Barring any deals, it seems our roster us set for next season but I have a proposition to put out there. If I am correct, we still own JJ's bird rights to sign him and go over the cap. I think we should sign him to a one year deal so that we can use him as trade bait when the deadline comes. Some teams might want him to put them over the edge while some others might want to deal for his expiring contract. Granted he could become an albatross in the locker room from, get this, not enough minutes from team depth but we could use him for bringing in players, picks, or even a trade exception. I feel like the benefits may be great and this is a move Olshey would do in my opinion.

Portland does not own his Bird Rights.  They did not pick up his QO, and thus are unable to sign him over the cap.

Right. I think since we picked JJ up off waivers from Sacramento, we don't get them unless he had been with the Blazers during his entire contract period (or at least longer than he was). If I understand bird rights correctly....

Traded players (excluding sign-and-trades) still retain their BRs on their 1st contract, but Portland claimed JJ off waivers. BRs belong to the player, not the team, and JJ was never a FA, as it was not his choice to be released or to be picked up off waivers. The player's union and the league went to arbitration in late June of 2012 regaurding Jeremy Lin/JJ/Novac/Billups, to resolve BR issues (whether or not they should be able to keep their full BR/early BRs). JJ was awarded full BRs for the 2012-13 season because the ruling held that he has not yet become a FA and was considered being on his 1st contract.

In JJs case, he was only signed to a 1 year deal. Portland still held his BRs at season's end. However, by not picking up his QO (qualifying offer) off the 1 year contract, even if he doesn't sign an offer sheet with another team, the Blazers can only use either their Room exception or available cap space to re-sign him. JJ is a FA, and although the possibility of a S&T is not very likely with the moves Portland has made to shore up every position, he can still be involved in one so long as Portland doesn't exceed the cap with the returning player/players.  As much as we all loved JJs effort, he's moving on and we wish him great success.

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
