    Blazers Interested In Thomas
Says we would only be using expiring contracts to lure the Bulls into a deal. Apparently, we love his youth and shot-blocking abilities. Also, he is a restricted free agent, so we could match any contract offer, which would be a plus.
I don't think Blake or Outlaw and 2nd round picks will get it done though. If KP wants him, we'll definitely have to throw in a 1st round pick to entice them.
He looked great last year in the playoffs against Boston, but where does he fit? I like his "nastiness" on the court, but can be play the 5 in certain times, because Dante has the 3/4 combo on lock.

    From HoopsHype:
"Portland has joined San Antonio, Denver, Charlotte, and Sacramento in the pursuit of Tyrus Thomas, with one person familiar with the situation characterizing the Blazers as “close” to finding a workable scenario. Rival execs have contradicted that account, saying the Bulls are telling them they need to sweeten their offers. Chicago is seeking a quality draft pick in addition to cap relief. Denver and Charlotte have conditional 2010 second-round picks from previous trades, and Denver also could offer a second-round pick that can be swapped with the Clippers."

It looks like we could offer an expiring and a future 1st and this could get done. It would be pretty cool to have so many good players from the 06 draft class!

I wonder if this is smokescreen or legit? I wouldn't want to deal Outlaw for Thomas, as we really need Outlaw's 4th quarter scoring, but I'd go Blake and a future lotto protected 1st in an instant. Thomas is a bit undersized, but he is a great shot blocker and rebounder who can play spot minutes a center. Since 7'fters are so rare and difficult to obtain, it would be nice to have him there for insurance next year for Greg and Joel, especially since Juwan may hang them up as well.

Then who will run the offense if you have your way and trade Blake? Are you off your meds?
    Geeezzz!

Most likely it would be the same person who is currently running the offense: Andre Miller
Dre is averaging about 16 pts, 7 dimes, and 4 rebs since the New Year..if that's not running the offense, then I don't know what is.
Steve Blake is a nice role player, but he really is more of a shooting guard in a point guards body, like Damon Stoudamire. He is much better at spotting up and shooting than creating for others.

I guess what Blake did in Phoenix was just a mirage. Just when you think the Blazers are cooked Blake turns in a gem of a performance, like he did much of the season last year. To say he can't pass is just plain wrong. He gets the whole team involved better than Miller. Sure, he's a three point shooter, probably the best on this Blazer team, but he passes first, shoots second. Miller just hasn't been the guy they really wanted. I know, injuries, but watching Blake at Phoenix was the best performance on the point this year. I haven't seen Miller plaly point like that all year. He's really a #2 guard, plays like Roy & Bayless, slashing to the rack and creating contact. IMO, the best point man on this team is Blake. I don't think you trade him. The Blazers are stacked at the #2 guard position, Bayless, Rudy or Webster should be considered, along with a draft pick if they are to get that big man they really need.

I just don't see the value here.  He is a decent big but a potential cancer and what happens next year when Joel and GO are back?

Travis is the exact opposite, much of his value in my mind is his addition to team chemistry and his benefits in the locker room as well as on the court.

Check out the latest from Y! Sports, as there are reports there could be a 3 way deal between Portland, LA, and Chicago brewing: Timberwolves could make bid for Thomas

Here’s something else to watch: The Portland Trail Blazers were telling teams over the weekend they had a chance to acquire Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic(notes) and wondered whether teams might have an interest in obtaining him. This prompted several executives to suggest the Blazers were working on a three-team trade, including one Eastern Conference general manager who had been told the elements of the package included Thomas and Vujacic to Portland, the Bulls’ Kirk Hinrich(notes) to Los Angeles and the Lakers’ Adam Morrison(notes), another expiring deal and a first-round pick to the Bulls.

“What has, or will kill this,” one GM said, “is that Portland just won’t take Vujacic on.”

It looks like Thomas is not just a smokescreeen....

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...
