Time to vote on new match-ups. Today is the 1984-85 vs 1978-79 teams. Vote on who you think would win AND tell us why you voted that way. You might be able to sway some of your fellow Blazermaniacs to vote with you.

1984-85: Overall record: 42-40 (tie, 9th in league, 5th in conference, 2nd in division) Biggest news of the 1984-85 season was the blockbuster trade that took place during the summer. To acquire Kiki Vandeweghe, the NBA's No. 3 scorer the previous season with a 29.4 ppg average, the Blazers sent to Denver Calvin Natt, Lafayette Lever and Wayne Cooper plus two draft choices. 1978-79: Overall record: 45-37 (10th in league, 6th in conference, 4th in division) Two of top front-court performers were onlookers for most of the season while two rookies stepped forward as the Blazers made it into post-season action for the third straight year. Bill Walton, 1977-78 league MVP, missed the entire campaign with an ankle injury, and Lloyd Neal, Mr. Reliable in the paint for Portland for seven seasons, played just four games before going to the sidelines for good with ailing knees. He retired at the end of the season. CONTINUE READING/Become of fan of this team

I just don't think 79 would be able to win with Walton out injured. The 85 team is my pick, because they had scoring threats galore in Drexler and Kiki. Also, they picked up Kersey and Bowie in the draft and even though Bowie was a bust, he was 3rd in the league in blocks his rookie year which gave the 85 team an advantage over the 79 team without Bill Walton manning the middle.

Yea, this question becomes pretty moot when you consider the best player in either matchup is done with an ankle injury. Although the 79 team managed to have a better record, I just think 85 would have too much firepower for 79 to contain, even with an All-Star in Maurice Lucas.

WTF do you call Tim Duncan. The dude is arguably the best PF in NBA history, I guess I did not realize that all this time he was making first team all NBA ballots that he was not a superstar.

The rules limit the effectiveness of defenders these days Blaser. Lebron would win defensive player of the year every year if he could hand check people and hold on to his man like the old days.

Wow some serious high hopes for JJ there.

@Cailin Isn''t a little ironic that the Heat are on pace to win a second straight NBA title despite being the worst rebounding team statistically in the NBA this season.

I would trade the pick, the team is in rebuild mode and I am not sure Burke is the guy I really want on my team. Since my team needs a PG a PF and maybe a SG depending on how they feel about Afflalo still.

Want to talk about trade LA possibilities then maybe it is time to reexamine the Cavs as an option for LA. Can get pick #1 and some pieces or work out a three way trade with the Bucks and Cavs. If we could end up with Thompson, Gee and Sanders for...

Considering that is the only aggressive thing he has ever done in his life, it is not likely he will do anything. Maybe if he did I might respect him more. But its alright enjoy your higher ticket prices to pay this joker 11 million a year.

Right now, the most realistic is Asik. If Houston pursue D12, sign and trade JJ and a couple second round picks, maybe Joel Freeland or somebody for Asik.
