@ cmeese47, an additional wrinkle, how many drafted @ 19 studs were internationals?

@ cmeese47, +... Jermaine O'neal... that name sounds familiar... didn't he have something to do w/ the Blazers some time ago... ah yes, now I remember.  GREAT example cmeese47, I DEFINITELY commend u on putting him on the list; do u think O'neal helped ur "case?"  I COULD go on & on but I really don't think there is a need.  Thank you cmeese47.

And a lot of those people didn't turn to be stars right away. It takes a while.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

O'Neal got 4 years in Portland but was never played more than 12 minutes a game Batum has never struggled to get playing time. There is a big difference.

As far as your international argument goes there is not a lot of great international players in the NBA. The number is even less when you go back to the 80's and 90's.

Batum has now played 5 full seasons in the NBA plus International ball. Well he might not be a grizzled vet yet he is far from the inexperienced pup you make him out to be. He is also paid like a grizzled vet.

@ cmeese47, maybe the great O'neal didn't play that many min. IN THE BEGINNING bc... he wasn't ready/that good @ that time?  EVENTUALLY, could he handle more burn/handle more responsibility/pressure?  YES!  Was it stupid to give up/give him away?  YES!  U r right, for the most part, Batum has had all the min. he wanted/was ready 4 (especially this last season); I say, so what?  U r right again, "there is a big difference," O'neal's problem eventually was playing time & Batum's problems r w/ aggression & knowing when it's ok/not ok to do this or that (he'll figure these out soon & IF not, see my comments above about torches, pitchforks, blah, blah, blah).

As far as my "argument" about internationals, THAT IS EXACTLY my point; NOT many BUT were there some greats?  YOU bet!  Think IF somehow we could've had Sabonis in his prime?  Not all internationals will suck & they all won't b the greatest players in the world either BUT... I think we've a very good player in Nico & he WILL justify his contract this coming season! :)

"...might not be a grizzled vet..." of course not & yet I think you've exaggerated a bit on my supposed making him out to be "...the inexperienced pup...;" his positioning to me is of a guy that knows much of what the NBA is about (not yet all) but still has a few final things to make click AND then @ THAT point he's @ the inchoate stages of grizzling.

The part of Nico's game that is the problem has been in the making for 24 years...not 5.  THAT is not likely to change.  Sell high and buy low, or go bankrupt being sentimental.  Keep the man if he's able to return to pre-injury form but understand that his ceiling has been reached.

Nic is a Bentley with a VW motor.  The Blazer staff is without a mechanic.

Yeah Nic hasnt shown great improvement like many of the other great young players. He was great find at the 25 pick now we gotta unload him imo.

Hey I poseted this on another chain.  If Batum wants to win Now as he claims, under the new CBA he can ask for up to a 40% pay reduction and this this would help the Blazers sign Eric Manor and go after a decent defenisve Center.  If he refuses to do this, Trade him for Assets.

    See the following:

    Check this article out:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7329408/new-items-added-nba-collective-bargaining-agreement

I found this in the new provisions of the CBA:

    Contracts and player salaries

    • A new "renegotiation and extension" provision allows an existing contract to be renegotiated so the player is paid a smaller amount over a longer period, but the player's salary cannot decrease by more than 40 percent. Renegotiations previously could only increase a player's salary.

    Maybe there is hope

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
