With 8 players gauranteed (Aldridge, Batum, Lillard, Matthews, Leonard, Freeland, Claver, Barton), the Blazers have a salary of $43,240,658.

Earlier in the season, Larry Coons projected the 2013 salary cap to be set around $60 mil. This insider article by Marc Stein has reported that the actually cap will be a disappointing $58,500,000. This would leave Portland with an estimated $15,259,324 in cap room. Subract the $473,604 for each roster spot the team has not met the league minimum roster of 12, and the Blazer have $13,364,908 in avaiable cap space before decisions are made on the following:

Pavlovich has a team option of $1,399,507. (no word yet)

The 10th Pick of the 2013-2014 season has a cap hold of $1,930,600. DRAFTED CJ

Eric Maynor has a cap hold of $5,846,803. WAVED CAP HOLD.

JJ Hickson has a cap hold of $7,600,000. (no word yet)

Blazer will have the $2.5 mil Room exception available. It cannot be combined with available cap space to sign a free agent.

    UPDATE June 29:

To my knowledge Blazers are looking at $12 mil ($11,907,910) in available cap space with 2 decisions pending on Pavlovich and Hickson, as I haven't heard any information regaurding either.

    UPDATE July 1:

Portland currently sits at $8.8 mil in available cap space after the trade for Thomas Robinson becomes official on July 10.

    UPDATE July 4:

Portland has $3.7 mil in available cap after 3 team deal sending Evans to Pelicans, Vaquez to Sac, and C Robin Lopez to Blazer (for nothing). Portland still has their $2.6 mil Room exception.

A S&T with Houston (JJ for Asik) would have been a home run, but more wishful thinking on my part.  Key phrase for this off-season:  Asset Aquisition.  Like it or hate it, I am optimistic the Blazers are in MUCH better shape than last season.  We can only hope Olshey packages some of these assets at some point for players that are needle movers.  Between the draft and FA, I believe the needle has been moved a great deal as the Blazer bench was simply aweful last season.

    Good work there BlazerFanatic.

I agree with you, if the last move gets confirmed, we basically have all or main needs filled.

Sure we all wanted a better center, but its really hard to get one, so we gathered assets to get one later in the season if possible...

Nothing's official till July 10th.  It looks like Olshey played pseudo good samaritan yet again and filled a gaping hole in the Blazer roster.

I never left.  Just haven't posted.  I got a little frustrated with this board with no ability to edit/update posts, incessant critical errors, and getting locked out of my blog with technical issues for a few weeks.  And, of course, the spam of Batum petitions, LA and Paul Allen slights, and Negative Nancies in the absence of good news got really boring.  Winning cures all.  Here's to hoping for a more well rounded team to take the next step.  GO BLAZERS!

@ Blazer Fanatic, gotcha, sorry that u experienced those troubles.  I DEFINITELY hear u on the "Negative Nancies," that's actually why sometimes I comment more v. usual bc I want OUR players that might not b getting a fair shake to know that NOT ALL Blazer fans r so fickle.  I believe in supporting OUR team & EVERY1 has their ups & downs; some of us shouldn't freak out so quickly when a guy hits a rough patch or whatever.

Looks like Lopez trade wasn't exactly free.  Sound like Portland is giving up our 2nd round pick, shot blocking big, Jeff Withey to NO.

Lopez is coming off his best season.  I'm not going to pretend to over sell this, but the fact remains, Portland needed a STARTING center.  Withey may be a great prospect, but with so few assets, the Blazers are making the most of their current and future 2nd round picks it would seem.

When you have nothing at Center but Leonard, Withey is an upgrade to the back up PF.  Certainly most can agree Lopez is an upgrade to both Leonard and Withey.

We can only hope Olshey isn't done.  Blazers still looking at around $3.5-3.7 in cap room and their $2.6 mil Room exception.

although Lopez only averaged 5.6 boards a game last season the 1.6 blocks a game in only 26 minutes is exactly what we need, LMA and Lopez will need to be pulling down those boards with no JJ owning the glass

I like the move personally. Whether L.A. is satisfied about it or now is unimportant at this time. I just asked this question on another post, but for you money analyst,do you think Olshey revisits Chicagos off , L.A. for Taj and Jimmy Butler ?

Looks like we won't have second round picks for the next several years parting with two for Crabbe, two in the Thomas Robinson trade and two more in this trade.

Not that I am really caring about those picks.

As long as we sign Matt Barnes then we will have some actual bench depth.

We have not made any flashy moves but most of them have been solid.

True, and this was a blockbuster deal.  But what I find very encouraging about this aquisition is his 2.8 offensive rebounds per game (a much better indicator of his rebounding ability) and that he played all 82 games averaging 24 minutes per game.  Face it, he played on a horrible team with a perimeter PF in Anderson and Rookie PF in Davis.  I think he's in a great position to take another big step forward (knock on wood), with a better team.

Jan 29th vs LAL - Lopez: 9 Reb (6 offensive) and 16 points vs Howard: (4 reb 24 pts)

March 17th vs Minn - Lopez: 20 pts 11 reb (8 offensive) vs Pekovic: 13 pts 6 reb

    March 22nd vs Grizz - Lopez: 23 pts 10 reb (6 offensive) 4 blk  vs Gasol: 16 pts 6 reb 1 blk

Apr 3rd vs GS - Lopez: 17 pts 7 reb (3 offensive) vs Bogut: 4 pts 9 reb

Apr 12th vs LAC - Lopez: 19 pts 12 reb (8 offensive) vs Jordan 5 pts 3 reb

Don't let the hair fool you.  The Blazers made out pretty well in this deal and got a solid big that will definitely make LA's job easier.

I don't get why they can just add a GD edit button.  It drives me crazy.

When you factor in Lopez's price tag, even with the trade kicker (which Portland pays because his contract was made prior to the new CBA) I think it's a great fit that not only fills a huge hole at center, but will allow Portland enough flexibility to field a respectable bench that was so bad utterly terrible last season.

I wasn't aware of the trade kicker when I made this thread.  If I understand how the trade bonus (kicker) works, his kicker is $1,568,999 and because he has no gauranteed salary the year after this year (and with 2 years left on his current contract), I believe the entire amount is applied to this year.  Meaning the cap hit is $6.69 mil.

It looks like that would leave Portland with $2.1 mil in available cap room, with their Room exception ($2.6 mil) still available, as well as the ability to sign any number of FA to minimum contracts as well as their rookies.

I believe you are refering to the Room exception, which I mentioned.  The cap can only be exceeded with and exception.  Every team gets one.  Teams under the cap at the start of the FA period get the Room exception ($2.6 mil).  Teams over the cap get a full mid-level exception or MLE ($5 mil).  That exception however cannot be combined with available cap space.  So, Portland doesn't have $4.7 to spend on 1 player.  But they can spend 2 mil on 1 or more players and 2.6 mil on one or any number of players.

Harris' contract is non guaranteed unless he makes the team, which we then owe him .89 million.

Blazer's cap is basically all used up after Wright agrees to sign with Portland.  They still have the room exception to sign someone (Oniel/collison?).

Check out this article every1.  What if... Raptors bought Camby out (owed ~$4.5mill/yr. for 2 more years), THEN we sign Camby Cakes for whateva we've left under the cap & THEN use the $2.6mill room exception to sign Will Bynum?
