not a stretch to see the Wade-Lebron-Bosh tandem as equal to the Pippen-Jordan tandem. Anyway, I fully expect Roy to have a spectacular year!

There is no way Roy is better than D wade or Kobe.  Whoever voted Roy #1 is retarted.  He is good, but Kobe is just on a completely different level from every other player in the game, lebron included. While Wade in my opinion is tied with Lebron as a distant second.  Roy is an excellent player but he is not even near where Kobe or even Wade is at, and I don't tink he ever will be, because he does not have that same quick first step and explossiveness as Kobe and dwyane.

Roy doesn't have a quick first step? That's the quickest part of his game is his first step and killer cross-over. You don't need to be the quickest to be the best. Look at Kobe. He's in his twilight years but still the best player in the league. He's not as quick as he was before but still can drop 30 on you in a flash.

Here's the thing with Brandon. He's waaaay too much of a team player. I would love to see him keep the ball a little more and light up the score board. I bet then people would be talking about him maybe being better than Wade. Roy's offensive skill set rivals that of Kobe..but Kobe is just waaay ahead. He can post up, roll left pull up and shoot. Roll right pull up and shoot. Take you on the triple threat, go both ways, pop it in your face. Cross you up, finish strong at the cup. And he can dish the rock. Unstoppable offensive game.

I can understand if people don't think he's higher than the #3 shooting guard, but who else would be better than him than Wade or Kobe? After last year's playoff performances, Joe Johnson has no business being mentioned in the Top 3 and Tyreke Evans is still too young.

B Roy is a franchise player, if we could get a point guard that complimented his game, he could become the best SG in the NBA, but he's not there yet.

Third is right.  Kobe and Wade are unquestionably better players; they've both won championships and they play defense.  Roy is also an incredible player who can do a little bit of everything; we've all seen it.  Parts of his game are better than Kobe and Wade's, such as his left hand and fourth quarter heroics (not better than Kobe).  These are, unfortunatley, not enough to make me think he's a better player than Wade and Kobe.  Those two guys are more intense, aren't as afraid of contact, and aren't as injury-prone.
Brandon is comfortably holding on to the three spot, though.  Joe Johnson isn't even close to Brandon.  Plus, he's a few years older.  The Hawks definitely shouldn't have signed him to that monster contract.  By the end of it, he'll be averaging ten a game.  The only person I could ever see surpassing Roy in the next two years would be Tyreke Evans, assuming he doesn't kill himself racing at 150 MPH.

3rd, behind Wade and Kobe. If he can lead us out of the 1st round this year and Kobe slows down due to age, he'll be #2 next summer. The main thing is that he's got to get us deeper into the playoffs. That is what elite level players do.

I agree with Bertram that he is to much of a team player sometimes.  It ussualy is good to be a team player and try to get everyone involved but When basically the entire team is cold and the other team is double teaming Roy, he needs to be less leniant and try to split the double and score.  What makes Kobe so dangerous is that he can score and light up the oppsing team no matter what they throw at him on d.  Even when people double team him he can split the double or just step back and nail the fader, and when he does get way overplayed he finds his teamates for the open layup/dunk.  Until Roy starts torching the d even when they are overplaying him he will not be on the same level as Kobe or Wade.  Untill/if he figures out how to do that he will be #3 behind Kobe and Wade and will most likely always be scoring under 25 points per game.

I think Roy could be No.3 for more reasons than you normaly praise a shooting guard. Think about what happens when roy steps on the floor. He gives confidence to the rest of the team. He gives us a certain flow in our play style. And he is able to make plays. Anytime the ball is in his hands, the entire defense changes and puts 2 or 3 guys on him (also known as the B-Roy Effect) which opens up 1 or 2 other players for the perimeter shot or for an easier drive to the hoop. He has good passing skills and great eyes to find the open man. The first season he did so well because no one double/tripple teamed him. This last season, even with the injuries and with the double teams and tripple teams, he averaged over 20 points per game. That is what makes him so appealing and up there with the great shooting guards. The other thing I like about Roy, is he doesn't care about the spot light like most play makers in the NBA do. He wants what is best for his team and to win and is willing to step back and not worry about his stats or making the ESPN highlight reel. We focus too much on what a players stats are and not what they accomplish and are able to bring a team.
My biggest and only worry with Roy is his health. If he takes one more injury like last year, he could be done for good and that would be a shame given his young age and his potential assuming he stays healthy.

So I rate him around 5 or 6 stat wise.. but if you look at the whole picture. I rate him 3 or even 2. Not even Kobe makes teams double or tripple team him all of the time.

I know a lot of people think joe johnson is better than B-Roy but i know for a fact B-Roy is alot better than joe. D-Wade and Kobe are ahead of Roy but its not by a whole lot Roy could pass up Wade if he could take over a little more and average 25+. i under stand other player on the team have to score to but when you have a guy like B-Roy some players should take a back seat. I dont mean aldridge because he could be an all-star if he could step up his game to.

I just found this line Super funny. thats all.

Roy is probably the Number one SG off the court, countless times in interviews and post games shows you see this guy getting all the praise in the world, Probably the MOST down to earth guy in the NBA, and its because he's just your average guy with your Above Average, WAY above average, ball skills, you know, he's not some Phenom who was tearin shit up in College, and he's not some dream-team kid outta high school.

On the court, he probably ranks in the top 5, for me 3. He's got some speed, a beauty of a J, the guy can connect on the long ball, and he isnt afraid of driving down the lane looking for a little contact. He's almost not better at any one aspect of the game, i mean the only thing i can think of is with his back to the basket, weve seen Kobe and DWade make that shot, but we and me personally havent seen  BRoy make it enough. And thats okay, post game isnt a crucial aspect of a good SG, unless your Kobe Bryant.
Talkin about Kobe in the Twilight, ha, ive been known to rag on the Kobster, but the guy is immaculate at times, i wouldnt know how to approach the problem he has, but i think its too late anyway, he is already molded. I give Kobe either till he's 35 or 36, or until he passes Kareem on that All Time Scoring List.
Wade is a different story, he is still young, Kobe's 32, Wades 28, you know. And Wade has already had a tremendous amount of success in his career, and now he's ridin with the King so i can only imagine......

how can u say that Kobe is better than JBJ? If you were smart enough to look at the statistics you would see that LBJ is better in Scoring, gets more blocks and steals, and pulls down more boards. Look at the stats!!!
