He is entering his prime, but prime only lasts about two-three years. He will still be a valuable asset. No need to trade him.

Those are achievable numbers cmeese for Nic and I do see the concern that Siccolo and RC mention since coach Stotts system really relies on the 3pt shot and one of your best players is in his prime right now, if Nic can take less 3's and get to the foul line more he can get those numbers because there's no excuse that you don't get to the foul line when you shoot over 80 percent that should be mandatory for players. Time is of the essence for this team if this core doesn't improve changes should be made.

How can Batum get to the line though? He doesnt have the dribbling skills or the super speed to just have hard takes to the rack. He also never cuts to the paint like Avery Bradley or Jimmy Butler

Wow La is about to turn 29?!!? YUCK Im losing faith in Batum and Lamarcus more and more lol

    Wait LA is only 27

    He got some years left

Batum on the other hand has a lot to work on

Oh my god wow. Sorry. 27, not 28. Phew. And how can you lose faith in LMA? Batum needs to work on his dribbling badly. Wes Matthews can't dribble either, so that's basically only Lillard in the starting 5.

Well Tim Duncans like 80 and a monster so if I did my math correctly Lamarcus has about 100 years left.

hahahah going on 29 just sounds bad to me

Im not really losing faith in LA he is great but just Im not sure how much longer he can keep up his production of 20pts 8 rebs.

If you take out LAs production from this team, we  are terrible

I hope Lamarcus can keep up this play or similar for another 3-4 years.

We have to build a foundation of at least 3 great players then surround them with good role players

Damian and Lamarcus are really good

Nic is in the middle of good role player and great player.

Im not sure he can be a great player, his skill set is made for a really good role player and complimentary guy. If we can find a great SG then Batum will be an awesome piece to the Blazers.

But with his contract and our roster we cant afford him to not be a great player I think.

That was a pretty childish response. I was just saying that I personally don't need an apology or want one. I didn't even get into any of my personal reasons why I was offended, because I actually do have thick skin. I'm not out here to make him or you seem terrible for what you said, as I said in my post, it was just food for thought.

btw I agree cmeese it's not a huge deal, not nearly as big of a deal as plenty of other things I have heard or read on this website's discussions. But my point was the ripple affect. One statement like that isn't by itself really that bad, no. But IMO it does increase the likelihood that more people feel free and open to share whatever negative thoughts they have about a specific type of person, culture, or ethnicity. In itself, I personally think it is not okay to say something like that, but that's just my own moral code.

Nothing I said in that post was personal in that I was hurt, literally not a thing. So I don't get how I am over-sensitive? Because I made a statement in which I was just giving my thoughts which happened to go against yours? I was actually coming from a pretty objective viewpoint. But thanks for the dig bud.

As for the ACTUAL topic.. My heart tells me Batum can be great. But if I were just looking at this situation without my gut feeling, allll brainwork here.. I would say that it was a mistake signing Batum to the contract that we have him for.

This really only has to do with the fact that I really don't believe any team, in any sport, should pay somebody based on their potential. It should be based on what they've given us so far. I've seen time and time again teams paying players in that manner, and it ending up screwing the team up for years. I'm sure there's instances where that has work well for a team, but if I were a GM I would avoid doing that as much as I could.

You can pay for potential in baseball because the deals are long and usually leave players well under market value once they become stars that does not work in the NBA.

Knorton I have no problem on what you wrote I actually agree with what you wrote about the ripple effect of people comments and maybe I chose the wrong word I meant to say some are more sensitive than others and I have no problem with that, like you I have thick skin as well I just don't like people talking sideways if someone has a problem with what I wrote let me know I'm a reasonable person if I'm wrong about something I'll apologize I'm not one of those people who forces people to agree with my thinking or agree with how I feel about things because people have different experiences with things than I do and see things differently than I do just because I don't agree with the things people say don't give me a right to disrespect them so if anyone felt disrespected with the things I said I apologize because life is too short to be fighting online with others I just want to have reasonable conversations about my favorite team and it's players.

Maybe I should exit stage left and Knorton I know you don't want no apologizes but I apologize if I disrespected you in anyway.

I think he will because I like the guy and he has potential, but if speaking realistically, I'd say 50-50. He will without a doubt become a solid starter and a key component to our team.

True Cmeese, but I hate how the MLB works, it's awful.. Unless you're a Yanks fan. I've never been a big fan of baseball but I don't get how people just want to keep it the way it is "because it's been that way since the beginning."

No problem CarlJ, I'm sure you didn't mean it that way but that's how it came off. No offence taken, no shots fired back at you just re-explaining my mindset if it wasn't clear. Like I said, I don't need an apology, but I appreciate it.

Batum though man, guy really needs to take that next step. If it's not this year then I can pretty much assure everyone that he won't ever live up to the contract, which frankly is the only reason why I care so much if he does or doesn't become great. If we had paid him even 2/3 of what we're paying him now, then I don't even think this board would exist. OR at least be as talked about.

Agreed Knorton, if Kahn had not stuck us with this god awful contract, you are right this board would not exist.  But's lets rememeber when Batum signed it, he knew that he was going to have to step up and play.  Instead we are still waiting on him to live up to his potential after his fifth year in the league.

I do not see him worth $11m per year and if the Blazers were smart, trade him to a team that is desparate for a SF and get some good quality assets in return that can help our bench.  Put them team in LA and Damians hands (not like last summer LA & Batums hands).  He has value now, so lets use it.  The use the Cap space to get a strong defensive center and lets move on.

When you consider the young players in league performing better then batum, its hard to be ok with 11mil,especially after all the drama of last offseason, batum was acting like stephan marbury.and believe you me,he is no MARBURY.lol

Does Batum really have trade value though?  After talking to Kevin Pelton, Larry Coon, and even John Hollinger, I would argue that he does not. All three men insisted that Batum could not land Tobias Harris, or Jimmy Butler by himself. Arguing that Harris and Butler's contracts make them much more valuable trade pieces than Batum at this time. Furthermore, each suggested and rightfully so that very few teams in the NBA actually have a need for a SF.

Basically teams that need a SF include Lakers, Pelicans, Hawks, Kings, Wizards, and Cavs.

The Lakers have zero assets we want that would even be in consideration for Batum. The Pelicans might be willing to deal for Eric Gordon but his knee injury and attitude makes that a risky proposition. The Hawks will have very few trade pieces left once free agency starts. The Kings would likely consider a Tyreke Evans for Batum trade. While the Wizards and Cavs will likely fill that need via the draft with the Cavs taking Porter and the Wizards likely taking Shabazz Muhammad or Anthony Bennett. That does not leave a lot of room to move Batum for pieces that could make the team better down the road.

The same issue takes effect then plus he will also be shopped against guys like Deng and Granger who are as good if not better and have expiring contracts. Like it or not I think we are stuck with him.
