    1982-83: Overall record: 46-36 (9th in league, 5th in conference, 4th in division)
    For the first time since winning the NBA championship in 1977, the Trail Blazers advanced beyond one round of action in post-season play. Finishing the regular season at 46-36, the most wins sincethe 1977-78 campaign, the Blazers took two straight from the fourth-seeded Seattle SuperSonics in the playoff's first round to advance to the Western Conference semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers.     Even though they finished the year at 42-40, two games above .500, the 1981-82 Trail Blazers became the first Portland team to miss the NBA Playoffs in six seasons.     83 wins because they advanced further in the playoffs and had more wins. When teams are so close chronologically, you have to break it down via playoff performance followed by regular season actions.

    Not even being born when these two teams played ball makes it a difficult choice, so like you, I just went with the fact they had a deeper playoff run and more wins.
