My personal opinion about our eleventh pick from last years (2012) NBA draft  is a  big bust so far. I know it's  still early to judge Myers short stint in the league so far but from what I've seen from the summer league game yesterday is that  totally no improvement from last year. I mean the guy looked like he was lost on court the whole entire game . He was playing out of position couldn't  make a shot from five feet from the basket and beyond let alone not knowing the defense of scheme, and also couldn't even block   shot's . He also really need's to set better pick's during pick and rolls . How those this sound If we could  bring back Joel Przybilla to mentor him and definitely show em how to do the intangibles like doing the little things that doesn't show on the stat sheets like setting great picks and toughness.Well like i said  i know It's still to early to pass judgement on Myers but I just hope he'd stop being a scorer first and do the his primary job which is to rebound block shots and of course play solid defense and when he finally does that maybe I'll have a different mind set about Myers. So that being said I wish you Myers the best of luck this year and GO BLAZERS !!!!!

He does not look promising... He is athletic but doesn't use his body at all...he does not know where to be on offense or defense...he takes a lot of jumpers...pretty disappointing.. if only we had any of these other great center prospects..

In fairness to the team, this is the first game after a layoff and none of these guys has their game legs yet and most of them haven't played together but for a few hours. Meyers is not going to be starting anytime soon but this is an opportunity for the bench players to get some floor time and for the coaching staff to evaluate chemistry and weaknesses. Meyers has made some improvement defensively from what I've seen. Hopefully throughout these summer league games we'll see the rust shake off. Some of these guys are still jetlagged. Robinson especially showing up at the last minute for signing day. Harris too. I expect to see Barton have a statement game today.

Well it was another ugly one. Robinson got 10 boards, 2 blks, 7 pts..I liked that. Horrible 3pt shooting across the board. I'd have benched Leonard after that early 3 miss he had. That was uncalled for.

What is up with everyone ragging on Leonard? Is he even close to being a starting center in this league? Absolutely not. But, I remember watching the draft when he was picked and everyone said that he was going to be NBA ready in a few years. He was going to be a long term project. How could he be a bust when no one expected him to become a dominate center right away?

Leonard will be fine. I think everyone looks at Lillard and thinks Leonard should be at least showing something in his second year. How many times have we all heard that a takes bigs longer to develop. Most of us here are grown men and women,Leonard is a child. Remember that. All  big men cant be Shaq. They all cant be Hakeem. Lopez might be the best thing that happened to this kid.Im not saying Lopez is the best center in the game, but he has what Pryz had...no fear. He wont back down, and he'll play hard "D" and protect our rim as well as our little people. L.A. included. Summerleague means absolutely nothing to me other than i get to get my fix of hearing sneakers squeak on the hardwood. Its a gage to see who has what it takes to compete.Barton is eratic but at least he's in the game. If im worried about anyone it's Crabbe. Shooters always find a way to get their shot. Ray  Reggie and a young Rip will run your ass through so many screens and hard picks you become almost disinterested in chasing them around anymore. He better get with the program or he'll be one of Idaho's finest.

We can all say big men take a long time to develop, but there are actually a lot of big men around the same age as Meyers and are MILES ahead of him in terms of development. (Drummond, Sanders, Valinucianus, Vucuevic,)

I know I am being hard, but you either have it or not and I don't think Meyers has it... For a center he doesn't have the essential qualities. After a season you would think someone with his body and athletic abilities would be decent at Rebounding, Shot Blocking, Defense, Inside game... He doesn't seem like he is a basketball player tbh..he looks lost at all times... not fluent in his movements...not a natural

Meyers is going to be really really good with the right development it's just hard to see a 7'1 guy that young and athletic get 1 rebound against bench players in summer league in 3 qtrs. Summer league is always like that. The D league team in the competition is undefeated. D league guys are used to playing with a different roster every week or even few days. I admit, I expected Leonard to be a double double machine in summer league play and well...not yet. There's plenty  of camp before the season starts and hopefully, he'll step it up. @common...I watched little John Stockton crush Shawn Bradley in the paint once in a game but I guess Stockton weighed more than Bradley did.

Yeah, I'll admit Meyers is the kind of guy that will make the same mistake twice. He gets frustrated easily at foul calls, and for some reason the refs love to call him for ticky tacky things. That said, he's so early on in his career that I would say there's no grounds for calling him a bust or worthless. I'm way less concerned with slow development than I am with underperforming scrubs like chubby-ass Bynum or drama-queen Dwight. (Side note: Bynum with the fro right now looks like Kenan Thompson playing Fat Albert.)

This summer league has only told me one thing about our personnel, which is that David Vanterpool should never be a head coach.  For example, common, you mentioned Crabbe not running off screens to get open shots... what screens? I haven't seen a single off-ball pick set by a Blazer this summer league. I get that the wins aren't important, but when the coach makes ZERO adjustments during the game, the guys aren't going to learn how to adjust to competition. This is a wasted summer league and I think real NBA games are going to be what the doctor ordered for Meyers, T-Rob, Crabbe, even CJ who has done well in spite of the awful strategy. Guys move in Stotts system, and Crabbe and CJ will do a lot better. Meyers will get his look at meaningful minutes, and hopefully will show that he didn't waste the off-season.

Anyway, bigs take longer. Asik is 27 and didn't break out until his 3rd year in the league. Anderson Varejao took 6 seasons to show he was a legit starter when he was 28 and he was even in the "best center in the league" discussion until sidelined by injury this year. Let's not decide on the success of Meyers' career after 69 NBA games...

And his name is Meyers Leonard, not Leonard Myers.

He's got to do more then dunk on 37 year old point guards who can't jump very high. Meyers Leonard will need some statement games to add to his arsenal. 5 double doubles (or close to it) would be a great starting point for Meyers next season.

Leonard is miles ahead of most big men at his age on offense. It is his defense that needs the improvement, the problem is that Stotts does not teach defense, never has and never will. Leonard will be a better than average center in the league someday but it will take the right coaching to get him there. I don't see it happening in Portland under the current situation.

@benh i think it can happen under stotts he just needs to get the right assistance's and im sure lopez will help him alot because he's the complete opposite of leonard and i agree that little hook he does is legit and i think sooner or later he'll be able to actually shoot 3's most of his problems on D are bonehead things which comes with his maturity(hopefully)

Like I said before, we drafted Leonard with potential in mind. The guy has size and bulk but we brought him in knowing that he was underdeveloped. Give him some time and then judge his performance.

He looked like the best Blazer on the court a week or so back when the team was practicing in Tualatin I thought?

The heck with Vanilla Gorilla Pryzbilla, they need to put Brian Grant on the coaching staff.

He shouldnt be allowed to shoot a 3 in a game until he has secured a double double.

I, too, was hoping to see a little more growth with Leonard in the summer league games too, but my glass is still half full. Give him a little more time to get used to everything, and I think he will be pretty good.

And yes, the subject line of this post is driving me nuts. Meyers Leonard. Meyers. Leonard. Oy vey.

leonard looked good tonight i hope gets the back tap down seen him do it in this last game and that corner three is deadly i think they were trying to hide it till the season started but they were trying to comeback and they were going to him in the corner(reminded me of a 7'0'' shane battier)

Seems to echo what's being said here.

I can never get links to post correctly.  He got a D+ & Barton got a C grade.     ESPN, True Hoop, The Strip, Day 6

"Meyers attempted three 3s. Technically, that shot is in his range, and he did hit one of them, but with every needless jumpshot Leonard lets the questions about his game linger. With a year of seasoning, 7-footers with his speed and athleticism ought to be showing signs of fluency in the NBA game. But Meyers still seems to be reading the court like a transfer student"

It's kind of funny because I see Meyers take a 3 and I think "not a great shot but it could go."

Will Barton takes a 3 and I think "WHYYYYYYYY?!!!"

Kinda odd when you'd rather have your center taking 3's than your SHOOTING guard.

I called him Leonard Meyers when we drafted him

He's been called Miles Leonard, Leonard Meyers, Meyers Lillard, and Miles Lillard...

Someone out there probably even called him Damian Leonard, but I think fans on this board that want to be taken seriously should at least fact-check our own players names before posting about them. I don't even care about spelling.
