It takes a hell of a coach to man a 10 man rotation Stotts is not experienced or demanding enough to pull it off.

I couldn't disagree more, again with the "we're not good enough, we're going to fail" affirmations. Stotts is a heck of a coach in my book. How about a little supportive environment moving forward for a change? You don't know what Stotts can pull off. Why diss him? As for the experience, like I said, he's been coaching for decades. This guy is not a rookie and has earned some respect.

I think we have the numbers in the rotation, we just don't have the right pieces to compete for the full 82 in a season... Adding a few low maintenance guys like Hawes and Ronnie Brewer.

Stotts would welcome a guy like Hawes to his offense because he can spread the floor a little.

If we want a PF to play more in the post we could draft Mason Plumlee. He played there all season and coach K ran a lot of the Duke offense through him. We could trade down from our 10th pick and pick Plumlee up at the 14th or 15th pick. I don't know who has those picks so I haven't thought of who we could get as part of the deal. But a package for the 10th pick and Nolan Smith would be enough to get us a decent return and possibly the 16th pick where Plumlee is likely to go.

Cailin no one wants Smith enough to trade for him he has been terrible since joining the league so while trading down might be an option no one is going to want Babbitt or Smith if they are going to cost them assets.

Utah has the 14 and 21 picks and some Utah fans want to swap their two picks for our 10 so they can pick up Carter Williams or Mccollum

Im not much of a fan of Mason Plumlee. I wouldnt hate to draft him but I think their are better options. My first choice would be Dieng at 10 but some players I like that will go below 10 are: Jammal Franklin, Stephen Adams, Glen Rice Jr,

Plumlee could be cool tho because he would be a nice back up to LA

If Jazz give up 14 and 21 for 10 then we can take Dieng and someone like Franklin which would really help our depth.

But Kanterrrr. He really is great. Jazz have too many big men even with Big Al in FA. I'm not sold on a D League guy. No doubt they can have excellent careers, but we need a legit certified player here. That's why I don't want to give another rookie responsibility.

Well then let's trade for the 14th pick and get Dieng. The 10th pick is looking quite valuable for the Jazz because they need help at SG. MCW and McCollum are pretty much what they are looking for.

I don't think they would ever trade Kanter because they are likely to lose both Milsap and Jefferson so they will keep their young front out guys. So our best bet would be to trade down our 10th pick for the 14th pick and one of their bad contracts.

@ RipCity 14, Kanter is another guy near the top of my list (I've talked about him in the past & posted some elaborate trades to get him ;)  I had ruled him out lately because he's a cheap contract for them (~$4million/yr for 3 years) & the logjam o' bigs u/I've mentioned (along w/ many others in the past); so I figured they'd want to keep him.  BUT... IF it only took giving Jazz our 10th pick (I'd love it IF it only took the 10th ;) & maybe something else minor... PULL THE TRIGGER ON THIS 1 OLSHEY!

@ billyamick47, actually... Kanter's been pretty good & he's gonna get better ;)  He just needs more burn; this is where we can give him all he needs/wants :)

To cmeese47, I DO believe Kanter would b our answer to the center position.

Dieng and Franklin would be an awesome Draft

I think Kanter is decent. If the Jazz can retain Jefferson they will maybe consider a move for Kanter. But I'm not convinced that Kanter is a guy who could help us out defensively. We better off trying to get Hawes via trade and drafting Dieng as a defensive backup. Plumlee would be good to get as a backup for the PF and C spots. He's 6'11 and plays mainly in the post. He would really compliment LA and give us a different option in the half court.

And what is the 'logic', behind firing coach Stotts? (See Siccolo, I can make puns as well). He has done an outstanding job, is probably one of the few coaches who can utilise the offensive talents of ALL our players, and I mean come one. If you can tame the lion that is Will Barton you can pretty much do anything. IMO, Marcin Gortat is JJ Hickson with better D and a lot more money. He's okay, but we an better, for better value.

Some of these comments confirm what ive said all along, and thats while we are all obviously fans of basketball,it doesnt always lend itself to thinking clearly. Firing Stotts makes no sense whatsoever. No team in the NBA had a worse bench than we did and we still managed to end up with a better than expected season. What did you think would happen with a gaggle of kids with no experience ? We'd make the western conference finals ? Please. This isnt going to be a quick fix by any means. How many of you even knew who Lillard was ? I trust Olshey to put us in contention. I also trust Stotts' system to make us more competitive. Kaleb, while titled,or should i say saddled with the handle of Defensive coach, had nothing to do with the outstanding comebacks we made this season. If he did, we wouldnt have had to dig out of so many deficits. It was pride that brought out the best in their competitive nature. One year and some of you are calling for Stotts decapitation ? Give him and Olshey two more years and if at that time we arent a force in the west, than make some changes. Its still too early to tell whether or not he's a bust. He definitely has a better relationship than McMillan did. Our best days are ahead of us. We just cant keep picking apples off the floor, sometimes you have to climb to the top of the tree to get the best fruit. We've got a pretty good blueprint in place, lets play out this hand before we fold prematurely.

i really like the dejaun blair/jermaine oneal idea. both would be cheap and it would be a great backup plan if olshey doesn't get a bigger name at the 5 on draft day. trade the 10 and freeland. tony allen is only making 4 mil, carl landry is making 3-4 mil. both are free agents and both are still in the post season. there's your playoff experienced bench right there.

I think that coach Stotts is really good. He got given a really tough deal to start the season and up until the last month of the season, we were still in playoff contention. I think the "logical" thing to do would be to give him another 2 years and try to surround our core with the right pieces. Our young team needs time to adjust to his offense and that time is not just one year.

I say we sign Daniel Gibson from Cleveland (the kid can stretch the floor), Dorell Wright from Philly (again can stretch the floor and defend really well), and hope JJ Hickson will accept coming off the bench backing LaMarcus Aldridge. Wright and Hickson probably will sign for 4 mil and Gibson will sign for 4.5-5 mil w/ a call from an old college teammate LaMarcus. With the 3 second round picks grab Tim Hardway Jr, James Southerland, and Payton Siva.

Dorell Wright is a horrible defender and streaky shooter. Booby Gibson is the same. JJ is my second favourite player, but he won't come of the bench and will go for way more than 4 mil. Also we need more defenders, and a legit scoring option. Consistency. We already have Matthews, a legendary streak shooter so we need someone who can come in when he isn't doing great.

Problem with giving Stotts 2 more years is if he does not work out then the odds we can keep LA decrease significantly. Of course if we works out then fine. I would say after next season if we are not competing then fire him.

Coming back to the idea that we need an elite center. I don't think we can get one...

I think a rebounding shot blocker is what we need. A guy who can command some attention in the post would be nice, but with LA and his offensive game, we just need a guy to help our defense.

Agreed! It feels like a dominant center is the Flavor of the Month around Rip CIty. For the past 5 years if was getting a point guard and now that we got one, the tastebuds have changed and David Robinson 2.0 is what everyone wants to get their hands on.

Now don't get me wrong, an elite center would be phenomenal but let me point out a few things. 1) There are NO elite centers in the NBA today. There is no Hakeem, Admiral, Ewing, Shaq, Mutombo, or even a prime Alonzo Mourning. Dwight Howard used to be one, but his back injury and attitude issues have brought him down a notch. Cousins has the talent but not the mental makeup. Marc Gasol is the closet thing we got, but back in the 90's he wouldn't even be close to a Top 5 center. 2) The NBA has changed. It's not a guards league with great centers dying off like an endangered species. More and more teams are either using smaller backcourts or playing small upfront with two power forwards. 3) I don't think we have the pieces available (we're not trading Damian and Nic and I doubt you would move Aldridge, because it then causes a hole at the 4) to acquire one of the better centers in the game.

What we need is a guy like Joakim Noah or Larry Sanders who is going to play hard, tough-nosed man-to-man defense in the post, be able to help weak-side, secure defensive rebounds, and not be a complete liability on offense. That's it. The question is how to get someone like that? We're likely not going to find that player in the draft unless we land the No. 1 pick, there doesn't seem to be a player like that in free agency, and teams with those players currently under contract aren't willingly making them available for trades.

What would I do? I'd either play LA at the 5 and sign someone like Paul Millsap or sign a vet like Samuel Dalembert to be a stop-gap until the right option becomes available.

Dhawes, right on the money. I think I said this before, but NBA works in circles. It used to be dominated by big men, so good guard became a commodity. Slowly, it started becoming a guards game, because they didn't have to bang down low, they could sit on the perimeter and shoot, and then after the no handcheck rules, they could go in the paint easier. Soon, because of so many guards, someone will find an elite center, like Shaq, or The Dream, and they will dominate because there aren't any more elite centres, then it will switch back to centres being dominant. In a circle.

Dustin the issue with your argument is LA won't play the five he might fill that spot when the team had to have Luke Babbitt play the 4 but you ask him to call himself a center and watch him throw a fit. LA if he does not want to be called a center fine but he needs to act like Duncan then and at least guards the other teams biggest man while a small center takes the smaller guy. Something that probably would have helped JJ out a lot this year.
