Blazers GM Neil Olshey Shut Out Of 2013 Executive Of The Year Voting

    http://www.blazersedge.com/2013/5/9...ear-voting

What is worse, his relacement at the Clippers came in second?  What a slap in the face.

Portland Trail Blazers GM Neil Olshey was not among the 17 executives to receive at least one vote for the 2013 Executive of the Year award. Olshey finished third last year while working for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 2013 award was taken home by Denver Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri. Olshey's replacement with the Clippers, Gary Sacks, finished second, followed by Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey, New York Knicks GM Glen Grunwald and San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford.

Executive of the Year award is voted on by other executives and not media members.

2012-13 NBA Executive Of The Year Voting Results

You forgot Eric Maynor and JJ Hickson and Sasha Pavlovic Siccolo. All signed by Olshey. The bench was young and inexperienced. The team played hard and was not deep enough. Do you think Olshey didn't know this? This was a transition year and we all knew it. What sucks is bashing the process and having really really short term needs without seeing the big picture and the long term goals. Neil Olshey built that Clippers team you seem to love..give the guy some credit. The insults against the Blazers roster and organization are more than played out. It's a broken record at this point. Olshey signed some real gems last season and tried to sign a good center. Guy works hard at his job. Deserves more respect than he's getting here.

I also thought JJ Hickson should have recieved some notice for Most Improved Player. Coaches who don't make the playoffs never get Coach of the Year votes.

I have no issue with Olshey I like to give guy 2-3 years he definitely has to make something happen this year otherwise people will start getting restless but, to me it's no surprise that he didn't get a vote because just like cmeese said the people that he sign earlier in the season didn't make enough of an impact outside of JJ if they did our starters wouldn't of played 40 plus minutes and got wore out and I think that spoke volumes for the voters and the trade for Eric Maynor isn't gonna swing votes his way even though it was a good pickup it was a little too little too late.

Lets get this straight Olshey did not build the Clippers team, Blake Griffin was a gift from Stern and no one would have passed him up. Then Stern once again stepped in and gave CP3 to the Clippers. Those are the main pieces on the roster, the depth on the team was signed this summer Crawford, Barnes, etc.

He helped but he did not build that roster alone.

Again cmeese you just refuse to give credit to Olshey for his accomplishments with the Clippers organization. He did snatch CP3 when the Lakers were not allowed to just like we snatched JJ off waivers. It was a quick move and a good one. He has made some good moves for the Blazers but not raced to the middle as he'd put it, you see he is a patient man and is right now in process. Situation, problem, process, solution. Those are the 4 steps of resolution in business. Neil is on step 3. Complaining is getting hung up on step 2 and really like being stuck in the mud. I'm trying to also stay in step 3 ...the process. Neil has my support. He's a smart businessman. Having an executive of the year  trophy on his desk is probably the last of his concerns.

    I like Olshey

He could have got Hickson for a longer deal last offseason. Maynor was a good pickup. I think he could have bolstered the bench this season and got our young players some playoff experience. Did a lot of good moves, some could have been better. I still feel this team is set for years of mediocrity, unless we pick up another core player or  if someone improves GREATLY.

He is a decent GM, This offseason is a big one for the Blazers. Im anxious to see how he takes it on

No matter how good you are as an executive, some things are out of your control. Injuries, team chemistry, locker room harmony, there are so many things outside the possibilities you see on paper. I like Olshey's transparency when it comes to speaking clearly about the vision of the organization moving ahead. It's still unfolding. That shouldn't surprise any fan who's listened to the direction of the front office.

His signing no one wasn't for a lack of trying. Players weren't attracted to Portland at the beginning of the year. That might change next year, but no Blazers GM has had a lot of luck in Free Agency.

Maybe some people here are forgetting that it was his voice on the phone that said, "Damian Lillard, Weber State" on draft night. That buys the guy a lot of credit in my book. And I don't want to hear that anyone would've drafted Dame at 6; a lot of GMs would've gone for Harrison Barnes and I seem to remember Chad Buchanan taking Nolan Smith when every portlander and their dog knew we should've taken Kenneth Faried.

33-49 isn't Olshey's fault. In fact, without him, we might've looked something like Orlando's 20-62.

Well, just saying, Harrison Barnes is pretty amazing. Two years down the line, All Star. Dame will be one next year though.

I'm sure the Bobcats, Wizards, Cavs, and Kings are all happy with their picks. And GS is probably extremely happy with Barnes. But in the backs of all those GMs and scouts minds, they're probably all thinking "damn, why didn't we take a better look at Lillard." And they're in denial if they aren't thinking that.

While I agree with you pickett, I don't think the dubs would have taken him if they could. They had Steph Curry in a PG, and Jarrett Jack as a backup. Cavs had Kyrie, and needed a 2 guard. Kings have every possible combination of guards and guard/forwards and didn't need another guard.

We didn't need a wing player when we picked Oden, but don't you wish we'd taken Durant? I don't think position factors in as much as it does in a fantasy draft.

Hindsight is 20/20. If Oden stayed healthy, he would be a better player than Durant, I truly believe that. That's why he was the right choice.

15 points sure. But I would say around 12-13 rebounds and atleast 3 to 3.5 blocks. Obviously not as good as Durant that was stupid of me, but great none the less. If it was the draft, and we had the information we had then, not knowing he would get injured or anything, without a doubt, Oden.

Whitsitt seriously, he was a joke. You have to take Harry Glickman, since he brought us our only NBA title, or Geoff Petrie and Bucky Buckwalter who led us to 2 NBA Finals.

I don't know Chloe. We had a good team when we lost to dallas, but nobody had any control over how that ended. Once Roy left, we were bound to rebuild.

I'd like to know where you saw "no signs of turning it around"? Lillard and Aldridge are good enough to have rings some day, Nic and Wes are solid and even if they aren't here forever, they are valuable enough to improve our team as trade assets. The same could be said of Barton and Claver. I truly believe we're a starting center, sixth man, and two or three bench role players away from being twice the team we were against Dallas in 2011.

I absolutely agree Pickett! But it is very important what kind of role players they are, we need some more grit and grind, we have the pure talent. But I think if we have enough role players a definite sixth man may not be needed. Something like the Nuggets bench.

Our team did better than I expected. But to me that wad more due to Stotts and how he managed the rotations as well as developing the rookies and STILL managed to win many games.

You don't get a vote for best GM when your team has the worst bench in the league. When that isn't a factor of coaching, than it's a factor of talent. It's Olshey's job to bring in that talent.

With that said, I don't Olshey would have even cast a ballot for himself this year, but not because he believes he did a porous job. I believe Olshey has a mind made for planning and creating a consistent team for years to come; not just building a team that would be in the playoffs this year and than who knows about next year or two years down the road.

To me, this is Olshey's year to be validated on last year's rookies (obviously minus Lillard since we already know he's great) incl. Barton, Leonard, Claver, & Freeland. Those rookies weren't going to become the level of performers we expected them to be just in their first year, each with their own reasoning for why not.

And now that Olshey has an idea of how Stotts runs his system, he can get a better idea of the type of player(s) we need. He also can get a better idea of how/when Aldridge, Batum, and Lillard play their best and what type of team we can build.

Not to mention, if we had gotten Roy Hibbert last offseason, I can guarantee Neil would have gotten at least 1 vote for GM of the Year. This team would have been a serious playoff team with him (IMO).

claver and barton? really guys,i love the blazers but we gotta be realistic, that 2011 was great and we are along way away from that, biggest problem we have is attracting free agents, and I mean who are we gonna get at center? we had a 6th man in crawford,we might have made the playoffs with hibbert, maybe, would be be a serious playoff team,i doubt it.We just really need to step it up bigtime
