ive read acouple articles and most of them have us finishing between spots 9-12 which means we would miss the playoffs which im confused about because we have a overall better team this year(on paper) then last year . i understand the west has gotten better but so have we. there are acouple teams in the west who i feel we can challenge and be better then frankly. we had a GREAT starting line up who could challenge any team in the nba which had no bench behind them and a undersized center, not to mention our starters were playing to many mins so injuries started to happen. we had to throw players in the fire when frankly they were not ready . but now i see all of our problems have been solved, we lose JJ and add Lopez we lose Smith, Palovic, Jeffries, Babbit, Price, add Crabbe, McCollum, Robinson, Wright, & Watson to go along with a better Lenoard, Barton, Claver, Lillard, and Freeland.

JJ Hickson( Lopez, brings size D and alittle bit of underrated scoring, and can bring some block shots which we really lacked, another big body to go along side LA takes pressure off LA to have to guard centers and is still really young on a cheap contract and didnt have to give up much to get him) UPGRADE

Smith( McCollum can score on any part of the court has to learn how to play the PG position but i think he will and hes gonna provide scoring off a bench we didnt have i know he/ll be better with alot of great players around him just has to be more of a pass first but i think he'll learn, needs time still very young. love that he wanted to be here and i think him and Lillard will be very hard to guard i think a better Jennings & Ellis combo when there in together.

Palovic(Wright is a SHOOTER thats what he does he can shoot i think Terry is gonna love him on this team, he can spread the floor and can play the two and three if we need him to, has size and again WANTS to be here i think he can be a good defender and is another person off the bench who can provide scoring fast ! remember just acouple years ago he set a record with 3's)

Babbit( Crabbe young athletic guard can play the two has good size for a shooting guard i think he can provide shooting and i think the summer league didnt display how good i think this kid can be hes only gonna get better he can only go nowhere but up.

Jeffries( Robinson a lottery pick who was traded twice in one season, i think this kid has alot of upside i think the teams were sure what they had and i think this is the perfect place for him NO pressure for him to put up all these big numbers just come in off the bench learn from a great PF in LA and rebound and bring a toughness this team doesnt have he'll be fine he will fit right in plus i want him to do good all the things hes been through)

Price(Watson vet leader and provides a professional at its best can get any better then that for our two young guards.

Williams(Terrell Harris showed promised in summer league i still think he can make this team.)

with that said i think we can make the playoffs with this team Lillard is gonna be better, LA is gonna be a beast Batum if healthy can be very very good and matthews another shooter that can knock down big shots and provide D . i feel there only a few teams that at this point our clear cut better then us .

-Houston, OKC, Spurs, Warriors, Clippers. The Grizzlies and Nuggets are good teams but i feel we can beat either of them, and Lakers, Timberwolves, & Mavs the Jury is out . i feel our starters can match up with any of these teams.

what we were missing last year was depth now we have that with a above Ave starting line up why couldnt we push a team to the limit. if Lillard takes his game to all star level, a healthy Batum playing like he did at the beginning of the year matthews staying the same, La getting alittle better on the boards, Lopez playing like he did last year providing size and D this team is playoff bound if the bench is even alittle better i think we can push for a 6-8 seed and we wouldnt be a team one of the top seeds would wanna see in the first round.

Lillard, Matthews, Batum, LA, Lopez second unit Lenoard, McColllum, Robinson, Wright, Barton, Claver better watch out looks like the blazers are back !

Great breakdown, Mistafab. I do believe this team improved a lot. It's tricky to judge these things on paper. On paper, the Felton, Crawford, Wallace team was a top 5 western team.

I do think we can make the playoffs. I think Olshey got the team to a place where they can take that step. Will it be a first round exit? Probably, but maybe not. I think this could be a better team than the Warriors had last year, and they got to the second round.

I think the reason for the 9-12 estimations is that 99% of analysts didn't know Nic and Wes were playing hurt last year. Plus people (including Blaser) can't imagine the Lakers missing the playoffs. They put them in by default. I personally can't imagine the Lakers MAKING the playoffs. Even with a healthy Kobe.

I think a few teams from last year showed some weaknesses that werent addressed. Us included obviously, but i like our changes just the same. Iggy going to Golden State is sickening. However him leaving the Nuggets is a good thing. Nate Robinson and Ty Lawson on the floor at the same time is going to be a problem.Jose Calderon and Monta Ellis make Dallas' backcourt formidable. If we're lucky, eighth seed. That means we have to be better than Dallas, Utah, and Minnesota.

Depending on the events of the next year we could end up 6th seed to 8th seed.  I just hope its 6th so we can prove every analyst wrong.

I think Dallas will tank for the lottery. They failed to get the pieces they wanted and don't be surprised if the Lakers, Nuggets and Jazz are not as good as they'll look on paper. Golden State will be a monster, so will the Clippers. I hope the Blazers have an impact early. Deeper roster, some chemistry in place, I think we're more than capable of being a playoff team. Stotts has something to work with this season and the sophmores should all be vastly improved.

Another thing is that even with our final record, we were in the fight for the 8th seed until the last 15 games or so. That 13 game losing streak didn't have to happen, but Stotts rested the beat up starters and the Blazers ended up with the 10th pick. It was the best thing to do for the team at that time. So on that train of thought, think that LAST YEAR's team at full capacity could've taken about half of those games and been a 39 or 40 win team. LAST YEAR. We at least improved by about 5 wins this year. So I say we're over .500 and a playoff team. 2nd round? That would depend on the first round match up and how well the bench really steps up this year.

I'm still convinced we can get a 6 or 7 seed. I can't see Dallas or the Lakers making a run at anything better than the 8th seed. The Spurs, Thunder, Clippers and Warriors are my picks for the top seeds. Houston will be in the mix but I have them grabbing the 5th seed. From there it's wide open. Memphis and Denver look set for a fall especially without their 50win coaches from last year. Then again, Memphis held onto its core and got a good shooter in Mike Miller. They could grab the 6th seed and make a series of it with either the Clips or Thinder in the 1st round.

I think we can beat any of the top teams. The Rose Garden is not n easy place for visiting teams to come to and win and with our great starting lineup and MUCH BETTER bench, we could win on the road and we can beat teams in a number of ways. I think this season is our best shot at getting into the playoffs and possibly making some noise when (not if) we get there. Everybody but the Spurs, Rockets, Warriors and Thu der went through coaching changes. If we can get a fast start and beat a few teams above us throughout the season,we can already start printing the white shirts for the first playoff game at the Rose Garden.

Last year we dropped a few winnable games against weak Eastern conference teams and a few more against the Kings, Hornets and Suns. If we can be above .500 against the East and win 9 or 10 division games then we will definitely be in the mix. The Jazz, Nuggets and Timberwolves are all beatable and we could definitely go the distance with OKC. Im definitely sure we can get a 6 or 7 seed and a first round win.

Am I the only one that thinks this team can win the division??? I think Oklahoma City will be our only competition within the division this season and their "western conference powerhouse" window has been closing very rapidly.. What if Russell Westbrook has a tough time coming back from his knee injury? If he losing even a little bit of his explosiveness, his game becomes rather limited. They severely missed James Harden last year, and lost the one scorer they had coming off the bench in Kevin Martin... I won't argue the fact that Kevin Durant is one of the best players in the world, but I don't think he can carry the team he has right now to a championship, or anywhere close. They needed to improve over the off season, an awful lot in my opinion, and they did next to nothing. Watch out. Blazers could snag the number 4 seed. Calling it right now.

I think theyve lost a step. OKC that is. Not only have they lost Martin, but i believe Westbrook can be neutralized by getting him into foul trouble chasing guards around. Especially when we play small. Teams who choose to play small will find it difficult to chase Dame and CJ off and through picks. Denver also will have Nate and Ty doing the same thing. Utah is going to look alot like we did last year. Minnesota picked up some pieces but i think we're better than they are. Pekovic cant bully Lopez either. It would be a beautiful thing to win the division. Think big !!!

Solid 12 deep team this season. Like I always say, this starting core can beat anybody! We have chemistry on our side as a lot of teams have new rosters, coaches, etc..the balance of power will shift this season and we've got a shot at doing some serious damage if we can win on the road.

blazers defense should be scary too. damian force other pg in a difficult shot like he shown at team usa camp. every starter should be a capable defense at worst. blazer offense should be beautiful. i think we can go up high as 4 seed, and low as 7 seed. expect a big year from damian lillard, and more 30 feet game winner by damian

Now that the schedule's out, I tallied up the can/should-win games and I'm slating the Blazers at 43-39, which should be enough for the 7th or 8th seed. Has the schedule changed anything in your minds?

I can see the Blazers picking up 6-7 spot in the west and putting some serious heat on the other teams.

Within the next few years if this core group stays together I can see a championship push. Blazers are going to be the smoky for the finals so let everyone write them off and then they can take everyone by surprise and get right up there!

I am a fan of Blazers challenging for the West Title over the next few seasons..!

50 wins is asking a bit much. I'd be really happy is we can get something close to 45 wins. Most important thing is to win division games. OKC will win the Northwest, I get that. But we can easily rack up 10 wins against Minny, Denver and Utah. And avoiding a sweep against OKC is not out of the question. We will definitely make the playoffs. A 7th seed is minimum

NOW I would put OUR bench up v. ANY of the opposition’s bench!  We went from league’s worst to NOW having a top 10 (I’m being conservative ;) bench EASY!  Just for funnsies, who’s got a better bench  as a whole v. us now?  This is my list off the top o’ my head:  Indy, Clips, GSW, Hou, SAS, Chi, & Den?  Who’s on ur list Blazer peeps?

I dont think Den or Houston is on the list of better benches this year.GSW lost Jarret Jack,Chi lost Nate,SAS lost Neal. The Clips made significant pickups in Reddick and Dudley.

@ commontongue, I forgot about some of the changes SAS & Nugs made (some of their guys off the bench r now gonna b starters i.e. Mcgee & Wilson Chandler), so that makes their bench much weaker (the only decent player on the bench will b either JJ or Fraied AND both have weaknesses that CAN b exploited! :)  I'm gonna stick w/ Hou being on my list, their bench is stronger than ppl think ;)  Even though GSW & Chi have lost some pwr in their benches, their benches will still b tuff to go against (I c our bench about on par w/ these 2 ;)  So w/ what u & I have said/thought ^, OUR bench is hovering somewhere around the ~7th best OR better!  :)  I LOVE it!!!  EVEN better v. what I had thought initially ;p

Absolutely Simpson. We are miles ahead of where we were last year and definitely better. One bonus that cant be discounted from now on is the great relationship Olshey has with so many good players. From D. Wright to Mo Will. And it doesnt stop there. I always keep in my mind that he made the Clips what they are today. Hopefully we can surpass them in regards to cohesion. They lost Caron Butler but gained Dudley. He'll start and Batum will guard him. Matt Barnes off the bench and we have D. Wright to match him . JJ Reddick is a phenominal 3 point shooter at sg, but W. Matthews when he is on can shoot with the best of them.Blake Griffin and Byron Mullens at the pf,we have L.A. and T-Rob. D. Jordan and Ryan Hollins in the pivot, we have Rolo and Leonard. They picked up Collison to back up CP3, and we now have Mo. I think we are going to have some great games against the Clips this year.
