Ok so I know everyone has covered this topic to death, but I feel I gotta mention this. The entire argument seems to be between Blake or Miller as starting guard. How about giving Rudy a look? I mean, check it out. The guy has crazy passing ability, including trick passes that you gotta watch replays to catch, except the other guys seem to see them. And just look at his numbers. WAY more points than Blake almost every game, usually more assists than Miller, almost always at least a steal or two, couple rebounds, I mean from a sheer stat perspective he crushes both guards. He has consistently been THE guy off the bench all season, now that Travis is out, to get something going. And if the defenders hang in the paint, how many Rudy threes have we seen just buried, even if they DO come out on him? I just think in our current times with trying to find the right starting five, and coming up short alot, why not give a few looks to some of our other guards to find the right combination? Rudy has tons of energy, he seems to be the one who tries to get it going when nothing is meshing, and he flat out never quits. I think he deserves the chance to try and bring cohesion to a sometimes fragmented starting lineup. Anyhow, let me know if any of you out there have anything to add, or just to tell me I'm wrong, that's ok too! :)

One last thing I forgot to add. Blake's job is to basically pass, and if they don't come out on him, hit a three. Well, Rudy trick between the legs passes,.......most 3's scored by a rookie last year...... yeah, there you go. AND when he drives to the hoop and doesn't pass, he actually TRIES for a bucket rather than just circle the wagons. ANd almost always comes away with either 2 points, or foul shots.......There, that's all. :)

i think that is a decent idea.
as much as i was glad to see miller here at the start of the season, he isn't right for this team. he doesn't spread the floor enough and since he's been here we've seen roy's points drop. blake is a solid back-up, but has no business being a starting PG in the NBA.
if nate started miller and told him to look for roy more that might help the situation, but i like the idea of putting rudy in the lineup and swinging him or roy to PG. Roy is a player that is most effective with the ball in his hands, so why not insure that he touches it every possession by putting him at that position? rudy works well without the ball, can spread the floor far beyond what blake and miller can do, and plays solid defense. i say give that line up a shot.
i think we're gonna see some changes here soon. roy obviously isn't happy with nate, miller obviously isn't happy with nate, and roy and miller can't seem to play well together. my guess is we're gonna see nate, or miller go, most likely miller. if all else fails, bayless proved he can contribute, and we should start to develop him more.

another opinion of mine, that i think might help our issues, is that we need more of a vocal leader on the floor. brandon and lamarcus are too quiet. as much as i hate kevin garnett, this team needs someone with his attitude and intensity that isn't afraid to call people out during a game and tell them what they need to do to be successful. kobe does it, lebron does it, chris paul does it, jordan did it. if roy wants to be mentioned with that group of players, as he says he does, he needs to step up his leadership.

I agree with your last point wholeheartedly. Joel did just that last year, if you remember. He was VERY vocal, and called guys out alot. I wonder if not starting is the reason he's not as involved....

Interesting thought.  But I don't think Rudy at point is going to do it.  (And check my starting five since preseason if you think I'm just overreacting.)  But Rudy is no pg.  The Spanish point guards (Rubio and Caulderon) are a very different breed from Rudy.  Honestly, it makes more sense to bench BRoy for Rudy for a game or two, just to get BRoy's head out'his rear.

Honestly though - based on the real lack of love we've given Rudy so far as pt is concerned, from day one, including making Outlaw our 4th quarter sub over him - the reality is that if this keeps up he ain't resigning when his contract is up, and he will sign with someone who will start him and give him the green light.  Anyone who watched the Olympics gm game should know that we have the most dominant pure scorer on the Spanish team if not arguably their best player.  I mean, look what LA has done with lanky hairy white guy Pau.  They didn't start coach-favorties over him becuase Phil is smart enough to know that favorites gets you players who don't learn.  They put that guy straight in and know he's doing jams on the NBALIVE 2010 commercial that we all know he can't even close to do in RL.  But here we sit with a guy who could do those dunks, hit the three, has mad clutch rating, and could start for nearly any team in the league (or at the very least be Jason Terry #2.  (Heck - even the guys in the NBA front office knew enough to put him into the dunk contest in his rookie season, (and if they'd had enough of a brain to get a native spanish speaker to fill him in on how you compete in that contest by not doing your toughest dunk first with a player from your arch-rival team, he might not have had the announcers making racial slurs about european white guys.)

Anycase - I like the thought, but I'm not sure I see it.  What did we bring Miller here for?  Just to hurt Philly's feelings?  A fit of insane rage over Turk-rejection?  Andre should have had the starting role from the get of the preseason, with the word being: give the ball to BRoy and LA, and get to the foul line.  If he stunk it up and Blake kicked his rear in practice, then Steve could earn the spot back.  But we didn't bring a quality seasoned pg to town to sit the bench while we get blown out by 30 (though admittedly, his shot selection was abysmal.)

And hey - I like Steve.  He has much Kungfu.  You don't play pg in the NBA at all unless you got mad skills.  I can think of a lot of college star pg's that haven't had half the career that Blake has - say, Jacque Vaghn for instance.  And Steve's a dynamite backup pg.  Stellar.  Phenomenal.  Off the carts.  Whereas look what happened to Philly simply with the loss of Miller at the reigns of the offense.  Look at Igoudala's numbers this year!  The case is more than closed.

The coachstaff should take a chance on what the frontoffice obviously thought was a good idea before we start finding a new way to tell Rudy that he's better off with someone who actually knows who he is.

And wasn't McMillan on the bench for that gm game?  That was his player dropping bombs against him.  What's it take coach?  What's it take?  Put me in the game!  I got skillz!

"we have the most dominant pure scorer on the Spanish team" yadda yadda yadda and who cares?  I forgot to say it clear, the Spanish team that went head to head with Kobe, Lebron, Superman, and CP3 on the floor AT THE SAME TIME, and only lost becasue Dwayne Wade is the best (player) 6th man on the planet.

This guy ain't no second year gumba.  He's a great player who plays team ball - so he'll play with us while he's under contract just like Rubio's gonna rock out in Europe while he's under contract.  But don't be under any delusions: those of us who love Rudy need to start calling his name or he's gonna skip this town.

benching roy won't solve anything. he has a right to be upset. he's the best player on the team and he's not getting his number called, while he watches the team fall apart. if anything we need him to be more aggressive.

I agree, mostly, RCJake.  But if he's not getting his number called, then why is he passing up open looks?

I agree Andre Miller isn't working it. He needs to but put on the trading block pronto. Roy will not ride the bench, thats insane. We want to win. I'm sure Roy is coming to grips after losing back to back games to teams that we should be beating by double digits. I came to the same conclusion a week or so ago. Rudy at the point. I don't see why we don't experiment with it. Last year in clutch situations we had a similar lineup that was great offensively and defensively. 1 Roy 2 Rudy 3 Outlaw 4 LA 5 GO/Pryzz. That unit was the best defensive and offensive team we had. it makes sense to put Rudy at the 1. He is the best passer on the team, he generates turnovers, they guy could pick danny oceans pocket, and he'll always come clutch with a big 3 late in the game. Plus he's 6'6 he's got the size advantage over most other pg's in the league. With the problems we've been having lately, i don't see any other option that nate can consider, other than 1 Rudy 2 Roy 3 Webster 4 LA 5 Oden. and if rudy doesn't handle the ball as well, switch roy and rudy every once in a while. C'mon nate, we gotta keep rudy.

Let me clarify.  I didn't say "make Roy ride the bench."  I said, "If you need to send a starter a message, start him - and that should happen IF Brandon needs a message sent," which I never have actually granted.  But before we should start Rudy (the man) at point, we should bench BRoy to send a message.

Of course Roy shouldn't ride the bench.  That would be insane.

The problem with Rudy at point is that Rudy is not a point.  Look at his assist/to ration.  It's a bad idea.

Roy at point....maybe.  But hey...check out the 3rd interview on Barret's blog today.  It makes a lot of sense.
