It's a rare thing these days but I'd like to see LaMarcus, Mathews, Batum and Lillard retire at the end of their careers with their jerseys in the rafters next to multiple championship banners. To me, these guys are the untouchables. Anyone else on the roster can be packaged with money or picks to improve the team but these 4 guys are the soul of the Blazers going forward. Of the four, the 3 vets have improved every season. Damian made NBA history as a rookie. Lillard and Aldrige could be hall of famers. Watching the Spurs dismantle the Lakers in 4 games was a clinic in how to build a team. Their ball movement and defense is as good as it gets. I believe we can follow that example in Portland. There's a changing of the guard in the west coming next season and I believe we'll be part of that change.

Exactly. Even I tend to think that all Matthews is good for is shooting threes, and playing tough defence, but that tough defence held Lebron James to 6-16 and he is our locker room leader. That core will go a looooong way.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

I love your enthusiasm guys but I could not disagree more. Keep those 4 as the core and you will end up with zero titles.

Cmeese why do you always want to trade our players?

Because I believe we need to make changes to win a title and that is the ultimate goal for a franchise. I showed how to build a contender without changing our core four but for the most part I think making a deal would make us better down the road.

I believe team chemistry takes roster stability and those are the teams that win championships. Constantly trading your best players is the opposite of that. The Lakers tried it this year and we've all seen how that turned out. Trading for role players is one thing, but trading your core is counterproductive to development. I also believe we are building a contender. I've learned from my own personal experience how team longevity leads to success and second nature decision making. New guys overthink as do rookies. Guys who perform together for long periods of time know exactly what to do and when to do it. It wasn't going to happen this season with so many new pieces unsure of the system and their place in it. Great things take time and there's no quick fix or easy way to avoid taking the time to achieve them

I never said it would be a quick fix but I do not think the core four has NBA title upside.

No way can you win a title having those 4 as your best players. NO WAY

Only way is Batum improves greatly and If Damian continues to improve.

Fans need to stop thinking adding some role players to this core will turn us into title contenders

Yeah Siccolo. By core, we mean that they will be the players we build around. Get Role Players to compliment them.

I think 2 of the 4 can turn us into contender the jury still out on Batum even though some have already made that decision and Matthews seem like a player that you add to a core the glue guy not saying Wes isn't important to our success everyone needs a glue guy and he's ours but, that position can get an upgrade we needs someone who can get their own shot at that position and break down the D and of course play some D, If Batum can become that player we know he can be and LA and Lillard improves I say we are 3/4 in of having a core 4 to compete for a title we just need that guy to take us over the top.

We need much better defense and much more efficient scoring. We take too many jumpers, do not shoot enough free throws and live by the three. That is not how you win a title.

Exactly agree with both of you

We need another needle mover that "their own shot at that position and break down the D and of course play some D"

Also a needle mover that is a center that plays D, rebounds, hustles, make sure no one gets any easy layups on us

Matthews is our Glue Guy, but he is also vital to this team. In the locker room and what not, but he is also our best perimeter defender. What we need is someone who can create his own shot. We only have Lillard, and Batum and Wes can only shoot threes, no mid range (Batum has shown improvement). If we get LA in the post, he can do something but no one else.

Im starting to think that meese is Kobe Bryant. Bwahahahahahaha. I dont subscribe to core anything. I like the San Antonio blueprint. Small market, big talent. No ego's, just ball players.Everybody is a role player. Its just that some people dont know their role. Thats the only way you win Championships. TEAM ! Thats it. No gray area. Play together, play hard.

It also does not hurt that they have probably the best PF/C in league history. They also have the leagues best coach, which helps a lot as well.

If your saying that we take too many jumpers (you're correct), take that up with Terry Stotts, that's the offense he runs.

Mainly because we don't really have anyone who can do much else. I liked how smart we got with trhowing lobs t JJ and Meyers. JJ could finish decently around the rim. Batum needed to be a cutter. That's one thing I will say that I was dissapointed about. He needed to cut more before he was injured. I can understand after he messed up his wrist and shoulder, but not before. Matthews isn't great around the rim. If you look at LA's stats, he took like 600 jumpers from mid range, and so much less from the restricted area. Lillard is good at getting in the paint. Sasha Pavlovic was actually pretty good at the drive and kick. I mean he played very confidently and he was very nice to watch.
